UFC Fighter Melvin Guillard Arrested on Drug Probation Violation

By CagE | September 15, 2008

After Melvins Guillards sudden replacement by Shannon Gugerty to face Spencer Fisher at UFC 90, questions arose to the reason for the quick replacement. According to Sherdog, Melvin Guillard was arrested on Sept. 13th in Houston for apparently violating his probation on 2007 drug charges.

The 25-year-old New Orleans native is in custody at the Harris County jail in Houston, the deputy said last Thursday, and will be released to a drug treatment facility as soon as space becomes available per the terms of his recently amended probation.

Details of the violation were not readily available.

Guillard was suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for testing positive for cocaine following his disappointing loss to Joe ‘Daddy’ Stevenson at UFC Fight Night 9 back in 2007.

Following a rash of loses in the CAGE this setback doesn’t help Guillards chances of staying on the UFC’s payroll.

It’s to bad he’s having these problems…he can be a very exciting fighter at times and very explosive too. Hope he can get his problems behind him and concentrate on his fighting career.

Guillard is a fucking idiot with a horrible attitude, I liked nothing more then when No Love choked him out and gave him the suck it to the back of his head. I just think this guy is just like Crazy Horse. Both can be explosive but lack skill in certain aspects of the game and dont care to work on them.

agreed, seems like everyday one of the new gaurd MMA fighters is doing something fucking stupid. It makes me feel bad for guys who have done this there whole life and have tried there best to make MMA a legitimate sport. And all people ever see is the failed drug tests and stupid shit (see jesse taylor, war machine, chris leben).

Mostly, he was fast and talked A LOT of shit. Hasn’t been backing it up recently though. Steve and Steveo, I agree with both of you. They may as well cut him too, he hasn’t been winning and he gets busted twice for drugs. I do think that Leben’s case was a little different though.

sorry, just re-read the article. He wasn’t busted the second time for drugs.

he had to be busted on drugs because it says he’s being released to a rehab facility. dude needs it. he’s throwing all of his opportunities away.
