UFC 90 Press Confrence News and Notes

Anderson Silva coach The ultimate fighter 8

The guys over at MMARated managed to get some interesting notes at the UFC 90 press conference in Chicago.

* Dana White announced that Mike Swick will be added to the card but stopped short at saying who his opponent will be.

* Chicago is the UFC’s #1 market for pay-per-view revenue.

* When all is said and done, UFC 90 will be the highest-grossing event in the 28-year history of the Allstate Arena, smashing Wrestlemania 22′s record of 2.4 million dollars.

* As of Noon today, UFC 90′s gate has already reached the two million dollar mark.

* White said Anderson Silva could potentially move up to light heavyweight again if he defeats Patrick Cote on October 25th.

* Furthermore, he even hinted at a possible GSP vs. Silva bout at an undetermined catch weight.

* The winner of the Diego Sanchez vs. Thiago Alves bout will receive a welterweight title shot.

* Speaking of Alves, he vowed to have no more issues making weight at 170 lbs.

It sounds like Chicago will be a hotbed for the UFC. Makes sense with a mix of mid-west wrestling fans and a huge Hispanic population who are generally big boxing fans and Anderson Silva, the UFC is primed to make UFC 90 a record breaking success.

Comments

  1. looks like everyone wants a piece of GSP these days. first, BJ penn. and now, anderson silva.

  2. some of the heavyweights that have trained with gsp have stated in interviews that he can take anyone down at will. this would be an interesting fight to see.

  3. Oswald Gobblecock says:

Derek, I don't think it's Silva who wants to fight GSP cause I'm sure he thinks he can beat him with much trouble. GSP and BJ is a much closer match up. Silva will tear ass at 205. I'd rather see him fight bigger guys like Chuck, Rampage and Wandy.

Patrick Cote gettin a shot at the belt after that split decision is a joke. Silva is going to kill him! If Cote gets graced by God and somehow beats Silva it would be a much bigger upset then Serra beating GSP.

  4. Oswald Gobblecock says:

    beat him *without* much trouble

  5. Yeah… I can't see any competition for Silva at 185. After he walked through Dan Henderson that was it… It'd be better to fight at 205 and defend his title when a worthy aponent is available (i.e someone who has dominated the other top MW's)

The only possible fights at 185 (in the future) would be Bisping (if he continues to improve), Maybe a rematch with Hendo and Okami…. or even Lee Murry (In Morroco!)…. unless anyone else drops from 205 (Rashad is a possibility)

    In the short term though – I'd much rather see Anderson fight 205;

    - Chuck

    - Rampage

    - Shogun

    - Griffin

    - Wandi/Thiago/Mancida etc etc….

    Cool!
