Strikeforce: Alistair Overeem Expected To Defend Title In 2009

Strikeforces heavyweight champion Alstair Overeem is expected to defend his belt sometime in 2009.

Strikeforce executive Mike Afromowitz told MMAWeekly Radio recently, they believe Overeem will head back to the United States to defend his belt this year.

“We’re looking to get him back pretty soon. I’d say more likely than not, you’re going to see him defend his title this year,”

Since winning the title over Paul Buentello in late 2007, Overeem has mainly been in Japan punching balls for the K-1 DREAM promotion. The explosive dutch striker will bring some great competition to Strikeforces narrow roster of top heavyweights.
