Dana White Will Help “Cyborg” Santos Lose Weight as New Ultimate Fighter 17 Commercial Airs

The outspoken UFC President, Dana White is willing to hire the help of trainer and fitness author Mike Dolce to manage Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos. He is not accepting excuses from the fighter that she cannot make bantamweight weight limit to be able to fight Ronda Rousey.

He said that the only way that Santos will be able to fight at UFC is in the bantamweight division. When Dana White was interviewed he reiterated that: “She can get to this weight. We have an expert who can help you lose weight in a healthy way. We have Mike Dolce, who has wrestlers lose weight and still feel good and it’s all about your diet. He is 100 percent ready to work with her and will not cost anything to Cris… Cyborg needs to get on the boat. If she wants to fight in the UFC, she’ll have to fight this category of 135 pounds.” White also added a special bonus: “The stupidest thing about it is that she has Tito Ortiz as his manager.”

And still at UFC, the new The Ultimate Fighter 17 commercial has been released. This is for the January 22 premier of their new season. The reason why this season is very special is that it will feature light heavyweight Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen; these impressive fighters will coach this season’s new set of fighters and not to mention will fight for the light heavyweight title in April.

UFC President Dana White has even commented that other fighters were scared out of their wits to fight these two hard hitting fighters.

Jon “Bones” Jones is a premier light heavyweight from Rochester, New York, USA and has a superb 17 I win and only one loss which is under the hands of Matt Hamill way back in The Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale in 2009. Chael Sonnen on the other hand is from West Linn, Oregon, USA with a 27 wins, 12 losses and 1 draw in his record. His last fight was a loss against Anderson Silva in a headline fight in UFC 148 in July 2012.

These two will square it off at UFC 159 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on April 27, 2013.

Chael Sonnen’s Pressure is His Greatest Strength

Season 17 of “The Ultimate Fighter” will be twice as exciting and twice the muscle as Chael Sonnen and Jon Jones coach opposite each other on the reality television show. The two great fighters will soon meet each other at the Octagon on April 27, 2013.

Jon Jones’ coach Mike Winkeljohn was partially involved in the decision to turn down Jones’ fight against Sonnen when UFC President Dana White scheduled a short notice fight. Jones was supposed to fight Dan Henderson but the later withdrew the fight because of an injury.

Winkeljohn was recently interviewed at the Sherdog Radio Network’s “Rewind” Show where the coach discussed the matchup, answered questions about Jones’ training and why they did not considered the fight in September.

Winkeljohn remarked when he was asked about their decision to turn down the fight against Sonnen: “I guess looking back at it; we didn’t know the whole card was getting cancelled. If we should have known the whole card would get cancelled, that might have changed the decision. I honestly thought Jon will beat Chael no matter what, but it was one of those decisions that, at the moment, fight him now and its 85, 90 percent. I’m that confident.” Winkeljohn added: “We hadn’t been working on that kind of guy, that kind of aggressive wrestler with a hard left hand. We had been working on Dan Henderson, who’s totally different. He throws a big overhand right. He’s great inside the clinch with his Greco. He’s kind of a different fighter, so it just didn’t make sense.”

When asked how their team finally made the decision to withdraw: “Things would have changed if we had more information, and I think Greg (Jackson) made his right decision, that he thought it was best just to wait… we all sat down and within 20 minutes we had that decision made.”

When asked about Jones’ training: “it’s time to develop new tools and that’s what Jon has done since he has come to camp. I’m real blessed that this young man listens. He went from being mostly a wrestler to now he’s turning over to become a great striker in the division. He’s almost there. He’s almost at that Anderson Silva place where he’s going to start getting those one-punch, one-kick knockouts.” The beaming coach even added: “Just wait. You haven’t seen anything yet.”

On Sonnen: “He’s relentless. Pressure. He’s always going to be on you… that pressure he comes to the table with.”

Greg Jackson on ‘TUF 17’

Hot news from UFC, management has announced that light heavyweight Jon Jones will defend his title against nemesis Chael Sonnen in April next year. This is after coaching against Sonnen on Season 17 of “The Ultimate Fighter” on FX.

To recall, Jones declined a fight with Sonnen with just 8 days notice for UFC 151. Jones was initially billed to fight Dan Henderson at September 1 but the later withdrew because of a medical injury. UFC cancelled UFC 151 and rebooked the champion against Vitor Belfort at UFC 152. Jones was able to defend his title against Belfort.

Jones and Sonnen however, will finally meet but it is not in the Octagon where they are used to. “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 17 will shoot and both fighters will be coaching against each other. Greg Jackson was quick to provide info about the expected matchup: “I certainly don’t think it would be a wise strategy to get Jon really mad, but that’s something Sonnen will have to decide for himself. When you get into Jon’s face, that’s definitely when he performs the best for sure.”

Jackson was interviewed on the Sherdog Radio Network’s “Cheap Seats” program. He adds: “[Jones is] very articulate and he gets right to the point. It’s just that trash-talking isn’t usually his thing, but Jon is going to be one of the greatest fighters ever. That’s my belief. He’s something special and he’s going to be at the top of the heap.”

Sonnen on the other hand, Sonnen is known for his pre-fight banter, Jackson believe that the experience of exchanging words with Sonnen will only make Jones stronger. He further mentions about how Jones is in his training: “One thing about Jon Jones is that he is incredibly mentally tough. I think he’s going to learn from it and grow from it. You never want to underestimate Jon, because he is so mentally strong and very smart. I think it’s going to make him tougher, especially mentally, to have to deal with all the stuff that will come along with the show.”

Jackson describes his role during the taping of “The Ultimate Fighter” he says the will play a similar role he had in the past; one of his prized fighters also landed a coaching gig on the UFC reality series. Rashad Evans and Georges St. Pierre were also the same boat and have managed to shine in the series.
