they are not cutting lesnar any slack i thought they were guna just throw him up against nobodys for his first few fights but former champion frank mir now the godfather of ground and pound mark coleman maybe they are trying to prove a point that just because you look good on tv and you can wrestle in the wwe doesnt mean your cut out for the ufc

After witnessing the outpouring of love for Mark coleman at UFC 82, i am happy to hear he is back and fighting Lesner. I agree wit Colin, I also thought Lesner would be on an easy road, ala Rampage, but am glad to see that the UFC has become a “Prove It” league where your name doesn’t get you free passes anymore.

  3. roy Says:
    March 3rd, 2008 at 2:36 pm

its sounds like there trying to give him an easy road to me mir seemed like shit recently so they thought it would be an easy fight even though i knew it was a bad match up because of his bjj skills and now coleman who has not looked good in years he is old and even at his best was not a great striker or submission guy witch is what lesnar needs to stay away from and after all that lesnar may still lose to this guy, and josh rampage had a pretty hard road after his first fight it was chuck than dan it could not have been any harder.

  4. Tim Says:
    March 3rd, 2008 at 8:13 pm

Lesnar is young but not inexperienced when it comes to the basics of fighting, think about it in his second fight he put on a hell of a show and beat the hell out of a former UFC champion, given he did not win as he lossed by submission by a rookie mistake he still showed extreme potential in a sport where wrestlers have always proven themselves to be top notch fighters. Give time and more all around trainging Lesnar will be the next big thing. i dont see this fight going any longer than 2 minutes in the first round, i see Lesnar taking it to coleman from the get go, strikeing and working for the take down and just unleashing in half guard on coleman and im predicting that coleman wil either be ko’d or he will submit via punches. Case closed.

  5. Brian Decker Says:
    March 7th, 2008 at 8:56 pm

let kimbo slice fight brocl lesnar and i guanatee brock kicks his ass

  6. BRANDON Says:
    March 8th, 2008 at 1:55 pm

Josh what do u mean rampage has had it easy…? In the UFC he has fought Lidell, Marvin Eastmen, nad Hendo…I don’t see how u could say they have been giving him easy opponents…In fact it’s the exact opposite, ur just an idiot.

  7. colin Says:
    March 11th, 2008 at 12:07 pm

i agree josh is an idiot and i agree with brian that this kimbo hype is a little out of control

  8. onri Says:
    March 11th, 2008 at 2:39 pm

Rampage’s tune up fight was Beatman Eastman which I don’t think was even close to as easy as Crocop had with Eddie Sanchez who just ran away. I don’t like this matchup at all and I think it favors Brock. I really thought that Coleman showed a ton of heart against Fedor and that should have been his farewell fight.

  9. HAWAII Says:
    March 12th, 2008 at 10:29 am

I AGREE WITH YOU ROY I BELIEVE LESNARS FIRST FIGHT AGAINST MIR WASNT A GIVEN BUT MIR DID LOOK LIKE CRAP HIS LAST COUPLE FIGHTS AND MARK COLEMAN HAS BEEN OUT SINCE WHAT 99 HES OLD AND AGAIN NOT A GIVEN BUT I HOPE LESNAR GET A WIN AND AS OF RAMPAGE AGAIN I AGREE AFTER HIS UFC DEBUT AGAINST EASTMAN HE FOUGHT ICEMAN AND THEN HENDO AND NOW HE GOT HIS HANDS FULL WITH FORREST GRIFFIN WHICH I BELIEVE GRIFFIN WILL WIN VIA REAR NAKED CHOKE IN THE FOURTH ROUND

  10. STEVEO Says:
    March 12th, 2008 at 12:35 pm

Lesnar is fun to watch and I will take that over watching Tim (the Slothiac) sliva walk around and try not to wrinkle his knee brace. The heavyweight division needs something and hopefully someday it is Fedor so we can watch him get his ass kicked. I am soooooooooooo tired of hearing about this guy he hasnt won a meaningful fight in like 3 years.

  11. erik Says:
    March 20th, 2008 at 3:14 pm

whoever thinks that brock lesnar is getting an easy road right now is stupid…he’s only had 2 fights and only one of them was in a cage…frank mir is a former champion and just by saying that he is no joke…mark coleman is an olympic wrestler and as everyone knows the godfather of ground and pound…it is going to be a very hard-hitting fight and it’s hard to say who is going to win…i agree that rampage got an easy road to start but has definitely proven himself since

  12. whodini Says:
    March 20th, 2008 at 5:08 pm

hmm? brock va the hammer coleman luv that guy i saw him a few times in a couple of prife fights he still looks good as always…i hope he whoops brocks ass …it will be interesting to watch im looking forward to it

  13. danedrebin Says:
    March 20th, 2008 at 9:45 pm

i agree with u erik mark coleman was the first ufc heavyweight champion he is no push over but i think brock will win this one

  14. onri Says:
    March 20th, 2008 at 10:14 pm

Exactly what I’m thinking guys. Plus, Brock will have about 5 months of training by then so he should look much improved. For a guy that competitive to be coming off a loss, its kind of scary to think how he’s going to look against Coleman.

  15. steveo Says:
    March 23rd, 2008 at 6:09 pm

Well I love to watch lesnar, a physical freak, but I refuse to put someone out of a fight due to age, ask tim slyvia about that. Its should be a good one.

  16. pat G Says:
    March 25th, 2008 at 1:00 pm

steve ur absolutly right….and i think the the ufc is giving lesnar ppl who he could beat but could loose to so its kinda 50-50

  17. Achilles Says:
    March 26th, 2008 at 8:15 am

BROCK has a better chance in this fight than the last one against MIR. FRANK MIR motorcycle crash or not is know for submitting BIGGER STRONGER opponents like TANK ABBOTT and TIM SYLVIA. In MMA jujitsu fighters have historically had the edge over YOUNG wrestlers turned fighters. BJ PENN vs. MATT HUGHES 1 before hughes had ben training bjj for years. Same thing happened to BROCK he dominated MIR then left out his leg easy pickins now he has MARK COLEMAN who has beaten just about everybody who cares how old he is. This is another TRAP fight for LESNER even though it looks like the favorite based on physicality alone. But when it comes to skill and experience LESNAR is the underdog but I think he should win.

  18. roy Says:
    March 26th, 2008 at 8:41 am

coleman was great i have alot of respect for him but he is old and is not randy he has not looked good in years and they made this match thinking lesnar will win, they don’t want lesnar to keep losing and lose some of his markectability.its the perfect match up for him a wrestler whos not a great striker or submission guy.i think coleman has fought the best out there and has the experience so he does have a chance but lesnars age and stregnth should be enough to win it.

  19. RIC Says:
    March 31st, 2008 at 7:22 pm

Lesnar SHOULD win, But he also SHOULD’VE beaten Mir, He had him in a ground and pound assault then postured up and gave ‘ol Franko his leg wrapped up with a thank you note. The person who makes the least mistakes will win this fight (yes mistakes are what wins and loses fights anyway by whatever do you mean ric?) What I mean is theres gonna be alot of Ring Rust and Amature mistakes we’ll see how far this one goes before somebody just leaves their chin out there or somethin.

