After a week of intense negotiations and speculation, the hottest topic of discussion in the professional fight world has come to a head as the world’s number one heavyweight and most sought after mixed martial arts (MMA) champion Fedor “The Last Emperor” Emelianenko has signed a historic, multi-fight agreement that will see him headline mega-events co-promoted by world championship promotions STRIKEFORCE and M-1 Global.

Emelianenko, known globally as Fedor, will make his premium television debut this Fall when his first fight under the new agreement airs live on SHOWTIME®. Up until now, Emelianenko’s live fights have aired exclusively on pay-per-view in the United States.

“I am looking forward to going back to work and fighting at the highest level,” said the 33-year-old Emelianenko. During his nine year professional fight career, which included a four and a half year stay with the world’s former top MMA promotion, the now defunct PRIDE Fighting Championship, the Russian native has faced and defeated all comers.

In his last effort, the 6-foot, 235-pound Emelianenko decimated the number two ranked heavyweight at the time Andrei “The Pitbull” Arlovski with a single punch in the first round (3:14) of the main event of Affliction: “Day of Reckoning” at Anaheim, California’s Honda Center on January 24.

“STRIKEFORCE is a top fight promotion that houses some of the greatest fighters in the world,” continued Emelianenko. “I am prepared to fight any of them.”

“We are extremely excited to have the opportunity to work with M-1 Global and Fedor,” said STRIKEFORCE Founder and CEO Scott Coker, a martial arts fight promoter of over 25 years. “Fedor has been the reigning king of MMA’s heavyweight division for quite some time now so being able to work with M-1 and Fedor will substantially increase the level of competition amongst the athletes in this weight class.”

“With the addition of Fedor and STRIKEFORCE’s new relationship with M-1 Global, SHOWTIME is now the home of the best pound-for-pound male and female fighters in the world,” said Ken Hershman, Senior VP and General Manager of SHOWTIME Sports®. “The Aug. 15 Carano-Cyborg matchup on SHOWTIME will clearly determine the best female mixed martial artist on the planet. Then, come this Fall, our subscribers again will witness history when the universally recognized best male fighter-Fedor Emelianenko-joins the already long list of world-class athletes on the STRIKEFORCE roster, and for the first time ever plies his skills live on SHOWTIME.”

Hershman continued: “We are better positioned now than ever before to deliver on our promise to televise the top fighters in mixed martial arts today.”

“I am very happy and excited about the upcoming collaboration with Strikeforce,” said Vadim Finkelchtein, President of M-1 Global. “We are very pleased that we found a reliable partner and I feel that Strikeforce and M-1 can support each other on many things. This will create big opportunities for both parties to test their fighters against worthy opponents.”

Though his official professional record is 30-1, Emelianenko is considered undefeated. The only blemish on his record is a December 22, 2000 fight that was stopped after 17 seconds and declared a TKO in favor of his opponent, Tsuyoshi Kohsaka, due to a cut Emelianenko sustained in the opening seconds of the matchup in Osaka, Japan.

Amongst those on Emelianenko’s list of impressive conquests are former PRIDE Heavyweight Champions Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira, Mark “The Hammer” Coleman, and Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic as well as former UFC Heavyweight Champions Kevin “The Monster” Randleman and Tim Sylvia, whom Emelianenko submitted with a rear naked choke only 36 seconds into their main event showdown at Affliction: “Banned” on July 19, 2008.

Despite his extensive experience, Emelianenko’s debut under the new STRIKEFORCE-M-1 venture will, interestingly enough, mark his first start in a cage. To date, all of his bouts have taken place in a ring.

After co-promoting two events live on SHOWTIME in 2007 and 2008, STRIKEFORCE in March 2009 signed a multi-year agreement to stage live MMA events on the premium cable television network.

Comments

  1. The big question, who is he going to fight? Brett Rogers? then who.

I hope Strikeforce isn't getting in over their heads with Fedor.

  2. They have got to set him up with Overeem. Isn't he the current Heavyweight Champ for Strikeforce?

  3. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  4. This is so gay what a pussy

  5. Fedor has lost pretty much all credibility in my opinion until he fights top 10 talent and you know the UFC currently has 6 of the 10 top ranked HWGHTS so who does he fight? FUcking Nobodies again….Fedor is a pussy, i though a man of his caliber and skill would want to fight the best of the best which he even states in this message which is total BS, how can you fight the best in the world when you will not fight for the UFC which holds at least 6 of the top 10 HWGHTS in the world today….he is dodging real competition and for that i can not respect him nor should the rest of the MMA world as any fight he wins for now on is tainted and just plain silly, i hope some no name beats him….

Whatever life goes on and the UFC will still make millions and billions more than Fedor and M-1 will ever see in their lifetimes.

