EliteXC 3: Renegade

Date:

November 10, 2007

Venue:

America Bank Center, Corpus Christi, Texas

Broadcast:

Live on Showtime

Nick Diaz vs. KJ Noons

KJ Noons will take on UFC veteran Nick Diaz in the main event of EliteXC 3: Renegade, on Saturday night. Noons is a stand up fighter who moonlights as a professional boxer. Noons has no wins by submission, so I expect him to want to stay on his feet. Nick Diaz will probably try to stand up and bang with Noons, but will quickly take it to the ground if he gets in trouble. Who knows we might see another Nick Diaz Gogoplata submission in this one.

Prediction: Nick Diaz by Submission.

Kimbo Slice vs. Bo Cantrell

Bo Cantrell was a last minute replacement for Mike Bourke who dropped out with an injury. Cantrell fought two weeks ago and was submitted by Brad Imes by Gogoplata submission. A lot of people underestimate Kimbo, he is a powerful striker who seems dedicated to MMA. Bo Cantrell has lost his last four fights to lower level opponents and I don’t see his losing streak ending with Kimbo. I hope to see this fight go to the ground, so we can see what Kimbo is made of.

Prediction: Kimbo Slice by TKO/KO

Jake Shields vs. Mike Pyle

This should of been the main event, but Mike Pyle refused to fight for the title. He is saying that EliteXC has not promoted him as a top fighter in their organization. Also he seemed jealous of the way EliteXC promotes Gina Carano over himself and will not resign with EliteXC if the situation doesn’t change.

This is a woman! I’m being put behind a woman to be on the undercard. I don’t have time for that man! That, right there gives me the idea that they don’t…and some of the people they chose to promote can’t even stay out of f—ing jail long enough to make their fight. I don’t have time to be put behind people like that! Not to take anything away from Gina, Gina’s my girl, but right now this is a man’s sport.

MMAFightLine

Too bad both these fighter would be a good welterweight champion for EliteXC. Both fighters are well rounded, although I give Shields the small advantage in stand up. I cant count out Mike Pyle, he has been improving greatly since he started training with Xtreme Couture.

Prediction: Shields by TKO/KO

EliteXC News: Kimbo, Weight Divisions and Mike Pyle

gary shaw

EliteXC president Gary Shaw held a telephone press conference Wednesday to promote EliteXC 3 Renegade. Shaw addressed issues about Kimbo’s next opponent and the future of EliteXC. Here are some key points I found interesting in the audio of the press conference.

EliteXC press conference key points

  • Kimbo Slice will be fighting Bo Cantrell on November 10, after Mike Bourke was forced out due to injury. Bo Cantrell (10-10) lost last Saturday at KOTC to Brad Imes by Gogoplata submission.
  • EliteXC will change its weight divisions to 140 lbs., 150 lbs., 160 lbs., 170 lbs., 185 lbs., 205 lbs., 265 lbs., to increase fighter safety. Shaw stated that he will be meeting with Athletic Commissions to make the weight divisions universally recognized.
  • Shaw, would like to sign Fedor Emilianenko and Randy Couture, but would never get involved with any fighter under contract.
  • Shaw confirmed, The fight between Mike Pyle and Jake Shields will not be a title fight. Pyle is not happy with his situation at EliteXC and will leave to be a free agent after his fight on November 10.
  • Antonio Silva is still trying to get medically cleared for his fight.
  • EliteXC is definitely interested in signing Josh Barnett.

EliteXC News: Mike Bourke Forced Off Fight With Kimbo Slice

mike bourkekimbo slice

According to ProElite, Mike Bourke was forced off his fight with Kimbo Slice, due to a broken left clavicle (collar bone). Bourke was set to fight Kimbo at EliteXC 3: Renegade in Corpus Christi, TX on November 10.

He had been in training for a total of 10 weeks at the time of his injury and claims he’s lost 45 pounds.

With 10 days left till the fight, EliteXC should have no problem finding a replacement for Mike “The Rhino” Bourke (8-11-1).
