When UFC promises an entertaining year-end show, it pulls out all the stops to give fans what they want. Presenting UFC heavyweight prospect Todd Duffee as he returns to the Octagon to replace Matt Mitrione as he faces the famous British fighter Philip De Fries at UFC 155.
It was first just a speculation but the Las Vegas Sun broke the news and finally UFC officials were able to confirm the fight to the public. Matt Mitrione was pulled out from the scheduled fight with De Fries to fill in for Shane Carwin who was injured. Carwin was supposed to fight against Roy Nelson on December 15 at “The Ultimate Fighter” Season 13 Finale. Next season promises a great and colorful season as Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen become trainers themselves.
On the other hand, UFC 155 will be at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas on December 29, 2012 with a headline fight against Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez. Dos Santos will defend his heavyweight belt against former champion Velasquez on the Octagon.
Todd Duffee is a 26 year old heavyweight fighter from Evansville, Indiana, United States. He has 7 wins and 2 losses in his professional career. His last fight was a win against Neil Grove at the Super Fight League 2 in April 2012 via TKO in just 34 seconds of round 1. Before this latest win, Duffee has suffered a back to back loss first was with Mike Russow at UFC 114 -Rampage versus Evans in May 2010 and against Alistair Overeem at the K1 – Dynamite!! Power of Courage 2010 in December 2010. He has defeated impressive fighters Time Hague, Assuerio Silva, Josh Bennett, Mark Honneger and Jonathan Spears to name a few.
Philip De Fries on the other hand is a 26 year old heavyweight from Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, England. He has a great fighting career with 9 wins, 1 loss and 1 non contest in his report card. His last fight was a win against Oli Thompson at UFC on Fox 4 – Shogun versus Vera in August 2012 via rear-naked choke. Before this win was his classic loss to Stipe Miocic at UFC on Fuel TV – Sanchez versus Ellenberger in February 2012 via KO. His non contest fight was against Dave Wilson at Tyneside Fighting Challenge in June 2010. His fight against Duffee will surely bring a blast to welcome the New Year.
