Top light heavyweight Gegard Mousasi and UFC veteran Jake O’Brien have verbally agreed to fight at DREAM 15 set for July 10th from the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan, according to MMAFighting. Mousasi is coming off the biggest loss of his career, losing his Strikeforce light heavyweight title to Muhammed “Mighty Mo” Lawal at Strikeforce “Nashville”
Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi,
“After careful consideration, I have decided that it is in my best interest to part ways with M-1 Global,” Mousasi wrote in the e-mail. “During the time I spent under their wing, M-1 Global, as a promoter and management company, allowed me to achieve many great things. I appreciate all they have done for me.” [Sherdog]
This is great news for fans who are tired of the whole Fedor/M-1 stonewall bullshit. Gegard is one of the more interesting fighters out their and would like to see him take that step up in competition.
He still has a contract with Strikeforce and DREAM, but after that, could we see him inject some energy into the UFC middleweight division?
