Chad Mendes versus Clay Guida for UFC on Fox 7

UFC on Fox 7 is set to happen on April 20, 2013 and as Chad “Money” Mendes received news that Manny Gamburyan is unavailable to fight due to injury, UFC reveals that he will instead face Clay “The Carpenter” Guida. The event will take place at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, USA. The Mendes versus Guida match will be a co headliner to champ Benson Henderson as he fights Strikeforce champion Gilbert Melendez.

Mendes is fresh from his win over Yaotzin Meza at UFC on FX 6 in December 2012. He KO Meza with a terrible punch that kept the fighter stunned in less than two minutes of round one. Prior to Meza, he also KO’d Cody McKenzie at UFC 148 Silva versus Sonnen 2 in July 2012 in just 31 seconds of round one. “Money” enjoys a fantastic professional record of 13 wins and only 1 loss. The 27 year old is a featherweight from Hanford, California.

Clay “The Carpenter” Guida on the other hand is a 31 year old fighter from Round Lake, Illinois. He holds a 30 win and 13 loss professional record. His last fight was a split decision win over Hatsu Hioki at UFC on Fox 6 – Johnson versus Dodson in January 2013. Before his win however, he suffered two back to back losses. The first one was against Benson Henderson at UFC on Fox 1- Velasquez versus Dos Santos in November 2011 and the most recent one was with Gray Maynard via split decision headline fight in June 2012. Guida is one of a few fighters that have made it big at MMA. He has been a professional fighter for a decade now and has been able to defeat amazing fighters like Nate Diaz, Anthony Pettis, Takanori Gomi, Rafael dos Anjos and many more at UFC. He has also fought great athletes in Strikeforce, WEC, XFO and at XKK at the beginning of his professional career.

Hacran Dias Out, It’s Chad Mendes versus Yaotzin Meza

Hacran Dias will not be facing Chad Mendes at UFC on FX 6 which will take place this Friday, December 14, 2012 due to an undisclosed injury. He will be replaced by new UFC fighter Yaotzin Meza.

It was Meza’s management who confirmed that Dias will not be fighting at the next UFC bout and instead Mendes will be welcoming Meza at the Octagon at the Gold Coast Convention Centre in Gold Coast, Australia.

Meza was interviewed regarding this fight and he said: “This is a huge opportunity for me. I am thankful that the UFC is opening this door. I can’t wait to get to Australia, step into the Octagon and show that I belong in this organization” Meza added: “I’ve been training hard already, helping Benson to prepare for his fight with Diaz, so there won’t be a huge adjustment for me to get ready for this fight.”

Yaotzin Meza is a featherweight from Phoenix, Arizona, USA. He currently holds 18 wins and 7 losses. Although his recent fight was a defeat against Andres Quintana in WMM – Region 4 –Round 1 in April 2012 he had 6 consecutive wins since 2010. He was an impressive fighter in Rage in the Cage and in Desert Rage Full Contact Fighting where he was able to submit fighters like Eric Regan and Brandon Shelton. This may be his first UFC exposure but Meza hopes he could make a grand entrance by beating Chad Mendes.

Chad “Money” Mendes on the other hand is a 27 year old featherweight from Hanford, California, United States and he currently has 12 wins and only 1 loss in his professional MMA career. He was in terrific form when he defeated Cody McKenzie in UFC 148 – Silva versus Sonnen 2 in July 2012 when he managed to KO McKenzie in just 31 seconds of round 1. Before this impressive fight, he suffered his only defeat in the hands of Jose Aldo in UFC 142 in a headline fight in January 2012. Since he began his pro career in MMA in 2008 he has managed to take down and defeat superb fighters like Cub Swanson, Anthony Morrison, Erik Koch, Mike Joy, Rani Yahya, Michihiro Omigawa and Javier Vazquez to name a few. Mendes is hoping to do his best despite the fight’s short notice. News regarding Dias’ injury remains to be revealed.

Battery Charge Dropped for Chad Mendes

Chad Mendes, UFC featherweight was charged with battery in a California court. However, it was dismissed Monday when Mendes pleaded no-contest to a lesser charge. The fighter’s camp recently announced the news of his latest developments.

To remember, Chad Mendes was formally charged on August 24 for his alleged involvement in a bar fight in Hanford, California in July 29. The UFC fighter was faced a $2,000 fine and a sentence of up to 6 months in county jail if he faced conviction for the said crime.

Mendes however turned everything around when he plead no contest to a misdemeanor charge of fighting in a public place. According to a report from the local Hanford Sentinel, the fighter was placed on formal probation and was only fined $560 after his plea. The Hanford Sentinel was the first to report Mendes’ arrest. Reports mentioned that on the day of the incident, July 29, Mendes was seen punching another person at the Lacey Inn Bar and then he was also seen fleeing from the scene.

When he was interviewed regarding the incident, Mendes mentions in the interview: “I have said from the beginning that the ridiculous allegations published by the media were either false or incredibly sensationalized.” Mendes further adds: “[Monday’s] outcome proves it.”
