Jesse “JT Money” Taylor (13-3) talks about getting that call from Strikeforce to replace Nick Diaz and face Jay Hieron on less then a weeks notice. Taylor has been fighting non-stop (6 fights in 7 months) in smaller shows since being dropped by the UFC.
Jay Hieron has had some bad luck as of late, First Affliction folds, leaving fighters homeless just a little over a week before the scheduled Affliction 3 card. Then Hieron agrees to take the Strikeforce title shot with Nick Diaz instead of signing with the UFC. Finally, Nick Diaz decides not to take a mandatory CSAC drug test, Diaz is out, he will now take on Jesse Taylor as a last minute replacement at Strikeforce “Carano vs Cyborg”.
Strikeforce is benefiting for the demise of Affliction – Jay Hieron (17-4) has apparently signed a multi-fight deal with Strikeforce and will face Nick Diaz for the new Strikeforce welterweight strap, according to MMAWeekly.
Hieron replace Joe Riggs who was forced out of the fight due to an adverse reaction to a drug.
Strikeforce “Carano vs Cyborg” will take place on August 15th for the HP Pavilion in San Jose, CA
MMAWeekly updated their article, nothing is signed, but both fighters have verbally agreed to fight.
