Sokoudjou, Set His Sights On Shogun
By CagE | May 30, 2008
In a recent interview with FightHype, Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou calls out former PRIDE fighter Mauricio “Shogun” Rua, going so far as to say he has been ducking him for years.
Sokoudjou is coming off a TKO victory over Kazuhiro Nakamura at UFC 84 “Ill Will. He also holds a win over current UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira’s little bro Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.
PC: I know you've been telling me that you want to fight Shogun since the Pride days. You called him out again after your UFC 84 fight. Is this a fight that you hope they put together?
TS: Yeah, I would love to fight that guy. I've tried to fight him ever since I fought in PRIDE and he's been ducking me. Shogun has been ducking me since the PRIDE days. Shogun's camp told me that to fight him, I had to fight Cyborg first. I told them I want to fight Shogun, not Cyborg, and then Pride went away and now he's in the UFC and he hasn't fought for a minute. I know he got injured for his last fight, but I think by the time I'm ready to fight again, hopefully he should be ready and will take the fight.
PC: I can already tell you what people are going to say. What would you do when Shogun gets you on the ground?
TS: Good luck to him trying to get me to the ground. I got my ass kicked once on the ground so you think I just went home and didn't do anything on the ground? I spent hours and hours fighting off of my back.

i like soko but he does not deserve a fight with shogun yet, he needs to earn it plus i want shogun vs liddel.

I’d like to see this fight happen. I just hope Shogun returns to his old self next time.

why wouldnt he deserve it he’s back on the winning path and shogun isnt. he’s knocked out lil nog and arona i think he is deserving. i dont think shogun has been duckin him tho he was a nobody back then why would shogun want to fight him? he acts like he was in pride for so long he just started fighting right before the sale he needs to quiet down.

because he has what 5 or 6 fights and lost and beat a c level fighter and shogun is not on a losing path he lost 1 fight recently and is a elite fighter i like soko but he has alot to prove still he was on the undercard last fight, what would beating him do for shogun. down the road i would love it but right now shogun still deserves a top fighter.

The Shogun I remember in Pride was bad ass. His fight in the UFC looked like he wasn’t himself. Maybe it was just that Forrest was on his game I don’t know. But if we get the Shogun from Pride I would put money down that he would beat Soku right now.

if shogun beat soko it would be a nice win and after all shogun have gone through it would be nice for him to notch a win against soko. i dont think its fair that everyone wants him to fight a rampage or chuck the first fight back. who knows how his leg is. give the guy a break.

forget soku vs shogun. i want to see shogun-liddell first. then soku can take the winner. soku has fought quality oponents, but honestly, no one has seen much of him. he has less than 10 fights altogether, and in his fights with top tier guys (i.e. nog), the fights dont even last 1 round.

ayo hold on let’s get thing’s right he did beat recordo arona but he never fought current UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira he fought his twin brother Antonio Rogerio Nogueira who is a light heavyweight. i cant believe know one commented on this. the guy who wrote this article should have done some research. fyi Matt Hughes also has a twin mark hughes

i agree with dane drebin it is rediculous comming from a website like this

Maybe spike1244 needs some remedial english comprehension classes. The articles says he beat the champs brother. That’s why nobody commented on it.
“He also holds a win over current UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira’s little bro Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.”
What is pretty ridiculous is to post a comment calling out a professional journalist when you are the one with the second grade reading level.

when you put it like that dane i can see your point its probally not a good idea for his first fight back after a bad injury to fight chuck or rampage, but i still think soko is in no position no be calling out anyone after losing and beating a weak fighter.i do think soko is going to be a top fighter but he has to show it still.
