UFC 85: Matt Hughes vs. Thiago Alves
By CagE | April 25, 2008
According to MMAWeekly, Former UFC welterweight champion Matt Hughes (42-6) will take on Thiago “The Pitbull” Alves (14-3) at UFC 85 on June 7 from the O2 Arena in London, England.
In light of Chuck Liddells recent injury, this bout will likely replace Chuck Liddell vs. Rashad Evans as the co-main event of UFC 85.
Matt Hughes will return to action on June 7 in London to face Thiago Alves in the main event of UFC 85, as confirmed from sources within Alves’ camp, as well as Hughes on his personal website.
Hughes is coming off a submission loss to Georges St. Pierre at UFC 79. This was his second loss to the Canadian fighter in just a little over a year.
This will be no give me fight for Hughes, as Tiago Alves will be looking to record his sixth win in a row, with a win at UFC 85.

you know, matt was quite arrogant and cocky in the past few years. but i can’t blame him. he was also an asshole on TUF (i.e. being sore loser and taking it out on his team), but i guess he is just competitive. now that GSP has put him in his place, i would like to see matt rise in the ranks again and regain that welterweight title. it’s actualy kind of sad to see how all the UFC champs get dethroned in 2007 — from hughes to lidell to franklin. sadly, all 3 have their kryptonite — from GSP to rampage to silva.

Matt Hughes is a tool. I met him at his book signing and he was a complete tool. Great fighter though. Can’t deny that.
