Rumor: Fedor Emelianenko Dropped From Affliction 2 Card, Josh Barnett A Possible Replacement
By CagE | August 2, 2008
According to FiveOuncesOfPain, a anonymous source has confirmed that Fedor Emelianenko will not be able to compete at Affliction second event slated for Oct. 11, due to an long standing hand injury.
A reliable source speaking on the condition of anonyomity revealed to Five Ounces of Pain that Emelianenko has been dealing with a lingering hand injury that will make it virtually impossible for him to be ready in time for Affliction’s October show at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
According to the source Arlovski is still going to headline the event and Josh Barnett has been named as a possible replacement for Emelianenko.
To back up that rumor, the Thomas & Mack Center website has the event listed as:
Affliction II coming to Las Vegas featuring Arlovski vs. TBD!
An Andrei Arlovski vs. Josh Barnett main event is going to be a harder sell to the casual fan, who Affliction is relying on make their promotion a success. Affliction better get Tito Ortiz on board to draw fans who don’t recognize names like Barnett, Belfort or Lindland.

Weak. Really wanted to see Fedor in this fight.

That really sucks. I know Barnett will step in though.

What did he hurt it smashing little Timmys face??

I also think AA needs another tune up fight Big Ben really should not have been a challenge

this might work out if you want to see randy and fedor fight. they might be able to do that before the end of the year.

That would be an awesome fight.. Josh is one of the best heavyweights in the world. He’s fighting his way to the top and deserves every bit of it.

that long standing hand injury didn’t hold fedor back from the last fight. that’s weird

Yeah thats right, the hand wasn’t ever mentioned in his fight with Sylvia. Either way I was really looking foward to Fedor /Arlovski. But Barnett seems like a good replacement anyway.

i don’t think AA would last with fedor this soon. AA needs to build that confidence back up first. i personally would like to see barnett vs fedor… since barnett did whoop his brother Aleks a few years back. but AA-barnett would still be exciting too.

Yeah I want to watch this fight too. Great points about giving AA another fight to tune-up some more. Barnett sounds like a great fill-in until Fedor is healed up.

I think Arlovski is a challenge for any heavyweight right now. I think he matches up well with Fedor in every aspect except on the ground where he would have to work some more jitz. But yeah, I don’t think AA needs a tune-up, I really thought this match was great for him and Fedor. I hope they do land Barnett as an opponent.

the winner will prolly end up fighting fedor at the next card neway….i dont reallly think that andrei matches up with fedor newhere…he has a chance standing up but it’s not that good of a chance….bottom line is fedor is a beast and not even coutoure can beat him…he might get the closest but i just dont see it happening
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:03 pm
i actually thought that tim silvia would be the toughest test so far for Fedor and we see how that ended up. I wanted to see Fedor fight in the next event but it may work out better this way. If AA beats Barnett he will be pumped to fight Fedor. But Fedor and Barnett would be great to see because Barnett seems to have no fear in the ring. Does anyone know if Fedor and Barnett have fought before in the past?
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:23 pm
I thought they were keeping Randy vs Fedor secret. Is fedor going to compete for M-1 Global for new years?
Fedor is the man.
August 3rd, 2008 at 10:47 pm
fedor and barnett have yet to fight. Also I dont think anyone can really challenge the last emperor. He is just TOO good.
August 5th, 2008 at 8:24 am
didn’t i read somewhere on this site in the news that fedor is going to fight 3 times this year?
September 29th, 2008 at 3:23 am
without Fedor, Affliction 2 might be missing the magic that Affliction Banned had. Hand injury? That sounds like BS.
September 29th, 2008 at 5:50 am
this is an old story. fedor is already negotiating to be in the next event. but i don’t think thats going down till early next year.
