The latest Strikeforce event “Rousey versus Kaufman” has been reported to break all audience/viewers records for the Zuffa –owned promotion for the entire year. Last Saturday’s event drew an average of 529,000 viewers on premium cable network Showtime. It was considered the highest for the year 2012.
It was Sherdog.com who confirmed the figures Tuesday from an industry source. The two hour live telecast also posted a household rating of 1:43. “Rousey versus Kaufman” was the headline for the fight which was a bantamweight match between 135 – pound fighter Ronda Rousey and former champion Sarah Kaufman. The event was also a crowd-drawer as it took place at the Valley View Casino Center in San Diego, California, USA.
The fight was absolutely superb as action began right away for Rousey. Like all her fights, she closed the show with a signature armbar that had Kaufman out of the fight in just a few seconds of the first round. Rousey jabbed her way to the clinch and wasted no time sweeping Kaufman to the mat and quickly transitioned to the mount. She managed to deliver the “Rowdy armbar” in just less than thirty seconds. Kaufman however, tried to escape Rousey’s hold but the former was able to finish the fight in just 54 seconds of round one.
Rousey has a superb fighting record of 6 wins with no losses. She always manages to submit her opponent via her signature armbar in just seconds of the first round. Along with Sarah Kaufman, she has also defeated great fighters like Miesha Tate, Julia Budd, Sarah D’Alelio, Charmaine Tweet and Ediane Gomes.
Along with the headline fight are several impressive co headliners like the match between Ronaldo Souza and Derek Brunson in just 41 seconds of the match. On the other matches, Team Quest fighter Tarec Saffidine defeated Roger Bowling. There was also an amazing triangle choke from Anthony Smith that finished the fight against Lumumba Sayers. And of course, who would miss Ovince St. Preux as he puts T.J. Cook to sleep with a hard left hook.
The audience record for the exciting match surpassed all previous high records for 2012 and it was basically attributed to the impressive crowd-drawing charms of women MMA. Ronda Rousey impressed everyone and as of press time, she is being pitted to fight another MMA great who is bigger and heavier than she is to prove once and for all that she has what it takes to be called the champ.
