Nate Diaz: Bother Nick Is Set On Retirement

UFC lightweight Nate Diaz talks with Ariel Helwani about his main event fight with Jim Miller at UFC On FOX 3 and bother Nicks retirement.

Nick was suspended by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) for a positve test for Marijuana following his loss to Carlos Condit at UFC 143. Nate explains whats next,

“Triathalon season is starting so he’s getting ready, getting in shape for that and concentrating on being in shape, being healthy and helping me out and coaching me for this fight [against Jim Miller]. Right now, I don’t think [we will see him back inside the Octagon]. He’s big on, like I said, staying in shape and just being healthy right now. He’s not worried about it. I think he’s retired. He hasn’t been into this whole fighting thing for some time … since everything that goes on with the funny wins and losses. And not just for him, but for people on our team. So, I just think he’s relaxed right now, you know? I think he’s pretty set on his retirement, though. I kind of agree with him [about his decision]. It’s hard to say — he’s my brother. I’m not going to tell him to go fight somebody. I think he’s doing the right thing. He made enough money to just chill back, sit back and relax. People don’t understand: Nick never had nothing. He came from not much, so when he complained a lot about not making a lot of money it’s because there were so many people making more money than him and he works 10 times hard than them. So, they definitely paid him enough money to not have to anything. He doesn’t need to fight.” [MMAFighting]

What do you think, is Nick Diaz done fighting?

I don't blame him. I was frustrated just watching that fight. It was a game of tag and run.

    • Aldo Raine says:

Perfect strategy in my opinion. I enjoyed watching it. It reminded me of Franky Edgar vs BJ Penn.

      • It was the perfect strategy. But not perfect for a champion.

Tell me how many times Frankie Edgar turned his back on BJ Penn VS. how many times Condit turned his back on Diaz?

One showed he was skilled and out classed the other guy and in the other fight we have a guy who was instructed to strategically win a five rounder by points. I was a hardcore Condit fan but that wasn't the fighter that I was a fan of in the WEC.

  2. G.B.Hamerick says:

Seems that everyone saw the condit /diaz fight through different colored glasses, but that cool everybody has their own opinion, mine is condit lost. But that aside now we have condit and the paper champ set for a match in November? I guess condit needs that time to recoup from his leg cramps that he got in the diaz fight. The fight in November will just be a rabbit race, personally i will not get the PPV i will read about it on the net the next day. The scoring system needs a definite overhaul but dana will let it stands because it creates controversy and dana loves that.

  3. Diaz had no reason to retire because everyone was cheering for him in that fight. Yeah you lost but so what. Learn how to fight a guy like Condit because every single fighter learned how to beat Diaz that night.

  4. Hw won't retire. He has no choice for now but to do triatholon and other sports until he could fight again. I love Nick Diaz the fighter but he does some stupid ass things when he is not fighting. He seemed like a great guy when I met him at a BJJ event in 2005 but he needs to put that weed down.