    Stupid Fedor….

  6. Who fucking cares…..Fedor's done. He had his run. He should be dropping out of the p4p category with lack of good fights. Fedor will always have a question mark above his head.

  7. This is probably Fedor's way of getting tune up fights in a Cage atmosphere as This will mark his first start in a cage. To date, all of his bouts have taken place in a ring.

I am sure that Fedor didnt want to have to fight the UFC talent as in Lesnar in his first time in a cage…..I dont know maybe the UFC has not seen the last of Fedor as maybe these are indeed tune up fights before he sign with the UFC to get used to a cage enviroment.

Naw, what am i saying Fedor is a warrior and would fight anyone at any location in any situation…thats right folks he is just a straight out PUSSY!!!

  8. Rusty Kuntz says:

Overeem would be probably be the first oponent. Then maybe Werdum followed by Rogers. Then they will continue to throw pointlessly hyped matches like Arlovski vs Fedor II, Ninja Rua, all this before Diaz agrees to fight him at a catch weight. Seriously, the only thing Strikeforce can hope is that Fedor will attract more talent to their orgranization and as a business decision it might make better sense for Fedor. However, as a fighter, it's a shitty move.

  9. i dont think fedor and finkelstein understand the amount of money they would've made in the ufc. they would've been gettin huge cuts in pay per view sales…now they can just kiss all that good bye. lesnar v fedor would've been the biggest fight in mma history and fedor would've made at 12 mil for that 1 fight win or lose.

now he has just lost a ton of money, respect, and credibility. i hope fans boo him when he comes out to fight his first fight. people are gunna be talkin more shit about him now than they do about brock.

  10. After the new T.U.F. series there will be a slew of new Heavyweights and it will morph into an exciting weight class of young hungry fighters along with some old lions. The UFC will market the hell out of the new and improved HW Division and I'm certain Fedor will be watching along with everyone else. Strikeforce is not a bad venue, but it really cannot compare to the UFC on any level, and as more and more of the top names wind up there and the weaker fighters that get the boot wind up in Strikeforce, it will take its toll on Fedor. He yearns for glory and even though he is currently considered number one, those rankings will sag as he fights lesser competition. I think, even with this news there is a solid chance that Fedor will eventually wind up with the UFC, if not for the money then certainly for the glory.

  11. AFRAIDOR MILLIONERKO says:

I called it, I called it, called it!!!! I told you he was gonna ride finkelf@#k's pussy to where ever it led him!

…."I am looking forward to going back to work and fighting at the highest level"….Are you SERIOUS?! Really Fedork?…. THEY'RE the highest level?! Did Finkelstink sell you that, too?….W-O-W!. And I love Strikeforce's comment…"SHOWTIME is now the home of the best pound-for-pound male and female fighters in the world,” Yeah, ONE male and the ONLY females!….Next to go down….? R.I.P. Strike-farce. Enjoy!

  12. I disagree. I know Fedor has defeated many great fighters in his career, but this just makes no sense…unless he is scared of Lesnar. Then it makes a lot of sense.

    Of course…Fedor is avoiding Lesnar!

  13. Fedor is the biggest pussy ever to fight in MMA. Fedor lovers can even admit that fedor is a pussy now

  14. I hope someone KO's Fedor's ass in StrikeForce…

  15. Give me one reason why the UFC should ever co promote with another organization especially after the UFC are the ones who sacrificed and have made MMA what it is today…funny thing is if it were not for the UFC many of you out there wouldnt even know who FEDOR was…simple fact end of story.

No other organization deserves to be in the same class as the UFC, you think the UFC is going to co promote with no bodies so to help recongnize their names…and ruin what the UFC has worked so hard to accomplish.. Hell no, co promotion is out of the question and the UFC doesnt need Fedor as bad as Fedor needs the UFC..

  16. Well said, Tim…

  17. I've been a strong supporter of Fedor, and whether he fights in the UFC doesn't change my outlook that he is the best HW in the world. Whether he has the drive seems to be another question. I'm pretty boggled at this decision. I can't imagine that Strikeforce offered more money, so it's obviously NOT about money. Either he is afraid, which I don't think he is, or he really has no say about what he does. There has been that talk about the Russian Mafia being involved and such. So who knows. I am very disappointed in this, but will still watch him decimate the maybe 3 good HW's Strikeforce has.

  18. who gives a shit! strikeforce is the number 2 organization in MMA right now.

    better than Dream NO?

this was clear and not Fedor's first choice Strikeforce opted to Co-promote something the UFC was not willing to do.

cant blame Fedor's camp as the best deal for them did come along. This is not about fighting it is about money.

By the way Strikeforce does pay larger purses to their star fighters or big names.

