According to a report on MMAMania, Jake Shields (21-4–1) will defend his EliteXC welterweight tile against former UFC and WEC fighter John Alessio (23-11) at “EliteXC Showdown” on Sept. 20 from the PIT in Albuquerque, NM.

Alessio is coming off a submission win over Pete Sprat at Banner Promotions “Night of Combat” on June 20th. After winning three strait fights in the WEC, he dropped a DQ (knee to downed opponent) loss to Brock Larson at WEC 33 earlier this year.

Shields, the Cesar Gracie Jiu-Jitsu trained fighter, recently defeated Nick “The Goat” Thompson by impressive guillotine choke submission at “EliteXC Unfinished Business”.

Paul “Semtex” Daley Returns To EliteXC on Sept. 20, Title Fight With Shields Next?

According to MMAWeekly, top British welterweight prospect Paul “Semtex” Daley returns to EliteXC on Sept. 20 taking on an undisclosed undefeated IFL fighter.

“I will be fighting Sept. 20 in New Mexico, most likely against an undefeated ex-IFL fighter who cannot be named yet….I’m really looking forward to it.

The former Cage Rage and Cage Warriors welterweight champion is looking to get his hands on EliteXC’s welterweight champion Jake Shields belt if he could get past his next opponent at EliteXC “Showdown”.

“ProElite have been awesome considering, and I went against their wishes in fighting for Cage Warriors in the U.K., but I was going through a bad time and it made sense to have the comeback in the U.K,”

“Right now I’m training my ass off. I’m always a slow starter in training camp, but I’m in my rhythm now….I leave for Holland this weekend for two weeks of training camp out there with Mike’s Gym and Melvin Manhoef before going to the U.S.A. and training with my secret weapon.”

“I beat this guy (on Sept. 20), I will no doubt be fighting for the EliteXC title next!”
