steve – i understand what you’re trying to say. you don’t mind ground game or wrestlers if they do something on the ground. this dude just isn’t that good…and he got finished. so no big deal. it’s over and he lost. who cares? but to say that you don’t think wrestlers should be in the sport defeats the purpose of the reason why the sport was formed in the first place.

it’s called MMA, which stands for “mixed martial arts” just so you know. that means that either there is a “mix” of the different martial arts in the cage by different opponents with different disciplines or they’re mixed together by any one particular opponent. Back in the day, you had strict wrestlers vs strict jitz vs strict karate. At the end of the day, the most successful ones were either able to dominate their opponents because of their utter mastery of their craft and fighting skills (Roycie), or they have multiple strong disciplines where they can scrap, submit, or wrestle (Machida). Randy Couture didn’t know shit when he came in other than wrestling, but he’s adapted to the sport and became a hall-of-famer.

I, for one, don’t like to see any fighter that doesn’t have a mix. You bitch about the lay-and-pray wrestlers, but what about the Kimbo types. If you get him on the ground it’s over. That’s just as annoying to me as the wrestler who can’t strike well.
