UFC 88: Anderson Silva vs. Patrick Cote Likely

anderson silva UFN 14

After that amazing performance by Anderson Silva at UFN 14, it is hard to wonder what is next for this talented fighter. Stay at 185 and clean out the division or move to 205 and have a run at one of the UFC deepest divisions.

When asked about Anderson Silva’s next fight at the UFC Fight Night 14 press conference, UFC President Dana White said:

“Okami’s out of that fight. He broke his hand. If (Silva) fights in September [ UFC 88 ] it’ll be (Patrick) Cote,” stated White at Saturday night’s post-fight press conference at the Palms in Las Vegas.

“(Silva) said he wants to defend his 185-pound title. He said he wants to test the waters at 205. He did (on Saturday night)….He’s going to defend his title again in September and then probably try to take another fight at 205.”

“I think he wants to take his time. I think he wants to stay at 185 and completely clean out that division, go from there.”

  1. I like Patrick Cote, but Silva is way out of his league.

if this fight happens, 1 of 2 things will go down… 1)Cote will get embarrassed and it will play on his confidence in future fights, or 2)Cote will get embarressed and it will make him a better fighter!!! either way Cote is getting thumped!!!!

  2. Oswald Gobblecock says:

Patrick Cote, are you kidding me? He is nowhere near ready!

  3. no it shouldnt be cote iit should be Okim…but whatever silva will win both

  4. dane drebin says:

cote's as ready as he'll ever be lol i dont think he will do very well at all but i dont think okami would do much better. cote's atleast got a punchers chance in both hands

  5. okami is hurt so they need someone and no one is ready for him so what does it matter.i would prefer he rematch with dan but that won't happen for awhile if at all.or if they would go outside the ufc lindland ,cung lee, lawler,or a new mw belfort.they would also probally all lose but i would rather see him fight them than any mw in the ufc.

  6. Oswald Gobblecock says:

I wish Silva wuold just keep fighting at 205. There's no1 at 185 that really has a shot against him right now but there's several good shots for him in the 205 class.

  7. 205lbs fight for Silva in the future:

    Chuck

    Rampage

    Forrest

    Rashad

    185lbs fights for Silva:

    Bisping

    Dan (rematch)

    Okami

    Cote

    Rousimar Palhares.

Not in any particular order. But he says he wants to fight 4 times a year . he can accomplish this in 24 months.

That's if a couple of good fighters don't come out of the dark!! Just my predictions.

  8. i agree with dane that cote is as ready as he will ever be. i think he might last longer than most against silva but i don't really expect cote to win.

  9. I don't see cote winning either. The funny thing is, I think Silva has every tool to do the same thing to the light heavy weight division that he did to the middleweight. As long as he uses them correctly. His striking is too precise and his defense is too melodic. Not to mention, he can handle himself just fine on the ground. I thought Lutter had him. I think that would be an interesting rematch.

  10. Businessman says:

Roy makes some good points. Current UFC fighters int he division don't stand a chance against him…maybe Hendo or Nate could hang with him for a round or two, but eventually, they would get squashed before Round 3. They have to bring in someone from the outside. If Paulo wins his WEC title defense, he should come up to the UFC. He may be a good fight for Silva. Lindland looked terrible this past weekend. Belfort is too inconsistent. Cung Lee and Lawlor would get demolished. They both take too many shots. If they did this against Da Spider, they would be sleeping before they knew what hit them. Rousimar and Maia may have a shot in the future but they need to improve their stand up game. They are masters at BJJ and could submit Silva if it got to the ground but unless they improve their standup, they would get knocked silly before it got there. I think some of the 205 guys should consider coming down to 185 or some of the bigger 170 guys should come up. Ninja or Thiago Silva should come down and Thiago Alves or Kos should come up. I would rather see one of these guys try than Rich Franklin, Okami, Cote, etc. Okami would be lucky to last 30 seconds and having Rich vs Silva III will be worse than Ortiz vs. Shamrock III. The UFC has toi do something to stop him from getting bored. He is as dominant as Jordan and Tiger.

  11. silva needs to fight forrest for the 205 belt… forresrt will get knock out

  12. Filho is friends with Silva thats why he went to the WEC instead of the UFC. You'll probably never see Filho fight Silva.

  13. dane drebin says:

thiago silva is a pretty big 205'er i dont know if he could make 185 but if he could that would be an interesting match but i still think anderson would destroy him.

  14. Elbowz failed to mention anything about more then a couple interesting match ups for Silva at 205. Wand who has trained with him in the past, Shogun who has trained with him and Sokoudjou who is a training partner of Hendo at Team Quest. These are all possible fights with A. Silva. I dont really see him fighting Rashad since rashad is lined up to get KO'd by Chuck at UFC 88. but if he does beat chuck by miracle then yeah he could fight A. Silva. But I would love to see him fight the Axemurderer.

  15. i left out the brazilians in 205 because i don't see him fighting his country mates until no one is left to fight but them!!!

  16. look what cote said..

It's gonna take him 10 straight punches to take me down – I only need one punch to take him down. I'm Patrick Cote, I win against grapplers and I knock strikers out.

yea right cote..anderson will be knocking you out
