Post UFC 101 Forrest Griffin Exodus Update

By CagE | August 9, 2009

forrest-griffin-preparefight

Wonder where Forrest Griffin ran off to after his UFC 101 loss to Anderson Silva? Rumors of Griffin breaking his jaw started to come out,

I heard his jaw was dislocated very early in the fight…then he took several more punches to the jaw. Apparently he can’t hear out of the ear on that side either. He left the octagon because he needed medical attention asap. At first they thought his jaw was broken, then said it was dislocated.[UG]“

The Telegraph confirms that his was dislocated,

The mystery of Forrest Griffin’s jog from the Octagon in Philadelphia immediately after being knocked out spectacularly by Anderson Silva at UFC 101 was clarified Sunday when the American’s camp revealed he had suffered a dislocated jaw after being struck by the supremely-gifted Brazilian.

UPDATE
MMAWeekly debunks all of it,

Reports surfaced on Sunday that Griffin had suffered a jaw injury and that was the reason for his hasty exit, but MMAWeekly.com was able to confirm with representatives from Zinkin Entertainment, Griffin’s management group, that he is physically fine following the Saturday night fight.

Griffin suffered no broken jaw and he is physically okay, said the Zinkin representative, but emotionally he is definitely not dealing well with the loss.

Theirs No Shame in getting your head knocked off by Anderson Silva.

same fighter who had wars with bonner, rua and jackson and then this display i am embarrassed for him and i dont know how he can look himself in the mirror.
silva is a great fighter but that performance by griffen made him look like superman
nobody is that good come on now

i felt bad for griffin. How many times has he ran away after he lost a fight.

I dont like Anderson Silva’s cocky attitude, but he is a great fighter. I want to see Silva fight Machida for the belt. I think that would be a good fight.

I would like to see how Silva would handle Machida being so evasive. it would be interesting

  3. patrick bateman Says:

silva has stated he will not fight his friend machida but mabey the ufc can make it happen i hope so
a dan henderson rematch is not exciting for me and probably not silva either

  4. Tim Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 10:06 am

They said the only way they would fight is if they both got like 30 million a piece, so that will never happen and thats basically what there both implying they do not want to fight eachother.

This explains alot, the quick exit the stoppage the short jab that KO griffin…it all makes sense he dislocated his jaw early in the fight and took a few more shots and the last one he quick…props to griffin for trying to stay in it..i mean come do you guys realize how tough it is to continue to fight after you know your jaw is dislocated? that takes guts and pride of a warrior.

Silva may be cocky but he is also very respectfull as well, i love this guy…the man is on top of his game. i see a GSP vs Silva coming….

  5. tom Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 10:28 am

silva has to much power at 205 for ppl to handle..he has speed and great aim at 185 and at 205 he has al that and a lot more power..

  6. Mike Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 10:31 am

    Tim… look up Arthur Abraham….

GSP vs Silva should be good and Silva can make 170.

  7. zack Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 10:35 am

Anderson is fighting Hendo next for the middleweight crown.

  8. Tong Po Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 10:42 am

I know alot of you are going to think i have absolutely lost my mind when i say this. I believe that Silva has got such great skill, not only can he beat GSP, he could be machida, Penn, and Lesner.

I have never seen anyone blast through opponents when he wants to like Silva. I think he is a type of fighter that has to be challenged or he gets bored.

I would even like to see how silva would do against Cro Cop.

Now what a good fight would be is Silva and Fedor. Since Fedor will never come to the UFC that will never happen.

  9. Jay Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 11:23 am

Guess what ZACH? Anderson is gonna kick hendo’s ass. And i know all of you guys in here are gonna doubt silva again just like you doubted him against Forrest

  10. zack Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 11:42 am

Jay, we ‘ll see…I can’t wait….Hendo is goin to KO that cocky, asshole Anderson Silva. I guarantee everybody here wants Dan to kick Anderson’s arrorant ass…

  11. Jay Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 11:46 am

Mike says in jis previus comments”Anderson doesnt have an A game he loks good against average fighters”

Bill says: I expect Forrest to win i think he will finally be beat. forrest will over power him and get a 2nd round tko.

  12. Jay Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 11:49 am

Zach, dont you undesatnd by now that Anderson is on another dimension in the striking dept. Anderson Is not gonna expose his chin to hendersen. Anderson is very defensive and blocks all of his opponents punches. when you toy with a former champion in forrest wiht your hands down and playing around your are for REAL!!!!

  13. zack Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 11:53 am

NOBODY IS DOUBTING SILVA, EXCEPT FOR ONE OR TWO PEOPLE. QUIT SAYING THAT OVER AND OVER AND OVER. IT’S JUST EVERYBODY HERE DOESN’T LIKE HIS ASS AND WANT TO SEE SOMEBODY KICK THE SHIT OUT OF HIM.