Remember Kimbo made 500K for getting tko'd by Seth.

Let Fedor fight Overeem, Rodgers, Werdum and even AA again WHO GIVES A FUCK

  19. Strikeforce it going to take a huge hit by allowing a co promotion with M1, but at the same time their pockets are deep. What they should realize is that by looking like a bitch who ducked the best competition, I don't think Fedor is even going to be as big of a draw. I sure as hell don't want to see him fight Rogers or Overeem.

  20. True, better Strikeforce than DREAM. I really don't want to see Hong Man Choi / Fedor II.

  21. I'm the only one who is glad that the UFC hasn't signed Fedor it seems.

Dana White is an Ass the fact that you lot believe he offers Fedor anywhere near good money is stupid (look at what Brock made in UFC 100)

your all nuthugging the UFC…. who knows if Overeem is not better than Lesnar? no one…

  22. PoppyNick says:

I was a Fedor fan and believed he was the best…..but WTF. Seems like a pussy move to me and his promotor is a tool.

  23. Overeem? What are you drunk? Watch his Pride Fights.

Lesnar may be short on everything except for Wrestling, but I have never seen speed, and power like that in MMA. He played with Mir. Only Fedors match against Hong Man Choi makes me believe he could overcome such an encounter, and Choi has none of Lesnars speed or Wrestling ability.

What will be interesting is watching Fedors ranking tumble now that he's ducknig the Major Leauges…

  24. Timmie… Pride was a long time ago… people improve… look at Mir getting Armbarred by Mir first time.

Lesnar has Wrestling… nothing more, hes just a big coleman with Less Experience and more to submit.

  25. Lesnar getting getting submitted** sorry tired :D

  26. Overeem is good and so is the production and fight of Strikeforce. But come on noone on here can say they want to see Fedor fight Overeem or Rogers over Lesnar or Couture. Strikeforce can produce great fights in every other division other than HW.

  27. Fedor is a pussy. I'm so happy he has slapped all of you loyal pole riders in the face. Take a good look at your coward hero.

  28. I'm sorry but right now… UFC heavyweight is shit….

    WRESTLER

    WRESTLER

    WRESTLER

    WWE

    WWE

sorry but i watch MMA for Martial Arts… not for someone lying on top of someone.

that is the way UFC is at the moment and its boring for me.

  29. Businessman says:

Timmie, Overeem improved a lot. He is a monster. Really he is only fight for Fedotr in Strikeforce because Brett is unproven but it is not like the UFC has a stable of HW fighters that Fedor has to go through to prove how good he is. The only 2 that I would like to see him fight is Lesnar and Carwin. Cain would be interesting but he is still a little unexpereinced. Fedor would kill every other UFC HW – Randy, Kongo, Crocop, etc. With the exception of Lesnar, Overeem, and Carwin, he cleared out the division. Why sell out for 5 fights to the UFC when they don not have 5 fighters that could challenge him. Like GSP and Silva, the division is pretty much cleaned out. So for anyone saying that he is ducking the UFC fighters, there is not much there for him to duck. It really boils down to business and ego. As much shit as Dana has talked about him in the past, I would not want to work for that asshole neither.

I don't agree with everything that the other orgs have done: the Kimbo fraud, marketing Gina when she can't make weight once so she is fighting women 20 pounds lighter than her, letting Canseco and no skill freaks like Choi fight….but I would rather pay for and watch my monthly UFC event and still have the other shows to fill in the rest of the month. In a perfect world, all the best fighters would fight each other, but this is not a perfect a world and people have choices. If fedor would rather help build up his M1 promotion than be bought by the UFC, it is his choice.

  30. OK, thats a good point.

  31. http://sherdogblog.craveonline.com/blog/2009-08-0

says all i really need to say on such a topic, and as one of the best MMA writers and knowledgeable people in MMA that he is… I find myself agreeing with every word Jake Rossen says.

  32. *STRIKEFORCE NEWS* says:

Strikeforce’s CEO Coker : FEDOR UNLIKELY TO GET IMMEDIATE TITLE SHOT.

Most likely he will face either Brett Rogers or Fabricio Werdum in his first bout with Strikeforce.

  33. He'll probably lose to Overeem anyway. Rogers and Wierdum are safer fights for him to keep his so called invincible status.

  34. *STRIKEFORCE NEWS* says:

Strikeforce’s CEO Coker : FEDOR UNLIKELY TO GET IMMEDIATE TITLE SHOT.

Most likely he will face either Brett Rogers or Fabricio Werdum in his first bout with Strikeforce.

Also, Jake Shields will fight for the Strikeforce interim title in October.

  35. *STRIKEFORCE NEWS* says:

Fabricio Werdum will face Mike Pyle at Strikeforce on August 15.
