Its official! The first UFC women’s bout will push through and what better way to make it happen than a headline fight between UFC bantamweight queen Ronda Rousey against Liz Carmouche at UFC 157. UFC President Dana White announced Thursday that the bout was official and it will be a momentous event in UFC.

At a UFC on Fox 5 news conference at Thursday, Dana White has officially announced Ronda Rousey as UFC’s inaugural women’s bantamweight champion. White presented her with the belt and introduced her opponent: Liz Carmouche. The two impressive women will make UFC history as fans from all over the world are waiting for Rousey’s fate at UFC for a long time now.

UFC 157 will be held at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, United States on February 23, 2013. Before, it was mistakenly announced that Rousey will be defending her title against Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos for UFC 157. However Cyborg turned the fight down; she stated that her team head been negotiating with UFC since she won’t be able to cut down to 135lbs in time for February. Cyborg did not reveal if she was not given enough time to make her weight cut so she can fight Rowdy for the title.

White also stated that the Rousey-Santos was his first choice for the headliner for UFC 157; UFC President also mentioned that Carmouche was the most willing alternative fighter for Rousey should Santos did not like the match.

White stated in an interview: “Rousey – Santos was obviously the fight we wanted to make. We wanted to do that at 135 pounds, and we worked hard to make that fight. I believe that this fight will happen. I truly believe the next one will be the Cyborg fight at 135 pounds.” He added: “Let me put it to you this way: [Carmouche is] who wanted to fight [Rousey]. People aren’t kicking the doors down of Zuffa to fight her.”

Ronda “Rowdy” Rousey is a bantamweight champion with a perfect 6 wins and no losses record. She is a 2008 Olympic judo bronze medallist with an impressive fighting technique. She has managed to put down all her opponents with an arm bar move. She has captured Strikeforce bantamweight crown from Miesha Tate in March and has defended the crown successfully in August.

UFC 157 will surely be a much-awaited event in MMA history.
