UFC 158 Highlights with St. Pierre versus Diaz Press Conference Video Exclusive

UFC 158 will be on March 16, 2013 at the Bell Centre at Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Headlined by a welterweight title fight between Georges St. Pierre and Nick Diaz; UFC is busy promoting this event with several marketing strategies lined up.

If you haven’t seen UFC 158 promotional video and highlights, then you might want to check it out at YouTube. The marketing video was supposed to kick off with a press conference featuring the welterweights themselves. However, defending champion Georges St Pierre was quite unimpressed that former Strikeforce title-holder Nick Diaz was not present at the said press conference to promote their bout. But fans need not worry; pictures of Diaz came out as he went about Montreal enjoying the festivities.

Checking out their stats, local Georges “Rush” St. Pierre is a 31 year old welterweight from St. Isidore, Quebec. He is not just a crowd favorite because he is from Quebec but because of his impressive professional MMA record with 23 wins and only 2 losses. His last bout against Carlos Condit was his 10th consecutive win via unanimous decision at UFC 154 headline fight in November 2012. He has defeated superb fighters like Jake Shields, Josh Koscheck,  B.J. Penn,  Jon Fitch, Matt Serra, Matt Hughes and Dan Hardy to name a few.

And a glance at St. Pierre’s opponent; Nick Diaz is challenging Rush for the title with 26 wins, 8 losses and 1 no contest. He is a 29 year old welterweight from Stockton, California, USA. His last fight was a loss via unanimous decision to Carlos Condit at UFC 143 headline match in February 2012. Before this loss however, he enjoyed an 11 consecutive winning streak since 2008.

UFC 158 will not just be filled with St. Pierre versus Diaz fury but with other great fighters as well. Anderson Silva versus St. Pierre Matchup Soon?

Probably the two most controversial pound-for-pound MMA fighters will fight each other the next time they meet at the Octagon. And then, maybe they won’t be. Fans are already speculating an Anderson Silva versus Georges St. Pierre matchup soon as St. Pierre recently punished Carlos Condit at UFC 154 at the Bell Centre in Montreal in November 17.

But on the bright side, MMA fans are hoping that UFC president Dana White would consider the match between these two impressive fighters and their prayers were answered. White actually wants the event to happen and he is chancing on a date in May or around May next year.

White was interviewed by Fox Sports and he mentions: “It’s the No.1 best pound-for-pound fighter in the world against the No. 2 best pound-for-pound fighter in the world. It’s a big fight. We think people want to see it and we think the guys want to do it, so we’ll do it. They will fight, and it will probably be in May or around May.”

So let’s review Silva and St. Pierre’s stats before anything else:

Georges “Rush” St. Pierre is a 31 year old from St. Isidore, Quebec, Canada. He is a welterweight with 23 wins and 2 losses in his professional MMA career. Rush’s win against Carlos Condit was a revival after his last fight in April 2011 when he won against Jake Shields via unanimous decision. His recent fight was his 10th consecutive win since August 2007. He only tasted defeat twice in the hands of Matt Serra in UFC 69 Shootout in 2007 and against Matt Hughes in UFC The War of ’04 in October 2004.

Anderson “The Spider” Silva on the other hand is a 37 year old middleweight fighter from Curitiba, Parana, Brazil. He has 33 wins and 4 losses in his career. His last win was against Stephan Bonnar in a headline fight at UFC 153 via TKO. This was his 17 consecutive win since his loss to Yushin Okami at Rumble on the Rock 8 in January 2006. He is one of the most respected MMA fighters in the business and fans all over the world will surely look forward to this ultimate fight.

Georges St. Pierre Still UFC Welterweight Champion

The headliner for UFC 154 in Bell Centre, Montreal, Canada is a fight between Georges St. Pierre against Carlos Condit. But after a long 5 rounds it was clear that the welterweight belt still belongs to Georges St. Pierre.

In round one, St. Pierre started the fight with inside leg kicks that moved Condit to the sides but Condit was able to circle away after giving the champ a short punch. Another move causes Condit to come back to the fence but he lands a jab on St. Pierre and the champ counters with several punches that spin Condit flat on the ground. Even before the first round ended, Condit already sustained a cut above his eye brow which was a result of St. Pierre’s punches and attempts to put him down.

In round two St. Pierre again dominated Condit with all the judges voting on his expertise. But Condit was not a passive fighter in the ring, he also managed to counter with a one-two and a short shot on St. Pierre but the latter is quick to counter most of his punches. St. Pierre even managed to come up with a leg kick that sends Condit down. St. Pierre was seen with a cut under his left eye from Condit’s elbows at the end of the round.

Round three however was Condit’s time to shine as he was seen kicking St. Pierre’s temple with his shin, a barrage of punches and elbows that caused the champ to change his style? The two locked in a battle of dominance as St. Pierre threatens Condit with a waistlock. In under a minute, St. Pierre decided it was time for a takedown move but was not rewarded with success.

In round 4 St. Pierre was again the man. The round opened with Condit giving St. Pierre a high kick but a series of events that first dominated by Condit began to move into St. Pierre’s advantage. Condit tries a triangle but St. Pierre was quick to respond and regain his lead. The round ended with the right side of Condit’s face covered in blood.

In the final round, St. Pierre was still the clear winner as he gave excellent shot combinations and hard punches. Condit on the other hand responded by trying some offensive attacks but to no avail. The round finished and St. Pierre was officially declared as the reigning UFC welterweight champion.
