UFC 87: Cheick Kongo vs. Dan Evensen

UFC heavyweight contender Cheick Kongo (11-4-1) will face UFC newcomer Dan Evensen (10-2) at UFC 87 “Seek and Destroy” on August 9 from the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota, according to Kongo’s official mySpace page.
I Will Fight Against Dan Evenson at UFC 87 on August 9, 2008, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.
Kongo will look to get back in the win column after suffering a disappointing split decision loss to Heath Herring, earlier this year at UFC 82.
Evensen, a Norwegian fighter, who has fought mainly in Gladiator Challenge and BoDog Fights will be looking to impress in his UFC debut.

This fight is weak, Evensen is a stand up fighter with no big show experience.
It will be interesting to see if Evensen tries his luck on the ground or try to go head to head with Kongo.

the heavywieght division is no where it should be where Randy, Tim, AA, Josh B., Munson, the head hunter Bentello,G. Gonzaga, Cro-cop etc….??????? all they have is Kongo,hering ,Nog, mir,vera.OooHh and some guy Evensen.

I can only assume that this pairing is a desperate attempt by the UFC to avoid axing Kongo from their roster of fighters. I find him to be a mediocre fighter, a far cry from the highest calibre combattants that the UFC seeks to draw to its organization. I hope he loses to this nobody and is given his walking papers after losing two consecutive fights so that I will no longer be subjected to his lacklustre matches.

Kongo is one of those fighters that will look great in some fights and then really bad in others. If he wants to be more consistent he needs to keep on working his overall game.

I agree… they should of put him in with Lesnar, that would been a better fight.

Roy you hit the nail on the head. The next ult. fighter series is going to be Heavy & light heavy weight .I bet u the majority are going to make it in (on the under). They won’t get the big contract, but they will get in because they have nobody now but a few like Nog, Vera,and Mir.

Kongo has one BIG loss coming his way! I heard Dan Evensen is a Bad Man!! By the way Tom have you ever seen Dan fight (inshape)?
