Urijah Faber vs Jens Pulver Full Fight Video

Uriah Faber vs. Jens Pulver II was a WEC 38 bantamweight fight that took place on January 25, 2009.

The two met previously at WEC 34 in 2008. Uriah Faber won by unanimous decision after a hard fought match.

Pulver lost his next fight, losing by KO to Leonard Garcia in Round 1. Faber lost his next fight, and the WEC belt when he was stopped by Mike Brown in Round 1 by KO. It was time for these two to get it on again.

Round 1: Faber and Pulver meet right in the center. They feel each other out briefly and Faber blasts forward with a front kick to the body. They continue circling, Pulver looking more cautious than Faber. Faber steps in, tries to throw a high kick, and Pulver catches it and takes him down. Pulver hovers over Faber who is throwing several strong upkicks that push Jens back.

Faber gets enough space and jumps up to his feet. Pulver comes in and throws an overhand left that barely misses. As he’s in close, Pulver grabs Uriah into a clinch and attempts to throw knees. Uriah defends and scrambles, until he is able to take Pulver down to the canvas. Pulver immediately fights his way back to his feet, while Faber has a hold of his waist. Uriah tries to land a knee upstairs, but misses. Pulver pushes away, and the two square off again. Faber throws another high kick that Pulver blocks with his glove. Pulver is pushing the action by moving forward, attacking Faber with punches.

Faber avoids his shots and spins Pulver’s back against the cage. Faber pulls Pulver’s neck down and throws a knee. It appears to land, but it doesn’t do much damage. The two separate again. Faber throws a strong right hand but Pulver avoids and throws a counter shot of his own. He misses as well. They engage in the center again. Uriah rushes Pulver with an attempted left hook that he uses to push Jens back into the cage.

Pulver gets his back off of the cage and they both scramble in the clinch. They separate and Uriah throws another high kick. The kick does no damage and Jens moves forward. Jens throws a couple of jabs that miss, then Uriah responds with a couple counter punches.

They don’t look like hard shots, but suddenly Pulver looks dazed on his feet. Uriah sees it and charges Pulver with punches. Pulver is trying to avoid his attack but Faber is relentless. Faber finally catches Pulver with a knee that drops him to the mat. Uriah pounces, dropping punches to the side of Pulver’s face. Pulver grabs one of Uriah’s legs and twists him around, but Uriah grabs Jens neck in a partial guillotine choke and drops down. Uriah is only squeezing his neck for a couple seconds when Pulver quickly taps out. The referee jumps in and separates the two. Uriah Faber is the winner, defeating Jens Pulver by guillotine choke in the 1st Round.

MMA Fight Pit is recognized as one of the premiere mixed martial arts (MMA) promoters in the Western United States. “We’re excited to be the first MMA promotion to be given the honor of holding our event at ‘The Pit,’” stated Fight Pit Co-Owner/Founder Torry Crooks. “Albuquerque is world-famous for MMA, and on August 13th, we’ll see this town and ‘The Pit’ in an uproar. Catching the excitement live and broadcasting it to the world on Pay-Per-View is going to be a monumental event.”

“Thanks to the embracement of our broadcast partners, we are very excited to bring this inaugural MMA event to over 80 million households via cable and satellite,” stated Executive Producer, Brian Ricco. “We plan to blaze the same trail as our predecessors through marketing and our partners’ aggressive placement of this awesome event.”

Houston “The Assassin” Alexander (12-6–2) made a massive splash on the national MMA scene in his first UFC® bout, as he dispatched Jackson’s MMA fighter Keith Jardine in under at minute for a signature win at UFC® 71. He quickly garnered a reputation for his “kill or be killed” mentality in the cage, and garnered a lot of fans and media attention. After a rough stretch that saw him released from the promotion, Alexander has rebounded, winning his last three bouts, with two coming via TKO. At MMA FIGHT PIT: “Genesis,” he will face a fellow UFC® vet in “Razor” Razak Al-Hassan (11-3). A submission specialist and Roufusport fighter, Al-Hassan has competed in the UFC® twice, and is looking to come back from a recent loss that snapped a five-fight win streak.

Jens “Lil’ Evil” Pulver (24-15-1) is a bona fide legend in MMA, and is a pioneer amongst the lighter weight classes. His battles with the likes of Joe “Daddy” Stevenson, Din Thomas, John Lewis, Caol Uno, Dennis “Superman” Hallman, and B.J. Penn, who he beat for the UFC® lightweight strap, helped put the lightweight class on the map. With 19 combined appearances in the UFC®, WEC®, and PRIDE, “Lil’ Evil” has secured his place as one of the most popular lightweight fighters of all time. He’s gone through a rough stretch in recent years, but has won two of his last three bouts, and is looking to continue his winning ways against New Mexico favorite Coty “Ox” Wheeler (14-3). Another veteran of WEC®, Wheeler has finished 13 of his 14 victims, and has only been stopped once in his career. After two losses in the WEC®, Wheeler has come back to win two straight bouts. At “Genesis,” he will look to get the biggest win of his career in his tilt with a legend.

Also populating the PPV main card of MMA FIGHT PIT: “GENESIS”, will be several other notable fights, including a bout between a veteran of TUF and the always controversial Junie “Lunatik” Browning (4-4) and one of the top-ranked fighters in New Mexico, Lenny Lovato (8-1). Browning has developed a reputation as a wild card, and as someone whose actions you can just never predict. His time on The Ultimate Fighter was marked by zany actions that drew the young fighter a lot of attention. After the show, he split two bouts in the UFC® before being released due to his actions outside of the cage. “Lunatik” will now face a very stiff test in Lovato. The Albuquerque native hasn’t competed in the last year, but has won eight of nine bouts to start his career. Now, Lovato will look to add a very famous notch to his belt at MMA FIGHT PIT: “GENESIS”.

Also part of the televised main card will be a middleweight bout between another notorious TUF alum in Jamie Yager (3-2) and unbeaten Jackson’s MMA fighter “Slick” Willie Parks (4-0), as well as a heavyweight scrap between noted finisher Tyler “The Beast” East (9-3) and Chris Guillen (13-12), a fighter who has been competing in MMA since 1997, and has faced notables such as Heath Herring, Shane Carwin, Wes Sims, Ricco Rodriguez, Justin Wren, Brad Imes, Dave Herman, and Ben Rothwell. Rounding out the televised card is the beautiful and dangerous Angelica Diaz (4-0-0) with 4 submissions, a respected specialist in Kajukenbo who trains out of the famed Chavez Dojo in the South Valley who will be facing Colorado Muay Thai specialist Diana Rael (2-1-0).
