When the gunfire stops and the dust settles, we can hope at the very least the fighters will get better contracts in the future and we wont have to see this kind of nonsense anymore.

I agree that new fighters should have to work their way up to making enough money to train full time. But in my mind, I would think that if someone fights for the UFC, especially in a PPV event, they should get a minimum of 10 grand. If they aren't worth 10 grand to the UFC, then they probably should be fighting somewhere else until they earn their way into the big leagues.

I can't believe there can't be a consensus between the UFC and Couture. I know that if they sit down and talk some more it will be better than putting the effort to get a law suit put together.

if you watch inside mma with bas rutten, he makes it a very clear point in the end that fighters that are new to the game don't deserve the big bucks. rutten says they need to be working those 2 side jobs, in addition to train... and as they get better and prove themselves, or get to the level of rampage jackson or liddel, only then do they deserve to earn big money. rutten said that he himself was working 2 side jobs while coming up in pancrase, and quit those jobs as he got closer to becoming champion. and i agree with rutten. everyone compares MMA to boxing, but the way they pay is NOT the same for many reasons. first, boxing champions may make millions per fight, but a big chunk of that money goes to his promoter and then the trainer. so in the end, they don't get millions. secondly, boxing champions rarely get bought for promotions, except for well known faces like oscar de la hoya or mike tyson. in the UFC, almost anyone that is somewhat known has some promotion. serra and franklin each both have $100,000 per year promo contracts with xyience; so do the rest of the TUF winners. andre arlovski has ~7 companies promoting him, and he isn't a HW champion right now. plus UFC fighters don't have promoters. what they get paid is what they get paid, minus the tax.

Business sense is business sense, indeed, and Randy may in fact have been in breach of his contract, given I don't know any more of the details of said contract than anyone else who didn't read or sign it. The fact remains, he is a huge part of what the UFC has become and is loved and respected by millions of fans and rightfully so as he is the epitomy of what all fighters aspire to be with a drive and spirit that anyone could admire. These fighters still do not get paid the way that pro boxers do and the money that Zuffa makes would make don king seem a pauper. that being said, nothing Randy could say or do could ever make them seem as small or petty in the eyes of the fans as thay did to themselves when they decided to sue such a beloved champion for an amount of money that is absolutely nothing to them in comparison to what he generated for them for so many years. Right or wrong they would have been better served to take the high road.... p.s. Fedor won't sign because he knows what I know, Randy is as intelligent and studious as he is hard working and will dominate him like everyone else in the heavyweight division-even at 47, better just wait 'til he vacates the belt !

Randy made some things up and it has harmed the UFC as evidenced by the misguided beliefs in some of these comments. He was definitely promoting a fight with Fedor that isn't UFC related. Now he is working for and promoting the IFL. Randy messed up and needs to offer an apology. Comments like "give the man a break" and "he only has two fights left" are contradictory and show a total lack of "business for profit" sense. The UFC offered him a contract and a title shot because they wanted the final fights to be in the UFC. He smelled more money somewhere else after taking their deal, he should have offered to buy out the contract rather than rip them off and make false statements to the press.

Yes Randy backed out of a contract and is in the wrong, but Zuffa could cut a man some slack who maybe has only one or two more fights left in him and has done so much to be an outstanding role model for the sport. For a man who has only one or two more fights left why not let him go and fight Fedor, why deprive all the fans of such a monumental fight?

P.S. I think Fedor was protecting his record by not signing with the UFC...........Randy by TKO.
