EliteXC News: Nick Diaz Out, Drew Fickett In On Saturday Night (Updated)

MMAweekly is reporting that Nick Diaz has dropped out of Saturday Nights co-promotted Strikeforce/EliteXC “Shamrock vs. Le” event. No reason was given for the last minute change, but luckily Drew Fickett was without an opponent after his fight with Jake Shields was cancelled and will now step in to take on Jae Suk Lim on the televised portion of Saturday nights card.

UPDATE
Sherdog is reporting that Diaz was dropped from the card by the California State Athletic Commission, due to Nick Diaz having a legal “Medical Marijuana” card.

Diaz’s Trainer Cesar Gracie:

“He’s got a medical marijuana card….Nick is a naturalist by heart, He thinks Ritalin is an amphetamine. He thinks that’s really bad for you. People with ADD are kind of hyper, so he has trouble sleeping. He got the medical marijuana card and he takes his pot to go to sleep and be more focused. It’s completely legal in California. Voters voted it in. The commission is actually supposed to obey that, so this will probably open up a legal case. If it was something small, OK, f—- it, whatever. But if they’re not even going to allow him to test clean, that doesn’t make sense. That’s overstepping their boundaries.”

“Not the first mixed martial artist to list marijuana as prescribed medication on CSAC forms.”

“It wasn’t about lateness because I say you definitely can’t pull him off if your own doctor sent it in. We have guys getting licensed today, so you know it’s an outright lie.”

Nick Diaz vs. Jae Lim at EliteXC-Strikeforce on March 29

According to GracieFighter, Nick Diaz will take on Jae “The Korean Ice Pick” Lim at the co-promoted EliteXC-Strikeforce card on March 29 in San Jose, California.

Diaz’s most resent loss was to current EliteXC lightweight champion KJ Noons by TKO (cut) at EliteXC 3: Renegade back in November.

Diaz has since underwent plastic surgery to remove scar tissue around his eyes to hopefully help with cutting during the fight.