  20. erik Says:
    April 2nd, 2008 at 8:22 am

Frank Mir will be the Heavyweight champion again…if memory serves me right he didnt lose to anyone he got into a motorcycle accident…he is a very very fast heavyweight and his jiujitsu is phoenominal…Nogiuera is a tough guy and everything but i dont see him fairing out too much against Mir if this fight comes about anytime in the near future

  21. roy Says:
    April 2nd, 2008 at 8:28 am

erik your right he has great bjj but thats it, he has beaten no one other than tim and a inexperienced lesnar, in his other matches before the accident he had trouble beating med level fighters.i think he does match up well with nog enough to give him a good fight but not win and if you put him in there with other top h.w’s he will get destroyed.

  22. RIC Says:
    April 3rd, 2008 at 12:23 pm

NOBODY I REPEAT NOBODY is gonna keep Brock Lesnar on their back. Mark Coleman the godfather of ground and pound but I very seriously doubt that he’s gonna sit on top of Brock Lesnar and pound him out. Brock Lesnar doenst have bad stand up, he droppped Mir in a hurry. I see brock lesnar taking this fight he takes it where he wants it.

  23. RIC Says:
    April 3rd, 2008 at 12:24 pm

**Nobody is gonna keep Brock Lesnar on his back.

  24. derek Says:
    April 3rd, 2008 at 1:15 pm

mark coleman has a pretty good chin. he is also more muscular than frank mir. i think coleman is good test for brock in really assessing where brock’s wresting is at. plus, coleman is super experienced; he has fought fedor twice, not to mention been in many pride wars. i wanted to see brock vs. tim silvia, but i guess that wont happen anymore.

  25. derek Says:
    April 3rd, 2008 at 1:18 pm

roy, that’s what makes good fighters — people that really fight it out with their opponents, but still pull it off. mir is one of those peeps.

  26. roy Says:
    April 3rd, 2008 at 1:40 pm

he seems like a good guy i just think he is a great fighter and would lose to any top h.w. if he proves me wrong than great.

  27. roy Says:
    April 3rd, 2008 at 1:41 pm

not a great fighter i meant

  28. Morey Says:
    April 3rd, 2008 at 3:30 pm

I agree that if you don’t think Mir is a good fighter because he is lazy then I can back that for sure. But I think his skill level is up there with the top heavyweights. If he can keep the muscle and continue to work hard and train conditioning I can see Mir getting a title shot in one or two fights.

  29. roy Says:
    April 3rd, 2008 at 4:07 pm

all i am saying is he is not a great fighter, i think he will get a title shot just because the devision is thining out a bit.go look at his record he has not beaten anyone he had trouble beating mid level fighters vera killed him lesnar alomst did he is a good fighter and the 2nd best bjj h.w. there is i will give him that but he does not have enough to beat any top 5 heavy weight. if he fought vera again it would be the same thing a quick ending for him before the lesnar fight nobody was talking about him like he was a contender so after beating a rookie he is great now.

  30. roy Says:
    April 3rd, 2008 at 4:08 pm

we will see soon, after mcully he won’t get any easy fights so i hope he proves me wrong cause he is a likable guy.

  31. onri Says:
    April 3rd, 2008 at 7:05 pm

I like hearing Mir commentate the WEC fights, he knows his shit. But I’m with Roy on this one. Mir seems like he has great knowledge of the sport but I don’t know if he is a great fighter.

  32. erik Says:
    April 4th, 2008 at 7:52 am

I think that if Brock Lesnar loses to Mark Coleman it will be because of his inexperience…Mark Coleman hasnt fought since October of 06 against Fedor but i think that he will still pull it out and get Lesnar to the ground and then choke him out…out of Coleman’s 15 wins he has 8 of them by submission

  33. roy Says:
    April 4th, 2008 at 9:50 am

good point erik i did not think about coleman as a submission guy, i still think lesnars youth and strength will be enough but if coleman did win it would not surprize me that much he has alot more experience and has fought the best.

  34. Ryan Says:
    April 5th, 2008 at 7:24 am

Josh seemed to forget that Rampage fought for years in Pride. Anyway, Lesnar kind of is getting an oopen invitation just because he was on tv. I remember back when you had to have EXPERIENCE to fight in the UFC, unless you went through TUF, in which case you technically did get experience. Lesnar had 1 mma fight. Lasted like 2 minutes. Otherwise, what made them think he was great enough to fight a former heavyweight champion and one of the 5 hall of famers? Lesnar should have to wait a few years before he gets chances like these. Meanwhile, there are other fighters that deserve to fight his fights.

  35. jon Says:
    April 7th, 2008 at 9:32 am

Coleman will get his ass kicked

  36. bryan Says:
    April 8th, 2008 at 2:14 pm

i think lesnars strength will be a factor in this fight…not saying colemans not game but i think lesnars gonna be in control…im pulling for coleman tho…anybody heard anything on the huerta fight? i heard kenny florian saying he wanted to fight him after the lauzon fight

  37. Wingotti Says:
    April 9th, 2008 at 10:56 am

Piss on the lesnar coleman fight…not good timing for new vs old school battle. I think it should be kimbo vs lesnar so lesnar can have the opportunty to show pure strength and everyone know how hard of a puncher kimbo is. In thus, lesnar may have an opportunity to show his new ground game which if he submits him all the hype will be lesnar can’t handle a puncher like kimbo which will lead to a grudge match between the two. So i csay lesnar vs. kimbo next fight if you want to see a hell of a match. Besides we all have seen what happens when old vs new (gracie/hughes…shamrock/franklin)

  38. erik Says:
    April 9th, 2008 at 11:05 am

but the problem is with both of those fighters….they are just all hype right now with no follow through…kimbo i guess has a little more credibility than lesnar since he won his fight but it was against an old ass tank abott…it sux that dana white cant get people like fedor or kimbo bcuz it would make the UFC that much more interesting to watch

  39. Achilles Says:
    April 9th, 2008 at 11:24 am

WINGOTTI is right about the old vs. new stuff. This is old groungd and pound vs. young ground and puond this is one of those match ups where stregnth and quicknes is the deciding factor of the fight neither of the 2 have great standup or submission COLEMAN has experience but this is not a trap fight for BROCK like the last one was. He was put in a fight that was easy for him to lose exactly the way it happened. This is more of his kind of fight a olt easier this is an older guy with DIMINISHED skills. Who now seems to be the “GRANDFATHER of GROUND and POUND” this is BROCKS fight to lose. He should be fighting KIMBO

  40. bryan Says:
    April 9th, 2008 at 1:06 pm

i watched an interview with dana white and he said he has no interest in signing kimbo…cuz of how sean gannon beat kimbo in a fight and then came to ufc and ended up hospitalized for 2 weeks…he said this and i quote “kimbo slice would get murdered in ufc”…honestly i would love to see dana sign kimbo…i wanna see what hes got…he hasnt fought anybody tough…two no names and a washed up tank abbott…i think heath herring and kimbo would be good…or arlovski and kimbo

  41. Morey Says:
    April 9th, 2008 at 1:21 pm

Even Kimbo isn’t saying that he can beat up everyone, its everyone else that is doing it for him. He says that he likes to get out there and bang and that he is working and becoming an all around fighter. Of course Dana is bashing Kimbo, thats the money maker for Elite. I think Lesnar and Kimbo have potential but we’ll see who can take that to the top of their division.