  14. zack Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 12:02 pm

Anderson didn’t look very defensive last night. He stood there a bunch of times with his hands down and chin sticking out. If he does that against Hendo, it’ll be a short night for Anderson and he’ll get KTFO just like Bisping. Dan has brutal brutal power in his hands, way more powerful then Forrest. He also has great chin and great wrestling. Anderson’s next fight with Dan will be a way tougher match then it was with Forrest.

  15. Deshawn Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 12:09 pm

You guys shock me sometime with these comments, since when has A.Silva been cocky he bows 2 all hes opponets before and after the fighs real cocky. When he put his hands down thats showmenship not ego, if i was that damn good i would put my hands down 2. And Hendo knocking him out whoaaa! its not possible 2 knock out silva u have 2 work on hitting him first, and he has a rock solid chin he spars with heavyweights. when have u seen Silva even rocked Never!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. zack Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 12:16 pm

FYI, everybody can be KO’d. I thought Mark Hunt had the greatest chin in all of MMA and would never get KO’d (Did you see that brutal head kick Mirko hit him with) but then he got KO’d. Trust me anybody can be KO’d. You just have to get hit on the button. Anderson just has never been hit really hard on the button and i’ll give him credit it’s very hard to connect on him. But to say he’ll never ever get KO’d is kind of silly.

  17. Jay Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 12:19 pm

Zach, Anderson stood there with his hands down purposely to show that he is the man. he did that with Rich the second time too. He was playing with forrest. And when he fought Hendo he connected with a muay thai
knee and a punch and Hendo decided he had enough and went to the ground becuase he knew he was in trouble. Here is my honest opinion i think that DAMIAN MAIA could beat Anderson if he gets him to the gorund but it wont be easy either

  18. zack Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 12:23 pm

Deshawn, have you seen the power in Hendo’s hands and the many brutal KO’s he has under his belt??? (Bisping, Wanderlei, Gono, Chonan, Oyama, Shoji and Renzo) Watch those fights and tell me Dan doesn’t have brutal power in his hands.

  19. Donio Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 12:28 pm

I agree 100% whit yu zack and jay the first time hendo fought silva that was a good fight.

And there next fight wil b good also silva’s tough and also is hendo .

People just wanne see silva get beat thats al.

They cant stand greatnes :S so they just hate and talk shit .

  20. zack Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 12:29 pm

I don’t think Maia would beat Anderson. I think Dan has the best style to beat Anderson. Their first fight Dan didn’t look himself, and didn’t stick to his gameplan, which was to get in Anderson’s face with punches and just sort of grind on him with some clinch work against the cage and some g and p. Give credit to Anderson, he beat Dan fair and square, hurt Dan with a punch, a lil g and p and a choke. But, I think Dan’s on a roll right now and will fare much better the next go around with Silva.

I HAVE JUST LEARNED OF SOMETHING WILD!!!!!

ANDERSON SILVA COULD GIVE UP MIDDLEWEIGHT TITLE TO REMAIN AT THE LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT DIV.

According to a Yahoo Sports report, Silva’s manager, Ed Soares, approached UFC President Dana While following Silva’s KO of Griffin at Saturday’s UFC 101 event in Philadelphia about a long-term move to 205:

That Silva could move up a weight class and not just win, but destroy with power, was a game-changing and perhaps UFC-altering moment. That’s what Silva and his manager, Ed Soares, wanted to discuss with White.

With his arm wrapped around White’s shoulder, Soares leaned in and delivered a proposition. “Spider” Silva would move permanently to light heavyweight, even if it meant the unorthodox move of giving up his middleweight belt.

“I can do that,” White smiled, a bit stunned at the offer. “I like that. We can do that.”

Soares smiled and shook White’s hand. Silva had been accosted by a fan by then and couldn’t hear White, but it was presumably the news he was seeking. The man has such outrageous confidence in his abilities he’s willing to potentially toss away a championship he’s owned for almost three years to take a challenge outside his comfort zone.

“I’d let him,” White said later, sitting in his quiet dressing room. “We’d put [the middleweight title] up for grabs.”

Silva had been expected to fight Hendo for the middleweight title, but the matchup could be off if the UFC opts to keep Silva at light heavyweight. Complicating matters are Silva’s friendship with the current light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida and the friends saying that they would not fight eachother.

I WOULD LOVE TO SEE ANDERSON / MACHIDA…

    *UPDATE*
Forrest Griffin’s jaw was not injured at UFC 101 with his KO loss to Anderson Silva. According to Joe Ferraro of Sportsnet’s “MMA Connected”, Griffin’s jaw is “fine”.

