UFC 111: Thiago Alves Scratched From Fight With Fitch After Failed CAT Scan

Shocking new, UFC welterweight contender Thiago Alves has been forced to withdraw from his UFC 111 fight with Jon Fitch after failing three CAT – Scans.

The pre-fight scans showed what doctors initially thought was bleeding in the brain, but now think it is a irregularity he was born with.

Alves:

“I was really upset and I’m not even concerned about my health .. I know I’m fine. I’m just sad I can’t fight.”

Dana White:

“This doesn’t make any sense, because he’s too young,” White said. “But it’s something we’re taking very seriously. We’re going to get him to a specialist as soon as we can.” [Yahoo]

This close to the fight the UFC was unable to fight a replacement fighter to face Fitch. The fight will likely be scratched and Kurt Pellegrino vs Fabricio Camoes will be moved up to the PPV.

“Obviously, I’m devastated this fight is not happening, but at the same time, I’m more concerned for Thiago and his health … I’m hoping it’s a clerical error or some kind of mistake or something. This is something that has to be taken seriously because it’s the brain.

“This was a significant fight in my career and it would have put me back in title contention. I haven’t talked to [Alves], but I talked to his coach and it was a surprise to them. It’s a thing with the commission and the doctors.”

Terrible new, lets hope Thiago gets this issue taken care of and return to fighting.

UPDATE:

TMZ has reported Ben “Killa B” Saunders has asked for and granted the fight with Fitch at UFC 111. Saunders was scheduled to fight Jake Ellenberger on the UFC 111 undercard.

*Dana White* confirms the change on Twitter.