  42. derek Says:
    April 9th, 2008 at 2:40 pm

at least kimbo is working on it. he hasn’t really been tested yet becaue gary shaw pairs him up with weak chinned strikers. kimbo is starting to look like the houston alexander of UFC and hopefully, will enroll himself a good BJJ school soon, rather camp out under the wing of MilfHunter and his sidekick, Bas.

  43. Achilles Says:
    April 10th, 2008 at 9:05 am

MOREY and BRYAN right. DANA WHITE does BASH anyone who is competition of the UFC. KIMBO doesn’t have the corporate image that most UFC fighters have (college athletes, have regular day jobs, BLAH – BLAH) if KIMBO keeps winning by KO and eventually fights someone good like ANTONIO SILVA, (SILVA should have that main event fight against KIMBO on 5/31) DANA is gonna sign and make it seem like he was cheering for him since day 1.

  44. erik Says:
    April 10th, 2008 at 9:24 am

your right achilles…even though Dana has issues with Couture he still is 100% confident that Randy can in his words “destroy” Fedor

  45. Realwun Says:
    April 10th, 2008 at 9:35 am

I can see that Achilles. Somewhere down the line if Dana signs Kimbo he is going to praise him. I think Silva is too good on the ground for Kimbo right now so they are not going to take the chance. I wish there were playoffs in MMA but right now you just have to watch whatever makes sense to the organizations and their money. Eventually you will see Kimbo fight a top fighter.

  46. dustin Says:
    April 13th, 2008 at 9:18 pm

I think everyone is missing that lesnar was on his way to win that fight against Mir. He had him rocked and the ref stops the fight after one hit to the back of the head. I have never seen that. had the ref not stopped that we would be looking at brock bs one of the top dogs in the heavyweight division

  47. dustin Says:
    April 13th, 2008 at 9:19 pm

lesnar is the next ufc all star

  48. derek Says:
    April 13th, 2008 at 9:24 pm

he definitely is a (not next) ufc star, but he won’t be HW champion anytime soon. big nog would own him. fedor, or even AA, would show lesnar that the MMA is not the same as entertainment wrestling.

  49. STEVEO Says:
    April 15th, 2008 at 10:07 am

all the technique in the world can win you alot of fights, however, Lesnar is a physical freak, not exactly sure what the max weight is but i am fairly certain he flirts with it and there is NO ONE in the UFC or all of MMA that I can see being as strong or stronger than him. It is his strength alone that he can win fights on but it is also his strength that he can get himself into trouble with. Only time will tell if Lesnar is destined for greatness of not and at the rate some of these guys fight it may actually take years.

  50. luke thomas Says:
    April 16th, 2008 at 7:21 am

i am so pleased that chuck liddell got kod by rampage and will be beat by rashard evans i allways felt he was given fighters to match his style ( horn couture ortiz 4 sure tito just about wet his pants 1st time they fought) whereas when he’s fought guys with equal or similar striking prowess has been beaten. it’s a true shame that shogun isen’t gonna fight liddell has he would of absolutly detroyed liddell and anyone if he was 100% which he wasen’t v forrest and anyone who says he was is stupid just check out his fights v anyone else rampage Nogueira overeem etc

  51. Wingotti Says:
    April 16th, 2008 at 10:40 am

you guys have to look at the major factor o money too! think about it if every new arrival got put up against someone who would destroy them then how can they make more money with the loser’s future fights? they can always rise from the bottom. plus their ego gets shot (crocop) despite his experience the ufc just seems to be more of an ego buster. and dustin has a point lesnar was dominating his ass until he made a small mistake from not being educated enough on bjj and being in a new world. His metality was ground and pound. the coleman fight will be an aparent pattern of old vs new the ufc was bound to incorporate. i’m sure lesnar will win not knocking coleman. but if they want to keep it exciting and new and since kimbo is not signed my new theory should be kongo vs lesnar…this will make or break him to an extint

  52. luke thomas Says:
    April 16th, 2008 at 11:48 am

i was a hue wwe once but watching lesnar “dominate” as everyone seems to feel, don frye was once “dominated” by tank till he submitted him. so in closing does anyone honestly believe that tank is better than frye i think not and so anyone who says mir got “dominated” think about my don frye tank fact.

  53. roy Says:
    April 16th, 2008 at 12:01 pm

got dominated for 90 seconds, who cares the fact is he beat lesnar in 90 seconds.

  54. luke thomas Says:
    April 16th, 2008 at 1:44 pm

egsacly roy completely agree with u

  55. Wingotti Says:
    April 17th, 2008 at 8:05 am

you guys are right the big picture in the situation is who got their hand raised at the end. we all have our favorites and preferences but you got to admit those lumps on mir’s head had to hurt…lol

  56. luke thomas Says:
    April 17th, 2008 at 7:19 pm

is there anyone here who actually respects or even likes tim sylivia and or respects his ability?

  57. Morey Says:
    April 17th, 2008 at 9:17 pm

I respect his size and knowing how to use that to beat most HW’s. I don’t respect the way he fights but he looked better in his last fight. I don’t think his ability is even close to a fighter like Fedor so he better look to use his size in that fight.

  58. luke thomas Says:
    April 17th, 2008 at 10:07 pm

frank mir would beat fedor for 2 simple reasons hes a better technical striker and he’s got heavy hands and is better on the ground wheather mir is the best hw i think yes but his skillset is ideal to beat fedor

  59. derek Says:
    April 17th, 2008 at 10:23 pm

i think mir is pretty well rounded. the old mir was a monster. crazy ass submissions with KO power also. so if he can get back to that and get his killer instinct back, i think he has a great chance at fedor.

  60. luke thomas Says:
    April 17th, 2008 at 11:41 pm

2of my fav fighters (bj penn and mir) hav 1 simple flaw and that is stamina or their lack of effort in attaining it. if they were both in top condition they could both beat anyone in their weight classes especially penn, think bout the second hughes fight if penn had even half of matt hughes stamina he would of easily and yes i really mean and believe he would of EASILY of beaten hughes best fight out there is a now focused bj penn vs gsp both at 100% who do u feel would win?
(personally i think penn as hes better on the ground and equal on is feet)

  61. Jason K Says:
    April 18th, 2008 at 2:04 pm

That is a tough call. I think both GSP and BJ are freaks. I disagree that Penn is GSP’s equal on foot, but he is the vast superior when it comes to the ground. I am a huge fan of both guys, but I think it comes down to nominal stats. I have to pick GSP, simply for his height and reach advantage.

  62. roy Says:
    April 18th, 2008 at 2:54 pm

i agree with you on b.j. but mir is not that good, great b.j. skills probally the 2nd best h.w. in the world at bjj before his accident but he was not a great strkier than and is not now.

