Yarennoka News: Gesias “JZ Calvan” Calvancante and Shinya Aoki Off
By CagE | December 23, 2007

Sherdog has confirmed that American Top Team fighter JZ Calvancante will not be able to fight Shinya Aoki on New Years Eve’s Yarennoka show, due to recent surgeries on his knee and nose in Brazil.
Strange thing is that JZ Calvancante seemed ready to fight on an interview conducted by Sherdog three days ago. Also sources at American Top Team in Florida, have said Calvancante has not been training for the fight.
It is uncertain if Aoki will fight a replacement on NYE or be scratched off the card altogether.
The Calvancante vs. Aoki fight would have been the best match-up on the Yarennoka card. Aoki has been tearing trough opponents with his multicolored spandex and Gogoplata Submissions, as he looked to continue his eight fight win streak on NYE.
JZ Calvancante (14-1) has won the K-1 Grand Prix Tournament two years in a row, making him one of the top lightweights in the sport.

What the hell. I’ve been looking everywhere for an explaination and there isn’t any. Why did Calvan pull out of this fight? Robert might be right, he might be hiding from a real fight in Aoki. I have HDNet now and this was going to be the fight of the night for me. It sucks they pulled this from the fight card.

this was definetly a fight i was looking forward to seeing. This fight would be a very crapy fight to the average MMA fan but if u know actually know who is who then u know these fighters are at the top of the division. They are ver highly skilled fighters. Aoki is so great on the ground and JZ is just a great fighter. Its a shame this fight isnt going to happen.

I don’t know what channel HDNet is on. I’m a broke college student so I can barely afford basic cable. I usually catch the replays of the WEC on here so maybe those will make it on the web too.
