Strikeforce: Fedor vs Dan Henderson

According to Fedors management team M-1 Global. Fedor has agreed to face Dan Henderson sometime this summer [ESPN.co.uk]

“He agreed. He’s ready to fight…With his progress from training, I can only think he’ll be back the way he was. If he doesn’t win, he’ll make his own decisions like he does now. If he stops, he stops. But if he wins, I think he’ll continue fighting.”

  1. nice! smart move on fedors part. this will be a great fight.

  2. Why does fedor get a title shot after 2 consecutive losses?

  3. Iron Monkey says:

Because he's Fedor and we'll pay to see it.

  4. I agree with Iron Monkey. Unless you can name a LHW in Strikeforce that would be a bigger draw?

But I've never seen Fedor fight lean so that will be a spectacle in itself.

  5. Forget it…its at a catch weight. Fedor still needs to get lean for this fight. Whats the point of a professional athlete carrying around fat in their midsection.

  6. Iron Monkey says:

Looks like he's not going to make Fedor lose any weight. I think Hendo should push for a 205 fight. We're still talking about Fedor. I don't want to say it…alright I will (and I train BJJ)…the armbar was lucky. Lucky for Verdum that is that Fedor gave it to him. Easily corrected. As the Gracies pointed out in their breakdown of Silva vs Fedor, he got dominated by Silva's weight and strength because he didn't execute basic mount defense. I see Fedor getting better from both those fights. But Hendo is not going to dominate Fedor with strength or weight(it'll be wrestling technique only if it happens) and he's not going to armbar him either. I see a strength/weight advantage working for Fedor here. I think it's a good fight for Fedor and a bad fight for Hendo…but I've been wrong before…

  7. Great points. I'm not a trainer but I've fought and trained in MMA for a few years. What saw in Fedor/Wierdum is a that Fedor didn't expect the double setup. Triangle choke to armbar and back.

I thought Fedor was too comfortable with the triangle then..and armbar which is not as easily defendable.

I'd like to think I've watched every Fedor and Hendo fight there is on film, but I can't call this fight at all. I really hope it happens. But if Fedor loses he will retire for sure. So that's a pretty bad outcome.

  8. Kung Fu Panda says:

I like Fedor but he has to really get serious and drop to 205. He should win this one. The only real weapon that Hendo brings is a his powerful right. He really does not take fighter down…so Fedor should beat him- but even if he does- What then? He needs to commit to 205 and get there. The other point that I want to make that he needs to start training with some of the best guys out there. Yes, the triangle to armbar is a crazy, super advanced move that even most pro's won't be able to pull and yes Silva outweighed him, but he is not doing anything to help himself by training with the best. That is why pro fighters now haussive to one of three things- 1. Join a top notch school like American Top Team, Black Haus (sp?), or Jackson's so that you train with top guys and have top coaches, 2. Combine forces with top guys to form a new school such as the Nogs, Machida, silva and Aldo did with Black Haus, or 3. Go to the best guys in the world and train with them like a GSP. Meanwhile, fedor is doing neither- just training in Russia- that is not going to make him that much better.

  9. Iron Monkey says:

Kung Fu Panda, I think you're right. He needs to do all those things to get back to top ranking. I'm hoping he's going to 205 because I just don't see him being relevant at HW anymore. I think both his losses reflect exactly what you're saying about his training partners. He needs to train against guys at Werdum's level to be ready for that level of technique. I leave my arm behind all day against white and blue belts because I know they'll go for the triangle and I'll pass. It doesn't work at the higher levels. He's only going to learn that by training against top level black belts.

  10. Nichole Lesniak says:

I've always thought he was a small HW. I wish he would've made the drop sooner. Now it looks borderline desperate. I just hope he succeeds at 205 so now all the "I told Fedor wasn't the best in the world" whining can stop.