  63. luke r thomas Says:
    April 18th, 2008 at 6:25 pm

i never though mir was a grt striker but what he does have is heavy hands.

anyone see matt serra’s press conference for ufc 83 when he was asked the type of reception he’ll get, said he’d be like tim sylvia in every city lol very funny guy but 2 bad he’s really gonna get smashed sat (unless psychologically gsp hasen’t recovered)

  64. hollywoodGAT Says:

    Roger Huerta vs Kenny Florian

    Winner fights Penn/Sherk winner. (September/October)

As much as I try to like Huerta and hisfighting ability, he has yet to impress me. I think Dana wants him to be to the UFC what Oscar De La Hoya is to boxing. However, Oscar always fights top guys (and performs well) whereas Huerta seems to fight a bunch of newbies or drifters.

Florian is easily the best fighter to watch on the ground. His elbows off his back are the best the UFC has seen. His fights are explosive and usually brutal. Highly underated fighted who improves with every fight. His only weakness being his strength. However it wont be needed against a guy like Huerta.
Florian wins by TKO at 3:30 of 1st Round

I believe that Penn will beat Sherk. Florian will own Huerta. Then KenFlo will oust Penn for the title.

  65. Schmac Says:
    April 21st, 2008 at 12:58 pm

Who else would like to see LESNAR fight Tim Sylvia? As much as I’d hate to see Sylvia get another chance in the UFC, I think people would pay to see Sylvia get worked by Lesnar after giving us years of the most painfully boring fights. I’d rather see Lesnar fight below a headlining fight. UFC is milking it a bit with Lesnar.

Penn will submit Sherk. Florian will own Huerta. The Prodigy will remain champ against Florian.

  66. luke r thomas Says:
    April 21st, 2008 at 5:44 pm

anyone who genuinely thinks florian will beat penn (and a now focused and in shape penn) has no idea what their talking about. (hollywood gat u and all the other fools out there who share such idiotic beliefs)

as for sylivia and lesnar sylivia is out of the ufc and is fighting fedor who i know absolutly nothing about other than reading his record which is good but not great as everyone seems to feel.

who’s he beat? he’s beat ufc old guys like coleman randleman and goodridge (if they were that good they’d of stayed in the states with the ufc) barnett is a good fighter but not top notch, mark hunt who’s really just a striker with an d- ground game cro cop and lindland ( cro cop has he’s proven in the ufc is very overrated even as a striker check out kongo vs cro cop and lindland is a middleweight possibly light heavy weight at best)

his only legit win for me is Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira who’s a top 5 heavyweight whos bjj is top class.

hate to say it but i think and hope (just cringed lol) but tim sylivia may knock him out

i think that they are giving lesnar an easy road. coleman just got inducted into the hall of fame, and everybody knows that he is past his prime. i truely believe they are gonna feed lesnar a big name victory w/ this one. we are gonna see a re-enactment of hughes vs gracie with this one. they are just tryin to give lesnar a victory over a big name. after all, coleman was the first HW champ in the UFC, and hes now a hall of famer. dana’s plan didnt work with mir, so now hes gonna try to build him up with coleman instead. its all a scheme…

    p.s.
i think penn is a better fighter and would win against kenflo, but i wouldnt be surprised if kenny pulled off an upset.

dnt get me wrong. i mean brock lesnar is an animal. he just has to learn more techniques and he lacks experience. i mean he completely took control of the frank mir fight. it was just one mistake that cost him. i think his trainers need to teach him how to work the opponents guard. and watch out for the submissions. also u never know what coleman could do. he could be on top of lesnar most of the time. after all he is the god father of the ground and pound. if i was lesnar i’d watch some tapes and study my opponent. then practice my guard style in the octagon.

Huerta is the next superstar in the 155 lbs div. after the fight we will all be saying “OMG! They killed kenny! You basterd!” lol.. Kenny will not finish this fight! Huerta by dec.

WINGOTTI made a good point tho’. Look at GSP’s 1st fight against HUGHES He wasn’t doing bad, he just made a mistake that a lot of young fighters make especially wrestlers who aren’t TOO good in JJ. He left out his arm and got tapped same thing HUGHES vs PENN 1 HUGHES tried to bull rush him to the ground BJ capitalized. Remeber FRANK MIR never lost the UFC HW belt he had an accident physically and mentally it takes a long time to come back from things like that and be able to perform at the level you were before it occurred. MIR his still PROBABLY the most dangerous and underated HW in the UFC. LESNAR was winning the fight up until he ade a rookie mistake that a lot of young WRESTLERS make. Eventually when he developes the skills to match his physical presence (or at least come close to it) he is gonna be a force. Look at HUGES and COULTURE similar styles not GREAT on their FEET not GREAT JUJITSU but enough to keep them a float while their ground and pound helped them dominate their divisions give BROCK time he will be a TOP HEAVYWEIGHT just not right now.

In regards to COULTURE he was KO’d by chuck by believing he could stand CHUCK. SOBRAL was KO because he couldn’t take chucks punch or kick either time simple. Back to BROCK every one who watches and or fights MMA knows wrestlers who aren’t experienced in jujitsu defense or submission know that they are vulnerable to limb submission holds. If you watch the MIR fight they even talked about BROCK gettin his leg caught berfore it even happened. But he will redeem himself he is too competetive,

Exactly why Lesnar should win this fight, Coleman is no push over but Yes Lesnar has the edge all around while coleman has experience, this will be more of a take down ground and pound fight, it will be a match up of all time great wrestlers and the past and the future of MMA.I am a huge Lesnar fan and i will say that coleman has a chance of winning, if the same Refferee is there that is and if he can keep lesnar on his back, which i do not see happening, i just cant wait to see Brock break out and really show the world what type of fighter he can be and more. Lesnar is the MMA worlds Biggest fighter by all means physique, power, size athleticism hell the guy wears a XXX glove or XXXX glove, no one in the UFC currently wears that size and few in the sport has ever have. Lesnar is being put in with Legit Competion for a reason. Because of his past accomplishments, his athleticism and to see if he can really fight and to give him real fights for him to get better and better. Brock Lesnar is MMA.

  83. Achilles Says:

TIM is right BROCK isn’t getting any “tune up fights” so to speak. He is’t even getting good “on paper” match ups. DANA WHITE wants BROCK to be a contender now to bring excitement back to the HW Division. That is whay someone with less than 5 pro fights is getting this kind of competition. Who else is fighting big name MMA fighters before they even get to 10 wins.

  84. Tim Says:
    May 5th, 2008 at 12:54 pm

Well said….and just to ADD who else could handle the top level competition that has been put in front of Lesnar….No one else could, you see Lesnar is used to performing in front of crowds of 30,000 plus, he has been in the spotlight since his early wrestling days. Sure he might of had a little bit of overwhelming feeling but shit the guy brought it to Mir and knocked him around like a rag doll, Mir’s experience won him over and Lesnar is being groomed for a future NOW…he is being tested NOW…win or lose Lesnar has shown great potential and hasnt really lossed dramaticly yet…meaning knocked out or beat up…sure he still has some stuff to prove even to me, a huge Lesnar fan…as i understand the MMA world and the skills involved to be in it. Lesnar has nothing in his way except a great future just as long as he trains like he did when he won the 2000 HWGHT NCAA DIV 1 championship. Lesnar has no boundaries and just imagine someone of his stature with, BJJ skills…SHIT that is one scarry dude…he just needs time. but Kimbo is a pushover….

