Rashad Evans Calls Jon Jones Out On Ducking Fight, Explains Club Altercation

Rashad Evans gives us his side of the story of what went down between himself and Jon Jones at a Las Vegas nightclub. The two fighters were in town for the UFC fighter summit.

“I saw Jon this past week at the fighter summit and we were at the same location. He pulled me to the side and he said ‘Rashad, I need to talk to you, I think things are getting out of control.’ I thought it was pretty mature for the young guy instead of just ignoring me. First thing he said was ‘I just wanna be the first to tell you is I’m gonna destroy you, I’m gonna annihilate you and I’m gonna show the world you’re overrated. I’m gonna punish you and you’ll be my first highlight reel knockout’ and I just started laughing.

You brought me out here to tell me you’re gonna destroy me? Let’s not even talk about how stupid that sounds. Why would you wanna come way over here to say that in private. Furthermore, how did you even come up with that? He’s like ‘Rashad, remember when I was catching you with knees and elbows in training’ but I said ‘I was simulating Bader. I wasn’t trying to beat you, Jon. I was simulating Bader and what he might do’ I told him, ‘do you remember when I held you down and I was slapping you and punching you in the face and you were underneath me and you couldn’t move and then you looked me in the eye and said ‘Ok, can we get up now?’ and I said ‘No Jon, if you quit now, you’ll quit in the fight. You gotta earn your way up,” so we fought some more and you couldn’t move some more and you said ‘can you help me?’ and I said ‘No, you have to earn your way up’ and we go for a little bit longer and you still can’t get up so you roll on your back to let me choke you out thinking I’d let you up and be satisfied with that but I didn’t. I continued to make you work up.’ I said ‘do you remember that?’ and he said “yeah, I remember that’ and I said ‘that’s why you don’t want to fight me’ and he was just lost for words for a second and he told me, ‘Rashad, you just motivating me. You don’t know what you started’ and it just went like that and it just ended when a couple people from our parties separated the two of us. He couldn’t let it go.”

“There’s no doubt in my mind Jon ducked me in this fight. Jon knows it and I know it. There’s really know way around it. It’s hard for me to imagine with Jon thinking he’s so great and that he thinks he can beat me but it’s just odd. When you don’t take a fight with somebody for one reason or another, that’s one thing, but to make up an injury, say you have an injury and you go as far as to say you’ll have surgery and then you don’t have it. That’s clearly a sign that you don’t want to fight somebody.” [Mania]

Comments

  1. Just as I thought.. Jon is afraid of Rashad

  2. I kinda hope Rashad does beat Jon… he obviously believes his hype. Jones is very skilled etc… but I'm sure Shogun was not near 100% in their last fight so it made Jones look better than he is. Take Jones' reach away… stay in the pocket and knock his ass out!!

  3. WHODINI says:

jones is gonna beat him like he stole something from him .. its gonna be black on black crime what hes gonna do to him

  4. PoppyNick says:

I agree Whodini…..Bones will destroy Rashad.

  5. I'm gonna doubt a lot of what Rashad says, being that his entire camp pretty much refuted everything he said about them. I think Jones will win the fight, and I believe him about his injury.

He gave a perfectly reasonable explanation as to why he considered the surgery, and then didn't want it. In any case it was an injury, regardless of whether or not he had surgery he would have been out of the fight.

My question to doubters would be: Jon Jones is known for taking as many fights as he can get, why would he stop now? If He's like any other fighter He'll want to cement his legacy as one of the greats, and you don't do that by ducking fights.

So Rashad can piss and moan and talk all the trash He wants, but He's the one who started this pissing contest.

  6. machida picks people apart from the outside and thats what he did to rashad. i think jones does that too because of this crazy reach.

unless rashad completely changes the way he fights which is to stick and move he's going to get beat by jon jones. rashad has to become a brawler to win that fight and like DanP says, stay in the pocket looking for a knockout.

  7. Jones is going to pick Evans apart if Rashad makes it past Davis, which he should but anything can happen,. But when this fight does go down I see Jones ending this fight early.

  8. the only reason i can see for jones stopping is because he has taken so many fights in a row and he is enjoying his time off to do media. he's everywhere right now.

  9. Nichole Lesniak says:

Wow, you guys really believe Rashad?

Did you know that the word 'gullible' isn't in the dictionary?

  10. Who do we know better Rashad or Jon Jones? We know Rashad better because he's been on a couple of seasons of TUF. I think Rashad is a stand up guy. I met him a couple of times at the old, hole in the wall Jackson's Gym, way before he got popular.

On the other hand I liked Jones and thought Rashad was scared to face him when he first came out pissed off about Jones saying he would like to fight him. Then Jones did the same thing to Anderson Silva right after Anderson said they would never fight. Those underhanded comments would piss me off too. I don't think Jones is afraid of Rashad I think Jon Jones wants some camera time and to enjoy the title. I'm on the fence about that because while he should have to defend it at all times, he's fought a ton of times since he go in the UFC.
