UFC 89: Keith Jardine vs. Brandon Vera Likely

keith jardine

UFC light heavyweight contender Keith Jardine (13-4-1) will likely take on Brandon “The Truth” Vera (9-2) at UFC 89 slated for October 18 from the NIA in Birmingham, England. Jardine announced the news today on an Albuquerque radio show, although its unclear to which one.

Jardine will look to get back on the winning track since losing to Wanderlei Silva at UFC 84. The Dean of Mean will have no easy task taking on the new light heavyweight Brandon Vera.

Vera will look to continue his undefeated record, since debuting at light heavyweight at UFC Fight Night 14 against Reese Andy.

  1. There are so many good matchups in Light HW right now, I really like this one.

  2. if vera comes in great form he should have a good night,if he comes in looking like his last fight he will be in trouble, reese was no threat from striking but jardine will be.

  3. This has potential to be a good fight……. i'm Not much of a fan of either of them…. but this could be a slugfest.

i'll give the edge to Vera, only because of his muay thai !!!! Jardine could pull this off though. NOT TO SURE ….. We'll have to see.

  4. I'm not that big of a fan of Keith's but it feels to me like the UFC is trying to bury him.

He beats Chuck and then instead of going forward he had to fight the guy that lost to Chuck (wandy) AND made practically no money.

Now he's going to fight some guy that on paper will walk right through him.

It's almost as if when he bitched about having to fight Houston Alexander instead of the champ and then getting his ass kicked : It's like they said, "Okay now you're done."

They tried to feed him to chuck, that didn't work.

Okay who's next? Ahh good ol wandy will and DID kill him, next up… VERA!

Next thing you know he's fighting a prelim against some *can* and then off to Elite xc …. anyone?

    Am I off base here?

  5. Miko-i am gonna have to agree with you, i don't think the ufc has any long term plan for keeping jardine. mabey if he gets better and gets in the top 10 LHW….but hes just to goofy to take serious.

  6. ummmm scratch jardine not being a top 10 LHW cus according to Sherdog.com…he is…who would have thunk it…

  7. i do agree thats the usual ufc way of getting rid of someone set them up to fail and say there no good, i have never been a huge fan of his but there giving him guys that on paper will kill him and no easy fight to get back in the hunt.

  8. dane drebin says:

he deserves to be in the top ten he beat chuck and knocked otu the current champ and imo beat bonnar. the guy is top ten for sure. his leg kicks are nasty as fuck. jardine asks for these big fights because if he gets a win it sky rockets him to a title shot

  9. Jardine by way of TKO. Vera seems to have run out of gas recently.

  10. Nate Fury says:

Vera did not impress me at all against Reese Andy. If he does'nt bring his "A" game, Jardine will take care of business.

  11. i think it would be a good match up. i don't think vera has one punch KO power like wanderlei.

  12. Jardine is top 10. Anyone can get one punched just ask Chuck. Jardine beat Chuck and the current champ Forrest.

  13. i like jardine and i think he just had a bad night against a great opponent in wandi. vera i liked at one point but now i think he can finish a conversation better than he can finish a fight.

  14. dane drebin says:

    haha well put kom34

  15. yeah this fight should be jardines. WShat sucks is vera has little power in his hands and wont be able to take advantage of Jardines chin. But Vera does have power in kicks knees and has some ok elbows. But I dont see tis fight goin to the ground and i think as long as jardine sticks and moves he should take this fight.