  87. Tim Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 1:08 pm

Well the bottom line is.. if Lesnar continues to get better and wiser in the octagon, nothing will stand in his way and he proved it with his dominance over MIR, sure he lost but he dominated MIR until he made a rookie mistake. Look for Lesnar to have somewhat of the same gameplan with Coleman, stand up and take him down and ground and pound. By the way in his last fight it kinda looked like Lesnar was afraid to go full out with his ground and pound, it almost looked like he was holding back some in his fight with MIR.

  88. Patrick Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 3:50 pm

“nothing will stand in his way ”

Lesnar has power… I’m thinking that you’re giving him too much credit. Don’t count your eggs before you hatch, learning the stuff he needs to learn takes a lot of time and serious dedication, if he can do it, great, good for him. Just don’t make predictions like that without the real evidence to back it up.

Kimbo would get dominated by Lesnar right now, that’s correct. Lesnar wouldn’t have much of a problem double legging Kimbo and pounding him out. We haven’t seen Kimbo off his back yet because EXC hasn’t given him any serious opponents, and I’m thinking he doesn’t have the ground game to stand against a serious wrestler or jits guy down there.

Also, what fight were you watching when you say Lesnar wasn’t going all out on the ground and pound on Mir? He was slamming away with hammer fists constantly and going berserk down there to the point that he was repeatedly hitting Mir in the back of the head, he wasn’t holding back. Mir has serious skills and utilized them, styles make fights.

  89. Businessman Says:
    May 6th, 2008 at 8:20 pm

I agree. Lesnar was in it to win and gave it his all against Mir. If Mir was not skilled at BJJ, he would have been pounded out by the 2nd Round. There was no way he was going to take Lesnar down and Lesnar could take him down at will. Lesnar is going to beat Coleman. Coleman in his prime (minus the Pete Williams fight) was the best…but here we are 15 years later. He has to be about 45 years old. He is going to match his strength aginst Lesnars…which is the same, Ground and Pound. To beat Lesnar, you have to be stronger, a better wrestler, a better striker, or better at submissions. Coleman is nether. They are going to match strengths and the younger, stronger, more agressive fighter is going to win…Lesnar.

As far as Lesnar versus Kimbo, Lesnar would kill him. Elite XC is doind the right thing for their business by hand picking his fights. They got him a big name (not good fighter but big name) in Tank who was over the hill. Did anyone actully predict that Tank, who is something like 2 and 10 in the last few years, would win? If Kimbo hits you, you are in trouble. But if he was matched up with a good grappler, wrestler, or BJJ practitioner, he would be taken down and pounded or submitted. I know he is working hard with Bas, but his less than 2 years with Bas cannot compare with guys that have been wrestling, grappling, or practising BJJ for 10 or more years.

  91. Tim Says:

I agree as well but still disagree on some things. Lesnar is no normal up and coming fighter, he has the extreme background of being a national champion in wrestling, an ex NFL player etc.. he has the skills to learn fast, hell he didnt even play high school football or college and yet he made it on the NFL Vikings sqaud until he injured himself in a motorcycle accident and they cut him. Come on who the hell else could accomplish that without really any experience…give the man credit yes he has a long way to go but if there is anyone out there who can learn nad develope fast it Lesnar he has a history of just doing that and overcomming the odds against him. Lesnar is much more powerful than coleman was or is currently they guy used toss around 200lbs punching bags in the air, flip them around and catch them for wrestling practice. He is a beast and remember their are different types of strength just because you have big muscles doesnt mean your stronger than someone who is less big, they man possess athletic strenght and has fast twitch muscle fibers along with slow twitch i know this because i am a personal trainer and he runs a 40yard dask in under 5seconds he bench pressed i believe over400lbs at the nfl camp and had a 40 inch vertical leap and for a guy his size, the man is simply a freak of nature. The man possess all the skills to develope into a insane MMA fighter, its just a matter of time before we see the future of MMA at his best.

I agree to a certain extent, olympiac wrestlers at Colemans time were not the same as what they were today and Lesnar was training for the olympics when he got a shot to make 7figures with WWE and professional wrestling. I am not taking anything away from Coleman but seriously the competion back then was nothing to what it is today. Lesnar was way beyond olympic status in my eyes and many elses, the guy had a unbeleivable record at a Div 1 national championship school minnesota. i never put anyone out of a match and of course Lesnar is going to have to earn it but Yes lesnar is the clear favorite and i just hope it doesnt go to his head and gets over confident but i will be rooting for Lesnar.

  94. Kerry Says:

BIZ and TIM made the best point in regards to this fight COLEMAN wouldn’t be so much of a long shot if this was 10 even 5 years earlier. But BROCK benches OVER 500 pounds and can squat nearly DOUBLE THAT and the leg drive is what fuels the take downs. His freakish size and atheletism for someone that big has never been seen in MMA before. But for BROCK to be a champion he has to learn BJJ and focus the majority of his training on that. I don’t see anyone out there who can 1 punch KO BROCK you can see how big his head is and is kneck is over 20 inches meaning he can absorb a punch. But if his submission defense does not drastically improve every fighter who has any kind of skill in submissions will have a blueprint on how to beat him try to just cover up and defend against the 1st barage and when he slips up by being too agressive grap hold of something. anyone can say that they will never tap out but they ususally only say that once. TIM SYLVIA did that against MIR got his arm snapped then against ANDRE he tapped almost instantly. If BROCK improves on his weaknesses these guy are right he will be the new face of MMA. Everything else is already in line for him.

Brock Lesnar will smash Mark Coleman and prove he is making strides in his young mma career. Florian vs. Huerta will be a sick fight that will prove who is the next contender to the 155 title. Im pulling for Huerta in this one, he is the next big thing in the lightweight division. Nog will also be defending his heavyweight title on the card. I am thinking it will be against Arlovski. Would be a great fight, only with Nog keeping the title in the end. Should be a very interesting card none the less.

Why are people questioning Brock’s wrestling ability?? WWE is not wrestling and is no way to judge wrestling ability. Brock was a national champ after being a runner up his first year in Div 1 to current patriots G Stephen Neal, whom looks like Lesner but faster. As long as he doesnt put himself in submissions I don’t see anybody overpowering any part of his body to put him in one. Brock by KO disappointingly under a minute. Huerta wins by dec after a slugfest thereby making the ticket price worth it.

GSP vs Jon Fitch = Jon Fitch by TKO (4th round)

KenFlo vs Roger Huerta= Florian by TKO (2nd round)

    B. Lesnar vs Heath Herring= Brock by Murder (1st round)

    Explanations:

Fitch is the mordern Matt Hughes only more explosive, athletic, and his striking is lightyears better. GSP will do well but not enough to stop Fitch.

Florian is the best lightweight NOT named BJ or Sean.

I hate Lesnar but Heaths ground game is so fucking pitiful I cant even talk myself into hoping that he can hang with Brock. Lesnar will take Herring to the mat in the first 15 secs then proceed to club him to death.

The Jon Fitch fight against GSP is something i’ve been waiting for, for awhile

as for Lesnar he is about explosive as it gets in heavy wieght, he will truly demolish anyone if he gets some jiu jitsu defense going

& to the people saying Kimbo vs. Lesnar

Lesnar’s got the size and reach and then he can wrestle.
That means Kimbo on his back or eating what Lesnar feels like throwing at him. Maybe in a few years if Kimbo really sticks to training he will be something worth talking about.

