Renan Barao defeats McDonald to retain UFC Interim Bantamweight Title

The UFC on Fuel 7 proved to be an entertaining event. Renan Barao retained his interim Bantamweight title by defeating Michael McDonald with an arm triangle choke in the fourth round. However, Barao did not walk through McDonald. McDonald had some flurries in early rounds that definitely did damage to Barao. Nevertheless, in the end, Barao used all his tools and ability to put McDonald away and retain his belt.

Cub Swanson continued his winning ways with a unanimous decision over Dustin Poirier. Swanson did it with his striking, but the last round his impressive ground game sealed Poirier fate. Swanson has now rattled of 4 straight wins, and is moving atop the ranks in the featherweight division.

In other action, James Te-Huna survived a brutal leg kick upside his head by Jimmo followed by a series of nasty punches. Te-Huna quickly turned things around after weathering the storm, and took advantage of a winded Jimmo to get a unanimous decision. Gunnar Nelson and Matthew Riddle also picked up victories in their matches. Jimi Manuwa defeated Cyrille Diabate, when Diabate was unable to continue due to injury. Next up UFC 157!

UFC on Fuel TV: Renan Barao vs. Michael McDonald

This Saturday the Fuel TV 7 card will air from historic Wembley Arena in London. The main event is features Renan Barao going up against Michael McDonald in a battle for the interim bantamweight title.

Che Mills and Matthew Riddle will meet in a welterweight bout. Mills has won 7 of his last 8, with that one lost coming to Rory MacDonald. While Riddle has been dealing with personal obstacles stemming from his drug suspension last year, to the birth of twin daughters.

James Te-Huna will face Ryan Jimmo. These to light-heavyweights both possess loads of KO power. If you recall Ryan Jimmo recorded the fastest KO in UFC history the last time he stepped into the Octagon.

Gunnar Nelson an undefeated BJJ blackbelt will try and keep his perfect MMA record on the line against Jorge Santiago. Santiago has been kind of hit or miss lately, and this will be his first fight back in the UFC.

Jimi Manuwa who is also undefeated in his MMA career with 12 wins and 11 coming by way of KO, will face Cyrille Diabate a former lengthy kickboxer who also has the ability to put you to sleep.

Cub Swanson is on a three fight win streak, and during this streak he has finished every one of his opponents. Dustin Poirer would like to put an end to that in this featherweight match –up.

Finally we have the interim Bantamweight title with Barao going up against McDonald. McDonald is impressive at 15-1 and his last two fights he finished his opponents with impressive KO’s. However he has a huge task in facing Barao who currently holds one of the longest unbeaten streaks in MMA today at 29 fights dating back to 2005.
