UFC 84 Fighter Payouts, Jardine Gets Ripped

The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) has released the fighter payouts for UFC 84 “Ill Will” this past Saturday. As usual the total fighter payout is around one million dollars (unless Chuck Liddell or Cro Cop are on the card).

The CageToday “Stiffed” award goes to Keith Jardine who pulled in a disappointing $10k for his loss to Wanderlei Silva. Love him or hate him, the guy has fought tough fighters like Chuck Liddell, Forrest Griffen, Wanderlei Silva, Houston Alexander, Wilson Gouveia, Stephan Bonnar and Mike Whitehead.

Remember kids, this is why you don’t sign a TUF contract. You end up fighting the “best of the best” in your division for the probably the same amount Dana White tips his strippers on any given night.

  1. wtf dana? says:

OK, I will be capt obvious.

how does jardine only make $10k???

  2. wtf thats is bs jardine makes 10k wow alot of those ppl up there make more and as much as jardine and jardine is way better them most of those cats and he just gets 10k damn fuck dana white

  3. Wilson Gouveia ($18,000 to fight) Jardine has won agaist this guy and has beat way better ppl then wilson and Wilson gets more wtf

  4. sherk also got ripped off.. tan makes 3000 to fight that sucks

  5. jardine must be on his TUF contract still. at some point you would think dana would offer to rip it off and renew his contract as a show of respect for what jardine has accomplished.

look who gets more than jardine who is a ufc star and veteran. nakamura and salaverry make double what he does and they are on the undercard.

being dana’s friend i’m suprised that sherk only made 35 thousand in that fight. he was the main event.

  6. Dr. Gonzo says:

Jason Tan raking in the cash!!

  7. fedor24 says:

Dana is trying to keep his sheep in the herd. This is the ONLY way other mma shows will survive. He is driving some of the best talent out there away. Dana White is not paying his fighters anywhere near their worth. UFC is king now but real talent deserves real pay. Expect more fighter defections to come soon…..

  8. i don't know what they base the pay on but it sucks.

  9. dudeman says:

    Wow..Tito got overpaid by $200,000!!

  10. I hope that JARDINE can afford to pay off his training staff and his hospital bills after getting his block knocked off like that

  11. i sure jardine lost money and the fight not a good night for him.

  12. i'm sure jardine lost money too. he said in an interview that this fight was more important than a title show. i wonder if this was the last fight on that trash contract. it thats the case then dana would have leverage to lowball a new contract since he is coming off a loss.

  13. ok stop complaining. jardine shold have asked more money before he signed his pay contract. he now has to wait for it to expire before he can renegotiate. tito renegotiated $210K, which is awesome; in his book, tito says he makes about $800K after his PPV percentage comes in. that's very good.

  14. also, the figures above don't include the PPV cuts. so the people that are making only $6K actually make about closer to $30K. as tito says in his book, which i finished reading recently, those fighters making close to $200K a fight actually make closer to $1 million after PPV cut is handed out. jardine shold be making about $50K after his PPV is figured in.

  15. most fighters don't get a ppv cut, the only fighters that i have heard of that got that in there contracts are tito and randy, so jardines pay was probally 10k he might have got a bonus from his sponsers but once you factor in trainers, taxes, medical bills and other expenses he probally got close to nothing.

  16. dane drebin says:

your right derek when he negotiated his contract he should have asked the incredibly powerful dana white to pay a nobody that he put on a reality show for more money im sure dana would have said ok jardine because u mean so much to me and woudlnt have found somebody to take his place….riiiiight

  17. Patrick says:

Quick note: Jardine was payed significantly more than 10k by the UFC, the 10k is only off of his contract, Dana payed out more money to him out of contract. Don't play the whole BS "oh so and so got stiffed" if you aren't able to actually get a hold of their balance sheet and income statements.

Same goes for Sherk, the UFC payed him more than 35k guys.

But hey jumping to assumptions about how the UFC treats its fighters is the new bandwagon thing to do right?

    Mooks.

  18. icemanrcks says:

im with patric on this one i think you guys need to do some real research before you talk all this non sence. if ufc didnt pay out good why do all the fighters in the world want to be in the ufc. jardine would not fight for 10k after beating guys like forest and chuck. and knowing who he was fighting and knowing wanderlai was payed out big hes gotta ask for more. lets be realistic.

  19. so how much was he paid(not payed) patrick since you must have his balance sheet and income statements and how much research have you done on it icemanrcks.sucking up to dana and the ufc also seems to be a bandwagon thing to do for people new to mma.

  20. Businessman says:

Saturday's pay did not seem equitable in regards to the tenure, opponents, and wins….but they signed a contract. Why would anyone sign for 10K to fight most fighters in the UFC? A contract is a contract. If you sign it, then you should do the right thing and abide by it. Jardine was on TUF a while back…meaning that if he is still on the same contract, he signed it to provide himself with longer financial income. If he would have lost all of his fights, the UFC would have had to pay him or still put him out there. As far as the UFC goes, they should reward some of the fighters that have been there longer, regardless of the contract. They are in a better position to tear a contract up and make things right. I agree with fedor24, expect more defections…specially if Affliction and some of the organizations take off. The UFC needs to treat their fighters better. I just hope I never hear Tito cry again about how much he makes. He made $210 for that crap??? He basically cried during the match and then threw in a triangle in the ladt minute. 210 for a triangle? I could have done that for 25k :) I am getting so tired of all the drama and B.S. from the UFC and some of the fighters. I will give Tito credit for leaving. I always beleived that if you are not happy with your employer, girlfriend, etc, then instead of staying and being unhappy, LEAVE!