The reason LESNAR would beat KIMBO is not because he was a national champion wrestler. That crap doesn’t matter at all. GSP has no collegiate wrestling experience but still beat 3 great college wrestlers. KOSCHECK, HUGHES, & TRIGG even out wrestled them. LESNARS Head and kneck are so big that he would be able to take KIMBO’s punch or anyones punch and keep moving forward. I am not saying that he should dive in face first all fight tho. Kimbo will be to busy trying to 1 punch BROCK and wear himself out to where BROCKS takedown will overwelm him. He has never been in the cage for more than 3 minutes. And the only street fight I saw him in longer than 5 minutes he lost. His conditioning will be test in this one and will probably be his down fall. Especially seeing that BROCKS double leg take town is like getting hit by a train

    Brock Lesner would RETIRE Kimbo!
Kimbo would go down fighting and would never be the same after the fight.
For you guys that say Kimbo might be something in a few years, MOTHER NATURE is not on his side!
In a few years he would be pushing close to 40.
What is ELITE XC going to do “BABY” Kimbo with easy fights till then?
Time is not on his side as ELITE XC is forced by MMA fans to get Kimbo a “live” opponent.
I don’t care who is training Kimbo.
Unless Bas is setting up “smokers” in his gym(gym fights that would help increase the intensity of sparring)and that may not do much.
Lesner CAN do it in a few fights because of his backround.
Lesner has earned main event status in MMA because he is a proven, known athlete
In all at least Kimbo is bringing MMA to the masses because the average guy/girl on the street knows who Kimbo Slice is!

  116. Tim Says:

For Sure Lesnar would demolish Kimbo and maybe even retire the poor out of shape bastard. This should go to prove that you can not put the word Lesnar next to Kimbo in any sentance related to Kimbo etc. Lesnar is on a whole different level, physically, mentally, and skill wise the guy is the total package give Lesnar another year of fights and i guarantee you he will be UFC champ within 2 years of that. Elite XC made a complete disgrace to the MMA world Saturday even though they had only 2 good fights they handled the sport as if it were a mockery of it and its total bullshit. but i guess we’ll see what he’s really made of down the road…..can’t wait for the gsp/fitch fight….two great athletes….1 at the top of their game…the other almost there….

Brock lesnar reminds me of the incredible Hulk only white i think a bit more training and this guy is gonna have the title in reach i mean did u see the way he destroyed mir in seconds if he can learn to defend the submissions then who is gonna stand with this guy, and not saying if wrestlers learn to fight they r all gonna be domenant just Brock seems to have a tallent and i think it will show against heath herring. i see first round ko if brock can avoid a submission. i may be wrong but we shall see.

Brock Lesnar will not beat Herring! He has hardly any cage experience, his stand up is non-existant, and well quite frankly he sucks. He did exactly what any hardcore fan thought he would do against Mir. He came out gunnin with no control over himself and got caught in a submission. (quite easily) He should be fighting for EliteXC not UFC!

    GSP – Decision

  133. dane drebin Says:
    June 14th, 2008 at 12:11 pm

how do u know brocks standup is nonexistent? the little standup we have seen from him he dropped mir with a jab. that is undeniable. non existent huh? all of his training partners have stated how impressed they are by his standup. some dont even want to spar with him because of how hard he hits. watch the mir fight he dropped himw tih a JAB! do u know how hard that is? prolly not because u have prolly never boxed before. im not saying he’s going to beat heath for sure because heath is a god fighter. im just saying dont throw out random statements that u have no evidence to back i up. judge brocks standup when u see more of it.

  134. naco21 Says:
    June 14th, 2008 at 12:43 pm

Actually I am an MMA fighter. Kickboxing and boxing for the last 4 yrs…and I box almost daily if you must know. But that is beside the point isnt it. Mirs stand up has never been that good either so dont see that being a valid argumet for Lesnars stand up game. Just because he hits hard doesnt mean he has “good” stand up.

Dont mind the argument BUT watch it on the personal shots dude!

  135. naco21 Says:
    June 14th, 2008 at 12:46 pm

Maybe non-existant was a little extreme. He was standing up.

  136. naco21 Says:

Oh yea and you are the one making random statements with no evidence to back it up.

  137. Morey Says:
    June 14th, 2008 at 1:35 pm

Even if we did know exactly how good Brocks standup was when he fought Mir…the Brock that we see in August should be much improved. I think he has a great work ethic and I’m curious to see where he will be in August. Herring is tough and has a pretty good chin so I think it’s going to be a great test.

  138. naco21 Says:
    June 14th, 2008 at 1:49 pm

Morey you are right. He has obviously been training hard and working at improving his fight game. I guess to me it just seems a little early in his career for him to be headlining UFC shows. I do understand the business side of it and that his name alone brings in the cash. I just think he should have to pay his dues like the rest of the fighters did.

  139. Morey Says:
    June 14th, 2008 at 3:03 pm

In a perfect world my friend. I agree that the best fighters should headline the shows. I don’t know the numbers but I bet that most MMA fans don’t know the art of the sport. All they want to see are the KO’s or the big guys swinging for the fences.

  140. sy Says:
    June 15th, 2008 at 9:07 am

yea but about this headlineing fights theres nothing wrong with heath herring headlineing fights u say u want the best fighters yet this guys is one of the top hw so u could say there sending the best out to stop this mennace what is lesnar. and i think that deservs the headline and i am a tru mma fan and do know the art of the sport. and to say herrings just a big guy who swings for the fences is stupid hes just stoped cheick kongo who beat cro cop and was unlucky against nogueira.

  141. Morey Says:
    June 15th, 2008 at 12:28 pm

The only thing I said about Herring is that he is tough and has a pretty good chin. I said he would be a great test to see where Brock is at. What I meant by my comment is that people like to see heavyweights go at it and throw bombs. Just like Brock has done in his first two fights.

  142. Tony Says:
    June 16th, 2008 at 12:32 pm

No one gets an easy road in the UFC. Rampage had to fight Chuck Lidell. There’s no easy task. Chuck is one of the best. Rampage caught with a shot and that was the end. Brock is a circus act. He’s from a fake wrestling show. Frank Mir isnt at the top anymore. He hasn’t been the same since his motor cycle accident. I think I could have avoided the leg lock he got caught in. It was obvious. Lets see how he does this time around. I’m saying he loses late in the 1st round or early in the 2nd.

  143. STEVEO Says:
    June 17th, 2008 at 3:07 pm

I am going to have to disagree tony, the heavy weight division with the exception of maybe nog, and his smash me in the face until i get a submission style is about as fun to watch as a root canal, is absolutely pitiful so far. The biggest thing in the hvy div is lesnar who hasnt even won a fight, but a guy with his physical attributes cannot be called a side show. I am pretty sure mark coleman made the hall of fame with wrestling and cave man take down ground and pound, matt hughes as well. SO I think he will be fine, he impresses me much more than guys that have been in the fight game a decade already.

  144. naco21 Says:
    June 17th, 2008 at 7:18 pm

I do agree with the comment about the slow paced heavy-wgt’s (with exception of a few fighters). Brock might bring a different pace to that division and that would be awesome. That take down was pretty quick and impressvce he had against Mir. BUT he still has a long way to go in this sport…now days. And do you think when he has had a few fights and gets controll of his nerves he will puch the same pace?…I dont.

