It’s A Whole New Fight with Cain Velasquez as He Faces Antonio Silva at UFC 160

Cain Velasquez was interviewed via conference call to promote his next match against Antonio Silva which is scheduled on May 25, 2013. He has beat the impressive Brazilian before when they met at UFC 146 in May 2012 via technical knockout in just 3 minutes and 36 seconds of round one but this does not mean that he will take for granted their second match.

When asked about his expectations and preparations for this match, he replied: “This is a whole new fight. Obviously, we saw what Bigfoot can do in his past two fights.” He added: “You can’t take him lightly. He’s a tough competitor and really dangerous in the Octagon. I don’t see it as anything less than a hard, gruelling fight. That is what I am expecting.”

When Velasquez was asked about the most important thing about his fights: “To me, [defending the belt] is the most important thing, just hold onto it. This is the position I want to be in. I have to go out there and perform.” He also added: “As far as motivation, it’s there. A rematch is what it is. We fought before and you learn from that fight, but you can’t think too much of it.”

Cain Velasquez is a 30 year old heavyweight fighter from Salinas, California, USA. He holds an impressive record of 11 wins and only one loss. His latest win was against Junior dos Santos in a headline fight last December 2012 where he won via unanimous decision. This was their second matchup and during the first, dos Santos had the upper hand where he knocked out Velasquez in less than 4 minutes of round 1. This was Velasquez’s only loss. He has won over spectacular fighters like Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Ben Rothwell, Denis Stojnic and Brad Morris to name a few.

Antonio “Pezao” Silva on the other hand is a 33 year old fighter from Campina Grande, Paraiba, Brazil. He has a total of 18 wins and only 4 losses in his professional career. He has recently won over strong fighters like Alistair Overeem at UFC 156 and Travis Browne at UFC on FX 5. He has lost to Velasquez in 2012 via technical knockout.

UFC 160 will be on May 25, 2013 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

UFC 160 Fever!

UFC 160 is still a long way away but fans just can’t wait to see Cain Velasquez and Antonio Silva pound each other as they face each other once more. The two faced each other at UFC 146 at the Dos Santos versus Mir event in May 2012 and this second encounter promises to be an action filled –event as Velasquez aims to defeat Silva and gain the upper hand on May 26, 2013 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada, United States.

Lately, UFC announced another pair that will grace the MGM arena for UFC 160. It’s Dennis Bermudez versus Max Holloway for a featherweight fiasco. Both fighters are fresh from their own wins and both are expecting to win at UFC 160 to improve their impressive stats. Let us look how these two will match:

Dennis “The Menace” Bermudes is a 26-year old featherweight fighter from Saugerties, New York, United States. He has a 10 win and 3 losses professional MMA record. His last fight was a split decision win over Matt Grice at UFC 157 – Rousey versus Carmouche in February 2013. If he wins over Holloway in UFC 160, this will be his fourth consecutive win since May 2012. But it was not always roses for Bermudes; before his consecutive wins, he suffered a back to back to back loss from September 2010 to December 2011. He was defeated by Diego Brandao in his first UFC appearance and by Jordan Rinaldi in PFC and in the hands of Drew Fickett at Shine Fights.

Max “Blessed” Holloway on the other hand is a 21-year old featherweight from Waianae, Hawaii, United States. He has an impressive record of 7 wins and only one loss in his career. His last win was against Leonard Garcia in UFC 155 Dos Santos versus Velasquez 2 via split decision in December 2012. Before this win he was able to defeat Justin Lawrence and Pat Schilling. His only loss was in the hands of Dustin Poirier in UFC 143 Diaz versus Condit in February 2012 as Poirier leashed out a decisive submission triangle arm bar move.

Bermudes and Holloway will face each other in May along with other fighters like Junior dos Santos versus Mark Hunt, Glover Teixeira versus James Te Huna, Gray Maynard versus T.J. Grant, Gunnar Nelson versus Mike Pyle, Donald Cerrone versus K.J. Noons and Robert Wittaker versus Colton Smith to name a few.

UFC 156: Jose Aldo defeats Frankie Edgar, and Bigfoot Sliva KO’s Overeem!

UFC 156 was a night that all Brazilian MMA fighters should be proud of, it saw all four Brazilians on the main card walking away with victories.

In the only bout that did not feature a Brazilian fighter, Jose Benavidez used his quickness and conditioning to win a decision over Ian McCall in their flyweight match up. Next up was BJJ specialist Demian Maia squaring off against UFC veteran Jon Fitch. From the start of this match Maia dominated, quickly rushing Fitch gaining control, and having Fitch battle to prevent from being submitted or choked out. It was Maia’s third fight as a welter, and he improved to 3-0 in the class, while also proving to everyone that he is a new face to reckoned with at 170lbs.

One of the most anticipated bouts of the night, was Alistair Overeem vs. Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva. Most oddmakers had Overeem as the heavy favorite, and many were tuning in to see the Dutch striker waltz through Bigfoot, it proved to be just the opposite. Overeem acted cocky throughout the bout, leaving his hands down and showing no respect for Bigfoots striking ability. In contrast, Bigfoot Silva was more of the aggressor putting together great combinations that eventually led to him scoring a KO of Overeem in round 2. Former Light-heavyweight champion Rashad Evans lost a decision to Lil Nog.

Many talked about how great Nog’s hands were, and that they shouldn’t be taken lightly by Evans. Evans danced throughout much of the fight, landing punches that were more like love taps on Lil Nog. In contrast, Nog established his range and used a still jab to keep Evans off balance at times. The judges all saw it going Nog’s way with his significant strikes out weighing Evans. In the Main Event, Aldo put his belt on the line against former Lightweight Champion Frankie Edgar. Aldo dominated the first two rounds, but Edgar started to turn it on the last two.

When the smoke cleared two judges had it 49-46 Aldo, while one had it 48-47 Aldo. Jose Aldo is quickly becoming one of the world’s best pound for pound MMA fighters.
