Decimal Controversy: Nick Diaz’s lawyer releases texts from UFC & Quebec officials

Nick Diaz’s camp plans to file a complaint with Quebec’s athletic commission in the wake of a UFC 158 weigh-in controversy, according to the fighter’s representative, Jonathan Tweedale.

As detailed in a video posted online after the March 16 event, UFC executive Michael Mersch informed Diaz and his camp just prior to the weigh-in that the Quebec commission would not take decimal points into account, meaning that as long as both men weighed in under 171 pounds, they would be considered to weigh 170. Mersch also informed Diaz that he and Georges St. Pierre might be given an extra hour to make weight if necessary.

In a recent statement released to MMAFighting.com, commission rep Joyce Tremblay reiterated that decimal points are not considered when weighing fighters in the Canadian province:

“I wish to inform you that, during UFC 158, no contestants exceeded the weight determined in their contracts,” Quebec commission representative Joyce Tremblay said in an email to MMAFighting. “Currently, the Régie does take into consideration the maximum weight determined by contract when it carries out the weight-ins before a bout. However, our regulation on combat sports does not take decimals into account. Their consideration is a question of interpretation likely to be debated between the two parties under contract.”

Georges St-Pierre Cast as Villain in Captain America: The Winter Soldier

UFC champ Georges St-Pierre lands role in ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

The movie is a sequel to the 2011 hit “Captain America: The First Avenger,” which grossed $369 million worldwide. In addition to St-Pierre, the sequel stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson and others.

As for his UFC career, the filming for the movie will not interfere with GSP’s fighting schedule. St-Pierre (24-2 MMA, 18-2 UFC), who’s currently on vacation following his UFC 158 win over Nick Diaz earlier this month, is next scheduled to fight top contender Johny Hendricks (15-1 MMA, 10-1 UFC). However, a date hasn’t been set for their title fight.

UFC 158: Georges St-Pierre vs. Nick Diaz

Kevin and George from Uncut Sports “weigh in” on the main event for the upcoming UFC 158 event.

This might be one of the most anticipated fights in UFC history, and it’s finally going to happen, well maybe I shouldn’t say that. If GSP can mimic what Condit did against Diaz, then he’ll win. Diaz punches in bunches, and sometimes that’s difficult to do against a man as athletic and quick as GSP.

Carlos Condit created a blueprint to beat Diaz, and Benson Henderson used that blueprint to beat Nick’s younger brother Nate. The Diaz brothers have incredible hands, but they don’t knock you out with one shot. They methodically chip away at your ass, until you fall down. If you can get in and out, you can avoid this. However, I think the Diaz camp will take a long look at what Condit did, and realize that GSP could easily follow that formula to victory. Don’t be surprise if Diaz lets it go to the ground and works for a submission.
