UFC 108: Junior Dos Santos vs Gabriel Gonzaga Likely

Big brawling heavyweights Junior dos Santos (9-1) and Gabriel Gonzaga (11-4) will likely fight at UFC 108 on January 2nd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Nothing is signed, but a verbal agreement is in place for the fight.
Dos Santos is coming off a impressive win over Mirko Cro Cop at UFC 103 “Franklin vs Belfot”. The Brazilian striker has made a quick name for himself in the UFC by racking up wins over Fabricio Werdum, Stefan Struve and Mirko Cro Cop.
Gabriel “Napao” Gonzaga made quick work of UFC newcomer Chris Tuchscherer at UFC 102 “Couture vs Nogueria”. The win tainted, as a low blow by Gonzaga hurt Tuchscherer, who seemed to never fully recover.

I dont get it:
Junior>verdum>gonzaga
How does this fight do Him any good?
I guess there’s no one else right now but Junior should be facing higher competition at this point.

oswald dos santos finishes most of his fights in the first round too. mirko is hard to put away in a round he is one of the best mma strikers of all time. tyson didnt finish everyone in the first round.

first, GG’s chin is not suspect. you try taking a punch from carwin and see what time you wake up. second, dos santos had a hard time with mirko because mirko was running a marathon during that fight. he looked scared! IMO, dos santos will soon be competing for that HW title. him vs brock would be real interesting because we haven’t seen much of junior dos santos’s ground game. we do know GG has one though.

Well we havent seen Santos ground game yet. If this goes to the ground I give the advantage to Gabe Gonzaga He is a Black Belt in BJJ. Gabes plan’ I bet is get this fight to the ground and Submit him or GnP.

im pretty sure they are both black belts in bjj but gonzaga is a world champ theres a big difference. i have to agree if the fight hit the ground id give it to GG. both of these guys have fight ending KO power so it could go either way. the more i think about it im pretty stoked for this fight and dont know who’s gunna win.

you get belts for time in BJJ unless I’m mistaken.
meaning that the belt plays no part in how good you are.
GG is a better BJJ

GG is for sure better in bjj he’s one of the best bjj guys in mma in the heavyweight division. a belt color doesnt mean much to me. ive seen whitebelts beat black belts and everythign in between. ive seen schools where people earn the color of their belts by competing and others by just memorizing the moves and phrases. Frank mir was given his belt when he broke tim sylvias arm. im sure if dos santos is a black belt under the nog brothers he is legit as fuck on the ground. the nog brothers wouldnt just give out a belt. after seeing wagney fabiano be triangled in that WEC a week ago i wouldnt be surprised if either gonzaga or santos got subbed by the other. the thing about mma is u can sub people a lot better than you by hitting them in the face and stunning them then subbing them.

Yeah Derek, GG’s chin is suspect. Randy rocked with a jab, Werdum tKO’d him and Carwin KO’d him with a jab. So shut the fuck up…

dos santos is not a black belt or even a brown, he has about 3 years in bjj i think . gabe should win this dos santos still needs some more time to develop i think he only has 2 yrs in mma.

good to know roy! i thought he was a black belt thanks for clearing that up then GG should have a huge advantage ont he ground if he cant get him down. it will be interesting to see how dos santos’s sprawl is and his ground. he has yet to prove either of those.