  145. naco21 Says:

Brock brings something special to this sport, Himself a very talented and gifted athlete with extreme size and massive strength, he has more than the basic tools needed for MMA, he just needs to develop his overall game from all aspects but reaslistically it wouldnt surprise me if brock killed someone in the ring, the guy is just a freak of nature and match athleticism and speed and strength with that, damn its only a matter of time before we see what Lesnar is made of and how scared the HW divison becomes of him after this fight with Herring if he wins, which he will. Lesnar all the way.

  151. roy Says:

I beg to differ, Mir said that he wouldnt want to fight lesnar again which inturn mean that he is scarred of him, if lesnar can develop into the fighter that he know s he can be, then yes the hw division will be scarred of this freak of nature, i am not saying no one will fight him but they will definetly give him much respect and be very tamed in a fight with him.

Listen to some of you…..giving Brock a reach around….you should feel ashamed. How can you say he looked impressive vs Mir. Mir has no stand up and the way Brock threw punches looked horrible. He landed one and Mir hit the canvas…..that should happen considering Brock size and power and Mir’s inability to defend strikes……even a jab. His ground and pound didn’t look much better either….looked like my 3yr old throwing hammer fist. Then when in dominate position gets caught in a knee bar. Where was that freakish strength to get himself out of that????? In my opinion he will NEVER be a champion and I don’t think he will beat Herring either. Brock is just a freak show to sell tickets and marketing wise it is working…..good for you Dana. Now we have to read MMA message boards and listen to WWE fans thinking they know something about MMA…….awesome.

  163. Tim Says:

Brock is not a freak show he is a freak of nature and if you truly had any knowledge or insight into the athletic world we call MMA you would see that his mere NCAA wrestling backgroup and accomplishments simply alone gives him a decisive edge in MMA and then add on his size, power and strength and most importantly his killer mindset that he had back when he went undefeated his senior year and won the NCAA HVWGT Title in College. The man has it all except for the knowlede of other MMA skills, Give him time and i am not the only one saying this but withing 3 years if Brock takes this seriously which i believe will be tested again Herring he will be the UFC HWGHT Champ. Now for all of you Lesnar Haters or unbelievers you are so wrapped around him being a fake WWE wrestler that you cant focus on his impressive abilities to take over the MMA world. That or you just plain stupid and cant stand the fact that a guy from pro wrestling can walk on in and beat the crap out of people like it was nothing. Mir was no pushover and true lesnar lost but he lost in a manner of learning not by being knocked out he was technically out mastered by a BJJ expert and when you are in a knee lock no matter how strong you are the hips have more leverage than your Knee and leg and it was very wise of him to tap otehrwise he could of ended his MMA future for a few years. Lesnar wether you like it or not will beat Herring and go on to be UFC champ.

  164. cj Says:
    July 10th, 2008 at 4:13 am

i think brocks got a chance and he needs abit of experience he took down mir and was pounding him made a few mistakes and got caught but with time and training why carnt he be a top contender.

  165. STEVEO Says:
    July 11th, 2008 at 8:12 pm

agreed, more exp needed. He can and will beat herring. However if you put him in there with NOG hes not coming out he winner. He will look like he didnt get in a fight at all but I think the same thing would happen that the mir fight had, too much zeal and not enough patience to be the champ now. some more BJJ and not depending on smashing someones face in and he can do it.

  170. tlos Says:
    July 21st, 2008 at 7:05 pm

seeing brock on the poster makes a ton of sense to the outside world of MMA. some local person who used to watch wrestling sees brock on a poster for a UFC fight and thinks wow he is fighting for real now i will check that out. whereas they see GSP on there and have no clue who that is. it’s great marketing for the UFC. i am sure he will once again make 250K as well which will be more then GSP. he brings a good amount of outside fans who may in the future stick with watching the UFC. so it’s a win win.

  171. Jim W Says:
    July 22nd, 2008 at 10:34 pm

Some people really seem to have a disdain for wrestlers. Long before Brock went into planned entertainment a la WWE he was a very successful collegiate wrestler. This is called MMA…MIXED martial arts, not BJJ-Arts/Boxing/Muay Thai arts.

The only real true knock on Brock, the only non ad hominem thing against him, is his lack of experience. A valid complaint. One thing our Brock hating friends need to realize is Brock is GREAT for MMA and the UFC as a whole, from a purely business perspective.

He brings viewers that otherwise wouldn’t watch. That allows the organization to gather more dollars and subsequently expand the organization, offer more fights, and pay more fighters better money. If you have a problem with Brock in the UFC, what you are really saying is I don’t like the idea of the UFC expanding and paying other fighters better because profit margins were greater than expected in previous fights because of a big draw name like Brock.

    /rant

  172. STEVEO Says:
    July 23rd, 2008 at 11:47 am

I like Brock, however, I do think its BS that he makes ALOT more money than guys who have paid their dues, been champions, maybe even won a fight. Not saying he doesnt belong, just saying he got a pass which may be deserved beause like Jim said above he brings in much more than he takes out which we can all see from the HUGE spike in ratings fight night got this go round. Its win lose because many people are prolly not happy I.E. all the good heavys that seem to be heading elsewhere. Brock should be fine, hes a phenom in the weakest division in the UFC by alot so its just a matter of time before he gets his shot at the belt.

    Kenny Florian vs. Roger Huerta

I don’t care if a fighter from Mexico, or a fighter from Europe, or a fighter from Japan stands behind his countries flag in a show of respect for his country, but Huerta as far as I know, is a U.S citizen so for him to stand behind another country’s flag……..its like spiting in the face of every person who ever fought to perserve the rights he enjoys as a united States citizen………..then again if he’s just another illegal imigrant then perhaps he really is just representing his country. So basically all I’m saying is I hope Kenny ends his fucking career.

He isn’t an illegal immigrant and he is not a citizen. I don’t think he is a citizen. He was born in whatever country he came from but I think he was adopted by an American family when he was young. I beleive he is a resident alien if he hasn’t become a citizen. But even so, he was born in a different country, I don’t see anything wrong with him taking pride in his culture.

If the man wants to take pride in his country he should be allowed. there are plenty of fighters who have carried flags to the ring over the years to support their country, shit GSP does it with the canadian flag, tito used to carry the american flag down to the ring. I take great pride in being an american and tehm taking great pride in their respective countries is great. along with some of the other comments, i think we may be plesantly surprised that the randy fedor fight could happen, just not in a ufc ring. I think Dana is already kicking himself in the ass about this when you see the draw power that he is bringing now. I love MMA and before that fight you would rarely hear the average once a year ufc card watcher even speak fedors name. Now I am hearing it all the time. Should have paid dana, should have paid.

Koscheck took him to a decision if I remember correctly and Serra let everyone know how suspect his jaw is. Fitch is an animal. I think this is a better match up than people think. I just saw a replay of Herring vs. Congo the other night. Herring has no chance on the ground against Lesnar. Lesnar is an amazing wrestler, and his strength and speed will be too much for Herring.
Herrings best chance to to stay on his feet but I dont think he will be able to stop Lesnar’s shoots.
Also look for stamina to come into play if the fight goes three rounds, Herring is a load.

