Will This Be Alistair Overeems Defense? Michael Schiavello Chimes In On Two Reasons Why ‘The Demolition Man’ Shouldn’t Be Suspended

Last night on HDNet’s ‘Inside MMA’ broadcast, Michael Schiavello put up a surprising defense of Alistair Overeem’s recent drug test failure.

According to Schiavello:

“I just wanna chime in here on a couple things that have been playing on my mind, the last week or so, since the news of Alistair (Overeem) broke. Alistair doesn’t have a license with the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), so how are they testing him in the first place when he doesn’t have a license with them? By what jurisdiction are they testing him? And ‘B,’ everyone seems to be hanging Alistair out to dry. They’ve been nailing him to the cross and crucifying him, but it’s still two months away from his fight. You know, he hasn’t technically cheated. Because, unless he pisses hot on the fight night, how could he possibly have cheated? There’s still an opportunity he can get from the 14:1 down to the allowed 6:1 level by fight time. But we’re calling him out as a cheat, two months out from a fight?”

So his defense is that Overeem was 1) wrongfully tested because he’s not licensed by the NSAC, and 2)unless he ‘pisses hot’ on fight night he hasn’t technically cheated yet.

Hmm, anyone agree with his comments?

  1. J Aranda says:

    Read NAC 467.850 section 5:

An unarmed combatant shall submit to a urinalysis or chemical test if the Commission or a representative of the Commission directs him or her to do so.

In addition to this, Overeem was already in trouble for being late on other testing and agreed to submit 3 random samples when requested by the NSAC.

  2. Ron Pauly says:

Schiavello was playing devils advocate on this issue. Overeem was given a conditional license to fight Brock and was required to take additional test as part of that license.

  3. G.B.Hamerick says:

Overeem is done start lokking for a fight in dream or pride cause you are done in UFC

  4. I don't know what he's appealing this case for. What could he possible say that will change their minds.

  5. You never know, a good lawyer may find a loophole for him – remember that Dana has every intrest that the JDS UBEREEM fight happens…
