UFC 90: Ricardo Almeida vs. Matt Horwich

The Ultimate Fighting Championships has officially announced former IFL middleweight champion Matt Horwich (23-10-1) will take on BJJ black belt Ricardo Almeida (9-3) at UFC 90 on Oct. 25th from the Allstate Arena in Chicago, IL.

This will be Horwich’s debut fight with the UFC. His contract was picked up as part of the UFC’s purchase of the IFL last month.

Team Quest fighter Matt Horwich is coming off a unsuccessful title defense loss to Ryan McGivern at the IFL’s Las Vegas show earlier this year.

Almeida most recently losed a split decision to Patrick Cote at UFC 86. A win over cote would have secured Almeida a title shot against Anderson Silva.

Comments

  1. the ufc has the ifl middle weight champ thats cool time to see what he really has

  2. After seeing Almeida fight welli cant say fight but run away and slide on his butt to try and get Cote to wrestle with him I have no reason to watch him again. No matter how much he wins he will never be a true contender b/c he makes tito oriz look 3-dimensional. It is pathetic. I hope the smelly horwhich whips his ass.

  3. Steve, was that fight really that bad? I'm gonna have to look that up. And out of curiousity, out of all the words you could have used, you go with smelly? lol

  4. horowich already lost his mw title in his last fight, i like matt and think he will do ok in the ufc but this is a tough first fight for him, he loves the ground game but almieda is to good there for him so i don't think he will win this one.

  5. Hey there Ryan – The smelly comment comes from multiple MMA fighters and training partners complaining that Mat Horowich does not shower regularly. Even Bas on the MMA show stated that he smells horrible. Go figure!

  6. dane drebin says:

he doesnt look like he would smell like roses thats for sure lol

  7. jetrain9000 says:

Steve, you obviously have no clue what Ricardo has accomplished as an MMA fighter. I would suggest that you educate yourself prior to opening your mouth about things you don't know about. If you don't like him as a fighter you are entitled. But you need to get used to seeing him as he's only 1/2 way through his 6 fight contact.

  8. jetrain9000 says:

Not too mention it was Ricardo Arona who fought Tito.