  21. yeah im with the majority of you guys. a lot of those fighters get paid more than what is listed here, especially those top fighers like wanderlei, tito, machida, and especially bjpenn. all those guys are getting PPV cuts. the other guys working their way up get their money from part time jobs (i.e. trainer at the gym they train at), and/or sponorships (i.e. goran reljic actualy has 3 sponsorships from croatia). i mean, look at all the sponsorships on the pants the fighters wears. that's got to be a couple thousand right there. tito said in his book that he used to work for a sex toy store called spanky's. he was only on his 3rd fight, and the manager not only gave him flexible hours, but paid 6 months of his apartment rent, his cell phone bills, and extra spending money… in exchange for tito to wear a spankys logo and give spankys a shout out at the post-interview.

  22. I don't know the official numbers but I don't think any of the top guys are struggling to make ends meet. At the very least they can make money on sponsors and celebrity status. There are probably 2 guys on the undercards that don't get paid well inside or out of the ring, but it's their shot.

As far as celebrity status, Jardine definitely has that now. He's not Mike Tyson who is broke but can eat anywhere for free still. But I'll bet he gets a lot of hook ups in Albuquerque.

  23. Well if you remeber the GSP vs. Koscheck fight, KOS got paid around 10k for the fight in which he lost by UD to GSP.

I honestly think that some of these guys are seriously underpaid although I do believe that some of them are paid more than what we see upfront. Not ever fighter gets a PPV cut. One would think that there is really no way for a fighter to survive of making only 10k a fight especially when it comes down to paying for taxes, gym dues, hospital expenses etc. Even fighters making less than that are probably living at home with their parents or live with roomates because there is no way you can survive off of income like that. Even if you fight 5 times a year, and only make 8 or 10k you are still struggling in my eyes.

THe fact is the UFC has alot of power in the MMA world, and most fighters that have fought in smaller events know that this is more money than they will probably make elsewhere. It sucks but you really have to put in your time and at the same time, people have to want to see you fight.

  24. BAM BAMM McLovin says:

    DANA WHITE,

What a cheese ball. The guy walks around with that smile on his face like he owns the world. He is crooked, that is the bottom line. The Fighters train day in and day out to perform at a level entertaining enough for fans to pay for. Once you divide there pay across the three months it takes to prepare for the fight, most these guys are making minimum wage. What the sport needs is competition in the Market. The fighter(s) need to negotiate pay outs based on a fight by fight bases and stay away from Danas” fight for free, fight for me, you are now in the UFC contracts” Dana, being the control freak he is will not allow a fight by fight negotiation and he often refers the fighters as his “Fighters” he is ruling the UFC like a dictatorship and if another organization would step in, pick up some of the great fighters like fedora, treat them right, and pay them well, over time the good fighters will sign with the new organization. This will force Dana to change his business plan or the credibility of the UFC would go down once the fighters cross over to the new organization.

PS I would love to see Dana fight Tito in a cage, I would pay 100.00 PPV.

Also, Lyoto is the most boring fighter in the UFC, he ran from Tito the entire fight, the only credit I will give him is for his take down defense. But his training must consist of running backwards for hours.

  25. FUCK DANA WHITE, i am so sick of this asshole it is stupid. I love the UFC but I hope someday if it all falls apart its because of his dumb ass. I dont even like tito and I would love to watch him kick the shit out of dana. 10 grand for Jardine, what a fucking cocksucker. The guy was what looked like nearly dead on the mat and you pay him ten thousand bucks. What a fucker I hope Karma gets that asshole real soon.

  26. I would love to see anyone for that matter kick Danas ass.

  27. I would love to see anyone kick Danas ass.

  28. JustAGuy says:

Dana White is a classless asshole who is making millions on the broken noses of some great athletes. He is worse than than the boxing promoters (Think Don King) who ripped off fighters and left them broke and homeless. Unless White starts running a respectable organization that properly pays its talent, and properly respects its champions, Dana is going to be sitting in front of a congressional commission, learning about Federal anti-monopoly laws, and he's going to be getting to deal with an employees union that WILL call a walkout before one of his events.

Fair is fair, Dana, and your greed is going to cost you.

  29. Guys,

What you need to understand is… when someone loses the Ultimate Fighter reality show as Jardine did… Dana still offers some of the fighters contracts. He offers them low money contracts for 5-6 fight deals so he can give them a chance to work up the laddar. Now… one of the downfalls of this is that you become the proving ground for strong fighters. You usually are the piece of meat that is tossed to them so they can advance THEIR careers. In Jardine's case.. he's outperformed his contract.. but its STILL A CONTRACT. He didnt have to sign that deal but he wanted IN the UFC even tho he didnt WIN the show. So he takes the risk. His next contract I can guarantee will be for more money.
