Brazilian jiu-jitsu badass, Demian Maia (7-0) will take on Jason “The Athlete” MacDonald (20-9) at UFC 87 “Seek and Destroy” on August 9 from the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minn., according to MMAMainia.

Undefeated Maia, is 2-0 in the UFC, defeating Ryan Jensen by Rear Naked Choke at UFC 77 followed by his latest victory over Ed Herman by Triangle Choke at UFC 83. Both his fights in the UFC have earned him “Submission of The Night” honors.

i think he will too. maia is great on the ground but just like his name, i think jason will be able to muscle out of those submission attempts.

No way!!! I like Jason. He is tough but no way will he beat Maia. Jason’s standup is not that great. Maia needs to improve on his stand-up. A good striker may beat him but that is about it. I predict a first round Maia submission.

Demian by whatever he wants on the ground. Do not forget, Maia schooled Jacare on the ground. But MacDonald should control it standing however the takedowns of Maia are very underrated. If Maia can work on his cardio and just work on his stand-up defense, he’ll take this quite easily. Too bad MMA judges don’t know good jiu-jitsu when they see it so if Maia is working from his guard and control MacDonald, I doubt they give Maia the fight for the simple fact that MacDonald is the one on the top and appearing to do more.
