UFC 90: Rich Clementi vs. Gray Maynard Likely

According to MMAJunkie, former TUF cast member and Xtreme Couture fighter Gray Maynard (5-0) could take on Rich “No Love” Clementi (32-12-1) at UFC 90 on Oct 25 from the Allstate Arena, Chicago, IL.

No bout agreement have been signed, but an official announcement is expected soon.

Maynard, has put together a three fight winning streak in the UFC since leaving The Ultimate Fighter reality show. His last win came by way of decision over UFC lightweight contender Frankie Edgar at UFC Fight Night 13

Clementi also a former TUF cast member has been on a tear trough the UFC, putting together a six fight win streak over tough competitors like Anthony Johnson, Sam Stout, Melvin Guillard and Terry Etim.

The fight should be a good addition to a already stacked card.

UFC 84 “ILL WILL” which features the long awaited battle for the 155lb title belt between UFC Lightweight Champion BJ “The Prodigy” Penn and former UFC champion Sean “The Muscle Shark” Sherk.

MAIN CARD

  • BJ Penn vs. Sean Sherk

    Round 1: The fight starts out aggressively with both fighters trading punches. Penn goes for a strike and Sherk attempts a takedown, which Penn escapes. Both fighters exchange punches. Sherk lands several punches, but Penn counters with the same. Penn is just out pointing Sherk, landing more accurate strikes. Sherk has a cut below his right eye. Both fighters keep it standing and continue exchanging punches. Penn is landing a few more solid strikes than Sherk. CT: 10-9 Penn

    Round 2: The second round begins with both fighters continuing to exchange punches. The fighters spend the round boxing and exchanging strikes, Penn is definitely getting the upper hand. Both Sherks eyes are bleeding. CT: 10-9 Penn

    Round 3: Round three begins the same way as the previous rounds with both fighters exchanging strikes. Penn’s pace is slowing down a little as he attempts a lazy takedown, which is easily avoided by Sherk. The fighters keep exchanging punches, Sherk tries landing more leg kicks, with little success. Penn lands a good combination, Sherk backs up to the cage. Penn See’s an opportunity and lands a flying knee, dropping Sherk. Penn tastes blood and tries to end it. it looks like Sherk was saved by the bell, but the fight is stopped after referee, Mario Yamasaki evaluated the downed Sherk.
    Result: BJ Penn defeats Sean Sherk by TKO (Knee, Strikes) at 5:00 of R3.

  • Keith Jardine vs. Wanderlei Silva
    Round 1: Jardine pushes the pace by aggressively going after Silva with punches and low leg kicks reminiscent of his fight with Chuck Liddell. Jardine lands a low kick, but Silva counters with a punch that rocks Jardine to the ground. Silva quickly pounces on Jardine and referee Steve Mazzagatti stops the fight at 0:36 of the first round. Jardine looks hurt and stiff like a board. He later slightly recovers just enough to stumble out of the cage with his team.
    Result: Wanderlei Silva defeats Keith Jardine by KO (Punches) at 0:36 of R1.
  • Wilson Gouveia vs. Goran Reljic

    Round 1: Gouveia lands and inside leg kick, Reljic counters and lands a kick to the head. Gouveia is landing leg kicks, while Reljic lands left kicks to the head of Gouveia. All of Reljic’s strikes are coming from the left side. Reljic lands two more left kicks and Gouveia’s shoulder is turning red. Gouveia gets more aggressive and lands several punches, but Reljic pulls guard and the round ends on the ground.

    Round 2: Both fighters are cautious starting out and Reljic lands the first effective kick to the head. Gouveia hits Reljic with a left hook that dropped him. Gouveia lands punch after punch from on top while Reljic was up pinned against the fence. Gouveia dominates on the ground and continues to punish Reljic from the top position. Reljic managed to get back to his feet and lands a left hook to the temple of Gouveia which hurts and drops him. Reljic continues to pound on him until referee Herb Dean stops the fight at the 3:15 mark.
    Result: Goran Reljic defeats Wilson Gouveia by TKO (Punches) at 3:15 of R2.

  • Lyoto Machida vs. Tito Ortiz

    Round 1: Machida lands the first leg kick, both fighters attempt a kick and missed. Ortiz attempts a takedown and later lands a knee to the head of Machida. Machida continues to land leg kicks. Machida lands a head kick escapes takedown attempts. Machida lands several kicks and takes Ortiz down into side control and lands several punches until the end of the round. CT: 10-9 Machida.

    Round 2: Round two starts with both fighters playing it safe. Machida lands several kicks and avoids strikes from Ortiz. Ortiz is not playing aggressively and seems to be having trouble predicting Machida. Ortiz pulled guard but Machida quickly got back up. Machida lands a knee to the head of Ortiz. Ortiz drops his hands and taunts Machida who lands punches to his head. Ortiz ends the round with a body kick to Machida. CT: 10-9 Machida.

    Round 3: The most exciting part of beginning of this round is when the referee, Yves Lavigne, falls to the ground while running backwards. Machida gets Ortiz in the clinch and Ortiz attempts to take Machida down. Both fighters look tired and are separated by the referee. Machida drops Ortiz with a knee to the body and lands several more punches in Ortiz’ guard. Ortiz gets Machida in a triangle choke, turns it into an arm-bar, where Machida manages to escape. Ortiz ends the round with a few punches to the head of Machida. CT: 10-9 Machida

    Result: Lyoto Machida defeats Tito Ortiz by Unanimous Decision. (30-27 x3)

  • Thiago Silva vs. Antonio Mendes
    Round 1: Round one began with Mendes landing a partially blocked left roundhouse to the head of Silva, which dropped him to the floor. Mendes came out strong, however Silva was able to take Mendes to the ground. Silva had full mount where he landed punch after punch. Finally Mendes had enough and tapped out at 2:24.

    Result: Thiago Silva defeats Antonio Mendes by Tapout (Strikes from the Mount) at 2:24 of R1.

UFC 84: Rich Clementi vs. Terry Etim

Today the UFC announced that Rich “No Love” Clementi will replace the injured Rob Emerson and face Terry Etim on the undercard of UFC 84, May 24 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Clementi is fresh off his split decision win over Sam Stout at UFC 83. Clementi has become the king of the undercard, racking up five strait wins, which included victories over Anthony Johnson, Melvin Guillard and now Sam Stout.

The UFC did not mention any information on the type or extent of Rob Emerson’s injury.