Lesnar is far better in these areas, conditioning, strength, size, and overall athletic ability and definetly wrestling. Herrings only chances in this fight is either a KO or submission but i dont see either of these happening. Lesnar needs this win badly but it should be a great fight.

Herring is way over paid for what he does. he is a boring fighter. he should not even be in the ring with Lesnar, i am afraid that Herring will get hurt real bad. Herring cant wrestler at all and he will get hammered by Lesnar and hopefully be out of the UFC for good.

Strong words my friend, i agree the only thing Herring is good at is taking a beating and occasionally giving one back. In this scenario i have to give this fight to Lesnar as he needs it more and is much more athleticly gifted than herring. Lesnar needs to stay calm and do what he did against Mir. i dont believe there is anyone out there that can stop Lesnars wrestling and takedowns. per an article on Yahoo- Lesnar is one of the greatest athletic prospects to ever come into the sport. He has size, strength and, most of all, incredible quickness and reflexes for a man who had to cut weight to make the 265-pound heavyweight limit.

Full Article from “Yahoo..On Saturday night, Brock Lesnar goes into the cage with Heath Herring to answer a question: Is previous fame heading into a mixed martial arts career a blessing or a curse?

Lesnar, a former NCAA wrestling champion and World Wrestling Entertainment star, is one of the greatest athletic prospects to ever come into the sport. He has size, strength and, most of all, incredible quickness and reflexes for a man who had to cut weight to make the 265-pound heavyweight limit.

But as he heads into Saturday’s UFC 87 showdown against rugged veteran Heath Herring, he runs the risk that his headlining fame will be over just as quickly as it started.

“There’s always pressure to win in every circumstance,” said Lesnar. “Me, being very new, nobody wants to follow a loser. I don’t want to say my back is against the wall, but I put pressure on myself. There’s no added pressure in my mind, but I want to win the fight.”

Lesnar can’t afford a second straight loss on a major pay-per-view event and still be considered a long-term main eventer.

And with a hefty contract, Lesnar (1-1 overall; 0-1 UFC) is unlikely to be kept around unless he can be a major pay-per-view seller. It’s not a lock that if he loses he’ll be gone, but if he looks bad or is knocked out, it’s a distinct possibility. UFC last year cut Mirko Cro Cop, a similarly highly paid heavyweight, after two losses.

“I plan on being around for a while,” said Lesnar.

After signing a lucrative UFC deal, Lesnar’s first match, on Feb. 2, was against Frank Mir, a former UFC heavyweight champion, who is noted for being one of the best submission heavyweights in the sport. Lesnar looked like an unstoppable, but also undisciplined, force – for about 85 seconds. Lesnar exploded for takedowns that were more like violent linebacker hits. His quickness in moving on the ground was freakish for a man of his size, leaving Mir in immediate disbelief. Lesnar was battering the former champ on the ground, who kept thinking to himself to just keep moving so the match wouldn’t be stopped. Lesnar even knocked Mir down with a punch.

Five seconds later, it was over, and Mir’s arm raised in victory.

“I had a dominant position and I stood up and made an amateur mistake,” said Lesnar.

Lesnar got to his feet after escaping an armbar on the ground, leaving his leg behind, and Mir caught Lesnar in a kneebar, causing him to tap out. It was a spot Lesnar drilled regularly in practice before the fight, and even more after.

In response to the loss, Lesnar added Rodrigo “Comprido” Medeiros, a seven-time Brazilian jiu-jitsu world champion, to his team of coaches.

“I worked a lot of stand-up this camp,” he said. “We worked on all aspects of wrestling, a lot of jiu-jitsu defense, a lot of leg kick defense. Heath has a strong right hand and is well-rounded with his kicks. We haven’t left any rock unturned for this fight.

“First and foremost, I didn’t like to lose,” Lesnar said. “Nobody likes to lose. I have to be a little more relaxed. I’m a little more relaxed and a little more polished. I’ve had a few more months to train. The Brock Lesnar now against the Brock Lesnar then, I’d beat him.”

The estimated 600,000 buys Lesnar’s match with Mir did on pay-per-view is bigger than any boxing or MMA match has done so far this year, and among the biggest in MMA history. Even more impressive, UFC sources indicated nearly half had never purchased a UFC event before.

Because UFC president Dana White saw the potential of bringing new fans to the sport, Lesnar walked into the company as one of its highest paid fighters, at a $250,000 base guarantee plus undisclosed bonuses.

But because of that same drawing power, and the cost, his early path is opposite to how UFC has treated similar heavyweight prospects Shane Carwin and Cain Velasquez, or how Elite XC has booked Kimbo Slice.

The others have been given lower or mid-level opponents to start out with to build their reputation. UFC decided that with what they were paying Lesnar, there was going to be no such slow grooming process.

“I said from the beginning I didn’t want any easy fights, and Heath is not an easy opponent,” said Lesnar.

Things are a lot different in match No. 2. The company did an intense marketing campaign around his debut, pushing him as a former WWE champion, showing clips of his pro wrestling matches and using him as an outsider from pro wrestling coming into UFC to see what happens if a pro wrestler were to fight for real.

But for this fight, things are different. Lesnar is no longer a novelty act to either the media or the audience. He’s a name fighter, but one who has to prove himself. He hasn’t been marketed as hard as he was for the first show. He’s clearly the draw for the live show and expected to be the most popular fighter on the show, which heading into the week has sold 11,000 tickets for $2.2 million. That’s a 180-degree turn from the Las Vegas crowd, which booed him out of the arena, seeing him as a fake pro wrestler invading their sport. But on a national basis, the main event is clearly Georges St. Pierre’s welterweight title defense against Jon Fitch.

“I think experience is something that is much needed,” admitted Lesnar, now 31, facing a man who is actually a year younger than he is even though he’s almost a pioneer heavyweight in the sport.

Texan Herring has 41 pro fights over the past 11 years, in nearly every major organization. He became a star in Japan at the age of 22, and has been in the ring with a Who’s Who list of the greatest heavyweights of all-time.

“For me, I’ve been able to get a lot of experience in the training room,” said Lesnar.

Herring, a big star during PRIDE’s heyday in Japan when he was known as “The Texas Crazy Horse” for his unique multi-colored hair, noted he’s beaten men bigger than the 6-2 ½, 277-pound Lesnar, as well as higher credentialed wrestlers. He’s best known for a 2000 win over Tom Erikson, a 300-pounder with better amateur credentials than Lesnar, who had never lost up to that point. But Erikson was 36 and had never focused 100 percent on the sport the way Lesnar has. Herring also beat Mark Kerr, a former NCAA champion, in 2001 when beating Kerr, an early MMA star, still meant something. Against the top wrestlers, both opponents come out strong with takedowns. But in both cases, they started getting tired. In each case, Herring caught them with knees as they shot in, and quickly finished them.

But in Herring’s UFC debut on January 25, 2007, that never happened and Jake O’Brien outwrestled him for three rounds to earn a decision win. O’Brien, while a good college wrestler, isn’t nearly as big, as strong, or the level of wrestler as Lesnar.
