And yet u have his fighters and champs in the audience. I understand that they r fans NL . It's just Cool that the other fighters support coming out and checking out the fights. I just would love to see if they could just go to other orgs. and fight other fighters.

Scooby, if I had to guess, they were just checking it out. When I went to the primetime event, there were quite a few UFC guys there - including the likes of Dante Rivera. I think a lot of fighters are just fans too.

i agree that the primetime show wasnt that good. i think affliction will get fighters by big paydays and nonexclusive contracts. they will partner with other organizations. you have donald trump involved now and that guy is pretty savy in business.

i know not many people watched the shoelite tonight but i really liked all of the fights. ninja and kj noons looked better than ever. diaz stirred up some tension like always and almost got in a fight when the show was wrapping.

I agree with all points in this discussion. But lets face it...competition is good. Not only for the companies, but for the fighters and fans too. By branching out, MMA is reaching many more viewers and creating many more enthusiasts than ever thought possible.

With many companies paleing in comparison to the UFC, it makes us appreciate and respect the entire aura surrounding a UFC event whether it be Ultimate Fight Nite, UFC Unleashed, UFC All Access, or a main card event. The UFC has set the standard to which all organizations will be measured.

With that being said....I am in full support of another PROFESSIONAL fight organization entering the limelight (Not the crappy and WWF like show I saw EliteXC put on). Couture left the UFC not only because Dana could not secure a contract with Fedor, but because he was trying to increase fighters rights and salaries. As a result, he and his clothing brand (which is partnered with Affliction) were both banned for competing and cornering in the UFC and the WEC. Why would Dana be such a fool and why is he scared of a single man, his Extreme Couture Nation, and a clothing manufacturer?

What he (Dana) has done is pee in his own cheerios! He and Zuffa are trying not only to remain #1 in respected MMA, but monopolize whatever they can corral. Affliction has put together one of the best cards that I have ever seen (and I don't care that some are past their prime....they are legends, former champs, and just all out great fighters). And in addition, Affliction has uped the slaries and has a less than lethal contract that allows the fighters some freedom that they were seeking to compete in other venues. Barnett stated that he would never fight in the UFC, Fedor would not sign with the UFC, Silvia, Lawler, and Arlovski left the UFC...doesn't this make it seems as an alternative PROFESSIONAL MMA LEAGUE is needed?

My only concerns are these....

1. Can Affliction follow up such a great 1st show?
Will they sign the Diaz boys and possibly Jeff
    Monson? Only time will tell

2. Why is Dana finally make some kind of historic statement regarding fighters under contract in the UFC?
Is Zuffa feeling the heat from a company that
is willing to TAKE CARE of their fighters?

Can't wait to see where all of this goes for ALL of MMA's fans!

I hope the UFC stays alive and well because I like their shows. I don't know what they are going to announce but I hope its something good. I want other companies to have success but the UFC is my favorite production.

True, look at WWF when WCW came up. Turner had the money to compete and beat WWF there for a while.

i'm in business school and i have to read a lot of case studies. a lot of times a company will dominate and get huge profits. then when competition comes up they get big headed and think people wont want anything but what they offer. then sooner or later that other rising company gets part or even majority of the market.

point is, the best thing for dana and the ufc to do is respect these emerging companies as a threat and work to get better. but right now i dont see the ufc getting better or making changes. they are doing business as usual with their shows and events. but we'll see what their big announcement is.

by the way affliciton is backed by a profitable clothing company and donald trump. so now they have some pretty big pockets to keep these big shows comming until they get a big fan base.
