Recent HBO Shakeup Leaves UFC Deal Uncertain

By CagE | May 17, 2007

HBO UFC deal uncertain

According to MMAWeekly, The recent firing of HBO Chairman and CEO Chris Albrecht has put any deal with the UFC in limbo. Albrecht pushed to have mixed martial arts included as part of HBO’s sports programming. Dana White commented that Albrecht’s dismissal would likely effect the deal with HBO.

It’s unfortunate… [but] we haven’t come to a deal with HBO anyway. We’re still hitting that thing back and forth.

HBO Sports President Ross Greenburg didn’t want MMA as part of HBO sports lineup, but Albrecht vetoed the decision, making it possible for the UFC deal. Now that Albrecht is gone, the HBO deal is going to have an uphill battle to get signed.
