MMA News: UFC To Buy The IFL

By CagE | July 17, 2008

ufc purchasing IFL

I didn’t see this one coming. Reported on MMAPayout, The UFC is apparently purchasing the International Fight League (IFL).

The IFL has a large stable of young talent, some of which we are already seeing fight for the UFC (Horodecki, Blackburn, Markham, and Gusmao).

A Senior Producer at HDNet’s Inside MMA tells MMAPayout.com that the IFL will be bought by the UFC.

MMAPayout.com has confirmed talks between the IFL and UFC.

LOL they will probally not even do much with the IFL. They are just gonna drain the fighters that have talent out of it and fill them into UFC fight nights. So basically it is like a stepping stone to get into the UFC. Like a single a farm club for baseball.

I bet the UFC bought that for bottom dollar. They have a sense for taking over when theres nothing left. Steve’s right, they will take talent like Horodecki and Heiron and leave most fighters unemployed.

Congrats you boys are catching on. The would only buy such a horrible promotion for only one thing, thats to keep it out of the hands of EliteXC and Affliction. They will take the contracts, and send most of the fighters either home or to WEC. The big point is that the UFC keeps the best and then little promotions like Elite can have the scraps like Kimbo, and keep putting on mediocre shows that proves to the world that the UFC is the only place to see the best MMA. So after they but this, affliction will go to the wayside, and then soon enough Elite will collapse as well. Well played Dana and Lorenzo, finish them all off.

[...] community that HDnet may have an ace up their sleeve with this purchase. A couple months ago it was rumored that the big daddy of them all, the UFC, was actually going to pick up the IFL but it seems that [...]