At the post-fight press conference, UFC President Dana White said he hadn’t seen Griffin following the knockout and had no idea where he’d gone or why he left, though White added that he believed Griffin simply ran out of the Octagon as a result of his being an emotional fighter.

I knew it. Forrest was doing the same shit he did before, running and crying his way out of the octagon.

  25. derek Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 1:05 pm

anderson’s striking is just superior to a lot of fighters. only fedor can probably really challenge silva. ma-cheetah would be running all night from silva. liddell, tito, rashad, rua, etc — nobody would be able to challenge silva. rampage may be able to strike with with silva, but silva has much faster hands.

  26. Tong Po Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 1:12 pm

zack i agree with you. It is sad to know that one of UFCs former champions runs and cries when he loses. If i was Dana i would give him a scolding for that. He is making the UFC look bad. I dont care if he is emotional or not. you just dont do stuff like that. If he cant take losing maybe he needs to leave the UFC. You win some and you lose some.

Derek i agree with you as well. Anderson is superior to alot of fighters. I think if he put on more weight he could even take Lesner.

Silva is a very talented fighter. He knows it too.

  27. Deshawn Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 1:20 pm

Dan does have power in his hands but there much more 2 fighting than punching power with those small gloves alot of fighters can hit hard. What about technique and the art of hitting without getting hit, such as floyd mayweather, Machida, and of course A.Silva. Dan has a good chin but hes a brawler, yeah he look good against Bisping maybe u should watch the fight again Zack Bisping was moving towards Dan power hand thats basic boxing everyone knows u circle away from the powerhand. And W.silva who hasnt knocked him out?

  29. zack Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 1:32 pm

Deshawn, Dan was making Bisping move toward his left, because everytime Bisping moved right, Dan just kept hitting him with his left, forcing Bisping to move right. If everybody knows about Dan’s bombs, then why does he keep knocking people TFO??? And Dan’s also very good hitting someone and not being hit. He’s never been KO’d or even TKO’d. FYI, not to many people have KO’d Wandy, just Rampage, Hendo and Crocop, and those guys have KO’d so many people it’s not funny. Dan also KO’d Wandy three years ago when he was dominating Pride.

    ANDERSON IS NOT FIGHTING MACHIDA!!!

FEDOR IS NOT COMING TO UFC, EVER, AND NOT FIGHTING LESNAR!!!

Move on with your pathetic lives!!!

  31. Bazooka Joe Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 1:45 pm

Who the hell is talking about Fedor, killah hillz??? And nobody’s saying Anderson is definetley figthing Machida. They just said he might start fighting at 205 permantely. Calm the fuck down…

  32. Mac Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 2:05 pm

It was certainly an impressive victory for Silva. He continuously takes on major names and does not lose. Imagine if Fedor was doing the same, but under the circumstances Silva must be titled Pound For Pound Best in the World.

However to turn down a match with Machida because they are friends should not be allowed, in fact anytime a Champion refuses to take on a challenger, their belt should be forfeit.

  33. STEVEO Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 2:09 pm

i agree mac, if the ufc says your going to fight, they should fight but from a marketing standpoint they would likely let machida defend a few times and let silva take out evans, tito, or rampage or maybe even all of them before he gets a shot to build up hype. personally i think hes good enough to bounce back and forth. Defend his belt and fight up and maybe win another.

  34. miko Says:

  36. derek Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 4:11 pm

fedor already signed with strikeforce. he’ll be there for at least 2 years. he won’t fight in the ufc until he’s 40 and insignificant. fedor’s legacy is garbage in my opinion. moving on to the real topic at hand, i think forrest ran out of the cage because he was embarassed! he got put down by a single well-timed short punch by anderson. anderson’s striking was superior.

  37. Killah Hillz Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 4:13 pm

talk tough, bazooka…where you live? let’s do this, bitch.

  38. Nathan Says:

  39. Hank Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 4:28 pm

  45. YO Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 5:07 pm

Silva isn’t cocky, he just knows he is the best. He is also very respectful of his opponents. Hendo is no match for Silva, he should move up and take on some bigger competition. For those calling for Silva vs Lesner, why would you want to risk having a 300 lb steroid machine fall on Silva. That could be bad.

  46. Killah Hillz Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 5:26 pm

“I’m not the best, I just want to fight the best.”

“Forrest deserves respect, and is a great fighter.”

