TUF 10 Finale: Jon Jones Seeks No Contest Ruling

Jon Jones management intends to ask the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) to over turn his DQ loss at The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale.

“Let’s be clear, Jon is not ‘unhappy’ he feels as all things happen for a reason. We are protesting the L because we felt that Jon’s opponent could not effectively communicate why he could not continue. The rules state that an intentional foul and that the fighter cannot continue based on injury sustained from the foul. Hamill could not continue due to a broken shoulder. Jon should have been deducted a point for the accidental illegal blow. Matt should have been treated like we treat the Brazilians and given 5 minutes to regroup and offered a translator so the ref could make the right call and understand Matt could not continue due to his shoulder injury not the blow. This should be a NC for both fighters but not a loss. Hamill continued with an injured Shoulder and only complained once the action was stopped (warrior) but the fight was stopped based on the shoulder injury in our opinion.” [UG]

The Disqualification ruling marked Jones with his first ever mixed martial arts loss. He might actually have a chance, Hamill admitted that he was unable to fight after breaking is shoulder when Jones took him to the mat.

  1. i hope it gets over turned to a no contest i said that at the time. hamill didnt win that fight u can take the win from jones but come on it wasnt a loss.

  2. should be a No contest i think

  3. hamill didn't win i agree. but you cant rain down elbows like that. it just shows that he doesn't watch enough or know enough about the sport he's competing. other than that jones is a bad ass. but it was illegal and he lost.

  4. should be overturned to a no contest for sure what a horrible call

  5. The Ref deducted a point from Jones, then looked at Hamill and asked him if he was done, which Hamill replied yes. Therefore it should be a win to Jon Jones via verbal submission.

He was already punished for the foul, then Matt Hamill decided he wanted out. Should be a TKO for Jones, or at the very least a no contest.

  6. matt hamill had his eyes filled with blood and cant hear lol he didnt even know the ref was there he was just trying to survive

  7. come on now yall quit haten on Hamill he cant help it if he is def. I think the judges felt sorry for Hamill,I think the judges went by emotions instead of rules. I agree they sould have gave it to Jones. I belive Jones is going to go a long ways in the MMA world. A LONG WAYS!

  8. Shogun of Harlem says:

i would like to see this guy fight anderson silva

  9. Jones wouldnt have a chance against Silva, the guy is so methodicle and very relaxed while Jones is a wild fighter, you cant win against Silva you either give him respect and ease into the fight or you come strait at him but either way you end up getting KTFO or submitted, you forget Silva is a pretty big middlewieght himself as that is how he can jump to LHW at times.

Now i disagree with the no contest, while Hamil may not have been able to fight it was more due to the illegal blows that knocked him unconscious than his shoulder injury, i mean come on he kept on moving and defending himself up until those illegal blows, so in my opinion the ruling should stand. Although Hamil wasnt going to win the fight by any other means, the law states that if an illegal blow causes the fighter to not continue than its a DQ now if he hurts himself in a fight and cant continue than that is were the no contest comes into play. But since the illegal blows happened and rendered him unconscious that is the correct ruling.

  10. Sherdog.com-Nice idea, and an unblemished record is prettier, but it fails on several levels: one, it was Jones himself who began muddying the conclusion with the elbows. Two, you cannot ask a commission to retroactively stop a fight and declare a No Contest earlier than the recorded finish. If Jones is fixated on the idea his slam ended the fight, he must be shocked that Hamill continued to deflect enough blows after the takedown to keep the clock going. (This Zombie Matt Hamill, clearly fighting past his demise, is a wonder.)

Hamill fought on after the slam; he could not continue once Jones hammered his face with downward elbows. Perhaps referee Steve Mazzagatti provided an ego-saving out in halting the fight, but that was — once again — a product of Jones having a brain hiccup. If the situation is ambiguous, the benefit of the doubt should go to the fouled fighter. In not playing fair, you give up the right to call a foul.
