Thiago Alves “I wanna get this belt and bring it to Brazil”
By CagE | November 4, 2008
Thiago Alves:
“I knew I’d have a hard fight, but I always go for a knockout. I knew he was tough, but I didn’t knew he’d resist that much, it surprised me. He’s a great competitor and made the fight even better, bore beautiful … I think it was better, because he defeated (Diego) Sanchez and he’s tougher than him, a better athlete. He’s a great fighter, better ranked, and I think it was perfect”.
“I wanna get this belt and bring it to Brazil. They said that the winner of this fight would get a title shot, and now I have the option to wait (after Georges St. Pierre’s fight with BJ Penn) or do another fight, it’s my choice, but I think I’ll wait … It’s gonna be a tough fight, and I’ll be there watching it. I don’t know who’s gonna win it, but I fight both. I’ll get this belt and the next onw who comes, with all respect, will fall”
“I go with 171 pounds at the weight-ins, and then I go to the fight with 198, 199 pounds”
UFC welterweight contender Thiago Alves comments to Tatame.com about his successful win over Josh Koscheck and being patient to get his shot with Georges St. Pierre.

Doesn’t he have to weigh in @ 170 for a title fight?

So he is saying he loses about 28lbs and can gain it all back within a 24hrs? Wow thats alot i hear of gaining 15 maybe 20lbs but not 28..if thats true than shit what a bad ass and he is lucky he can do that.

that does seem like a huge amount to be able to put back on in one day, 10lbs is no problem for them and even 15 seems like alot 28 almost seems impossible.

Yes Blugras but they allow fighters to be 1 lb over in case the scale might be slightly off. It’s been like that for years in boxing. If you’re a 205 fight you can weigh in anywhere from 187 – 206. Obviously if they go under then they should fight at 185 and if they go over then they just didn’t make weight which looks bad for them and if it’s a title fight and they win they won’t get the belt.

28-29 lbs by Thiago is ridiculous, then again he’s already been busted using drugs to lose the weight, which could explain why he is able to put it back on easier. Thiago has also gone into fights overweight in the past, which is very unprofessional.
Non title fights they allow you to be 1 pound over, title fights require competitors to make exact weight or below.