  52. Businessman Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 8:48 pm

Thanks for the entertainment….getting back to the fight, I am not a Forrest fan but I do beleive that he is tough. This was just not a good fight him style wise. Joe Rogan, who happens to be wrong 90% of the time said this was going to be a bad match up for Anderson because of Forrest’s agressive style, but really, Silva was to quick for him. I picked Anderson but I was surprised it was a first round knockout. There has been talk back and forth about whether or not Forrest broke or dislocated his jaw, but as tough as he is (this coming from someone that is not a Forrest fan) he had to be hurt to have gone down like that. He has been in some wars and hit real hard but all it takes is one hit with the right power and at the right spot and bones can break. Think about how many times a fighter gets hit in the nose and it never breaks and all of a sudden a punch will break it…things just happen.

  53. Killah Hillz Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 9:12 pm

That’s right, businessman. Forrest doesn’t just quit. He’s been in wars. I think even if his jaw isn’t broken, he must have been real hurt to go out from that fall-away-jab. Silva’s great, but come one. So, for Forrest to go out like that, the damage must have already been done earlier. Forrest did go down twice before that. I hope he doesn’t retire, and comes back strong. Some rumors are circulating that he’s going to give it up, but I can’t see that. He’s too big right now to walk away after that, and like that.

I also read that Kimbo got KTFO twice on TUF 10, and someone got kicked out for sneaking in an iPhone. We’ll see about all that.

    Oh yeah…bazooka, flight 925, southwest airlines, Tuesday @ 1:55pm CT….get ready….it’s booked.

  54. Jay Says:
    August 9th, 2009 at 9:46 pm

Forrest Ran out because of Humiliation. Anderson Silva Annhilated Forrest totally. You guys that keep backing Forrest up are crazy. Anderson slva will go down as the best Mixed martial artist ever lived. He will become a Legend. And he will retire undefeated. Say what you wanna say that Oy yeah Hendersen, shogun, rampage, evans, GSP, lidell, ortiz, cung lee, marqaurt exc………. will not bet him. How many fighters do you see playing around with a former champion and take him out with ease.

  55. Mike Says:

Anderson is no undefeated….. maybe in the UFC but as i say, who gives a fuck about the UFC with there 12023021 million safety rules!

Silva won’t fight Machida…. cos he’ll lose, hes already pretty much admitted that himself.

after one of forest’s earlier fights (i forgot wich one) he said that he hasn’t improved untill stops going to the windmill as a last resort. and recently he said he could be beaten but never broken. Anderson broke him down and forced him to abandon his game plan and go right back to the windmill approch that he has stayed away from for a long time now. Silva baited him into an exchange and that imbaresed him and that is why he broke and ran, if you can’t see that then you have not been paying attetion to Forest. He knew better than to exchange and go sucked into it anyway.

Killa, you are so tough dude, we are all terrified! Nothing is more scarey than an annonymous teenager making threats to come kick everyone’s ass over the internet. Lol…Good stuff!

But back to MMA where men actually know that they have to back up their tough talk: I am not a conspiracy theorist and I hate to say it, but the only reasonable conclusion I can come up with is that Griffin took a dive. How else can you explain a guy like him tapping out after a jab and then getting up right away and taking off? Anderson hasn’t been that impressive of late and Dana needs another Fedor now that he can’t sign the real one. That was a freaking joke. I have seen fighters take a dive before (live once…see the following article – http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/boxing/news/story?id=1761952) and this looked just as fake.

If that link doesn’t take you to the article, it was back in 2002 – Joey Torres vs Perry Williams.

Forrest didnt take a Dive, do you honestly think the UFC needs be the Kimbo version of Elite XC to make ratings….come on get over it. Forrest came in prepared because he trainined with good old Mir and thought he was going to outstrike Silva and when he couldnt handle the hand speed and power he just said he had enough or maybe it was that when he was down he really didnt give up but the ref called it, i dont know i know that Forrest is a emotional fighter and takes every fight very intense and he is upset with himself for the way he lost he got embarrassed.

good stiff dane, sometimes if you can’t ignore them you just got to beat them at there own game. you clowned him so easily it wasn’t even a fair fight, he will probally come back with more gay insults because thats all he knows.

forest didnt take a dive and if I’m not mistaken it was a right hook that took him out.i may be wrong it happened so fast but it seems like he jabbed left then hooked his ass

Why is everyone like willing to go gay for a Lyoto Vs. Silva fight?? What happens if Rampage comes out and destroys Rashad Evens even worse then Machida?? Then will everyone want Rampage Vs. Silva. The only way that fight will happen is if Machida clears out the LHW division. You also have to put in effect that Machida barley won over Tito Ortiz… There is honestly still alot of questions about Machida. As far as Forrest taking a fall?? Could be true could not be true. If it is true then I officially lost respect for Dana White.
