UFC 99: Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic vs Mustapha Al-Turk

By CagE | May 18, 2009

mirko cro cop

Mirko Cro Cop’s Official Blog:

So we have some big news …. I decided to fight in the UFC again, because of the stronger competition in the heavyweight division. My next opponent will be Mustapha Al-Turk.

I didn’t do well in my first three appearances – I wasn’t myself. By returning to the cage I want to prove that I can still fight at highest level, no matter when or where.

Once considered the worlds most dangerous head kicker, Mirko Cro Cop announces to the world that he back in the UFC and will take on heavyweight Mustapha Al-Turk.

Months back, Cro Cop announced he would be back in the UFC to finish his contract, but the rumors quickly extinguished as the UFC 99 fight card came together.

Al-Turk is coming off a first round loss to Cheick Kongo in his debut at UFC 92.

No official announcement has been made, Al-Turk is listed as talking on Todd Duffee on the preliminary card of UFC 99.

“I decided to fight in the UFC again, because of the stronger competition in the heavyweight division.”

Anyway, the way he fought HMC in his last fight, I don’t have high hopes for Cro Cop regaining his old form.

If Cro Cop “wasn’t himself” for the three fights in UFC, then what was he, and why? If he wasn’t himself for the three UFC fights and two DREAM fights, does he think he’ll be back to being himself, whatever that means, in this fight against this stiff UFC competition?

I bet he’d be back to being himself if he actually used both hands and both feet in his striking.

    Let me help translate…from…

“So we have some big news …. I decided to fight in the UFC again, because …blah blah blah….no matter when or where.”

    …to…

“I am a desperate fighter, who’s on the downside of my career and I’ll do anything I can to get as much money as I can before I go back to being a Cop full-time back in the eastern block. Please let me fight another fighter on the down-side of his career (Al-Turk) because that’s about all I can have a chance to beat nowadays after Baby Bam Bam Rubble (Gonzaga) kicked me upside the head and knocked me right the ƒü¢& out.”

lol TJ if Kongo can take down crocop what makes u think lesnar couldnt do the same the first leg kick? i think cro cop in his prime could give lesnar some bug problems but lesnars saize and youth would be too much for him today. i would still like to see CC vs Randy tho.

Cro Cop has shown he has almost no takedown defense while being in the UFC. Lesnar would take him down after Cro Cop threw a kick and Lesnar would lay on him flailing away like an idiot doing little damage but somehow catches him once and cuts cro cop. Then they would get stood up and Lesnar would take him down again and again. Cro Cop would have to ko lesnar going for a takedwon to win IMO. Or lesnar would have to gas and then get hit.

Man it’s good to see Cro Cop back. And man do I hate Kongo, all he does is hit dudes in the nuts and lean on them into the fence, I want to see Nog or Mir break his arm. Anyway, I’m going to use the Shogun example for Cro Cop. They were both having bad knee injuries repaired during their down times.

I think CC with return with a bang, as well as Shogun. CC should play it safe if he beats Al-Turk and try to get a fight with Hardonk or Herring, just to make sure he is back and ready to take on top comp. Maybe then get a rematch with Gonzaga?

I think cro cop should cut down to light heavyweight, wand v cro cop III would be interesting.

Maybe the weight cut is what cro cop needs to compensate for his recent rustiness, it’s admirable that he is the small man in the heavyweight division but maybe LH is his last oppurtunity to really shine. I hope al turk get’s headkicked, cro cop fans, an cro cop himself need that badly.
