MMA News: Fedor Emelianenko Signs With M-1

fedor

According to The Fight Network, Fedor Emelianenko has exclusively committed to fight with Mix Fight Championships (M-1). He is rumored to fight in January or February.

“PRIDE heavyweight champion Fedor Emelianenko has committed exclusively to the new ownership of M-1 Mix-Fight Championship, which has been purchased outright by an undisclosed American entertainment-related company, according to a source close to the deal who spoke on the condition of anonymity.”

The source confirmed the new ownership has infused a substantial amount of capital into the organization. Finkelstein and others will stay on to assist in running the company, which will continue to promote under a variation of the M-1 name. The new M-1 will take more of a global stance, and Emelianenko (26-1) will headline its inaugural event as early as January or February, possibly in the U.S., the source said.
On March 27, Ultimate Fighting Championship majority owners Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta bought the assets of PRIDE, only to discover Emelianenko had previously signed a non-exclusive, non-transferable contract with its former owners, Dream Stage Entertainment.

With this news, chances of seeing Fedor ever fight some of the best heavyweights in the world are starting to fade.

  1. This sucks big time, I can't believe Fedor is not signing with a big company. Anyone who ever wanted to know how good Fedor is, we'll never know, he'll never fight any UFC fighters.

  2. I thought that all ball players wanted to work their way up from the Minors to the Major Leagues. It sounds like this Minor League ball player wants to stay in the Minors and be a star rather than prove his worth in The Big Show and make the big bucks. Does A-Rod want to play baseball in the minors? No, He's in the Majors where he belongs. So why does Fedor choose to? The UFC is the cream of the crop when it comes to MMA. The BEST in the world fight in the Octagon. The best of the rest fight everywhere else. Who is Fedor going to fight? MMA journeymen? Local Russian Stars? Fedor will fight a bunch of "who is he's?" He'll continue to win while adding no losses to his resume but…nobody will care because he's fighting guys nobody cares about. Good Luck in the Minors Fedor. Maybe we'll get to see you fight somebody we know, someday, in the Big Boy Octagon…I'm not holding my breath though.

  3. damn chris,are u a ucf groupie or what????

if you dont know m1 was bought by mark cuban,he has more money than ufc 80 times, and he will beat ufc, remember ufc its nothing but a bias and one owner company who decides who fights who, since it has more media coverage and more air time does not mean its the best,if anything pride wast he best,i am not saying that, its a fact,i am a follower of both since day one, what the ufc did,its the same as walmart, but the competition and the burn it to the ground so you will be the only one standing…….by the way check salaries from ufc,and the check M1….you'll see!!

  4. Did Mark Cuban really buy M1 or is that just a rumor?

  5. It was easy for Fedor. They made him a multi-million dollar deal and they've included him in a organization that hopes to be one of the UFCs main competitors. Doing that opposed to being just another Pride guy being used as cannon fodder for the UFC, I might have done the same thing. M-1 plans to start snagging UFC fighters as their contracts run out over the next couple of years. The cracks around the Castle Walls of the UFC are starting to show.

  6. Thats just a rumor Realwun

  7. Soundboy1 says:

Fedor went where the money is. Can you blame him? When is couture's contract up?i think he retired from the ufc so he could fight fedor. Dana is talking so much crap becuse he could not sign fedor. If it works out i have a feeling we may see the fight everyone wants to see.

  8. I heard UFC was offering fedor $1.5 – $2 million per fight. I didnt think any other company no matter the owner would pay more than that

  9. I doubt is was anywhere close to those numbers, none of us know for sure so I can't say 100%….but Im a betting man and I would bet Fedor wasn't offered anywhere near those numbers…according to Dana BS White Chuck is the most paid fighter at $500,000 a fight, that was also the amount Chuck earned shown by Bodog? or something like that per fight.

  10. Yeah, I heard 2 million too and I don't think that would have been a stretch to bring in Fedor, he is the most anticipated fighter in the world.

This was a rumor, but I heard Dana was willing to pay Fedor this amount as long as he lost his first fight to Couture.

I know, sounds like a stretch, but remember Noguiera vs. Herring…that looked like a setup when Herring knocked Noguiera down and didnt pound on him, he let him stand back up.

  11. I heard Santa Clause offered Aunt Jemima $10, 000 to make romantic explosions on her face but that might not be true either….stay tuned. I heard Dana was fighting Chuck next week, but only if Chuck promised to lose…..I know you people aren't this stupid for real.

  12. Fedor would be going public with such an offer to throw a fight, there's more drama and gossip on here then Melrose Place.

  13. no

  14. Was bisPIG and Hamil not a setup?

  15. Bisping and hamill was a prime example of the need for a consistent scoring system, you would have realized that when Fitch and Sanchez was a split decision….iwas wrong you must be very uneducated.

  16. Quote from UFC 76 Dana White and Vanderlay Silva "I saw Vanderlay inbetween the 2nd and 3rd round of the Jardine/Lidell fight and asked what he though about the fight, Silva said he thought Chuck was winning, I couldn't believe it so i invited him to come watch from where I was sitting…that's when he started to get doubts wheter or not he would be fighting Chuck"

We can finish this silly discussion when your mom picks you up from school and your big sisters done with the computer.

  17. Have any fights been fixed in the UFC at anytime? probably….sports corruption is huge because so much money is involved…..but to sit here and say "Oh I heard if he signed he had to lose his first fight" are you an idiot? Like I just said a lot of money is involved in sports…..these people rarely get caught and if and when they do, it was because the athletes themselves come forward or a seperate company was setup by the sport to monitor for it…..hamill was pissed and 100% correct for being pissed, a setup involves both athletes or one athlete agreeing to throw it, or the judges being paid off……if you want to talk about any potential for corruption in the Bisping/Hamill fight it would be the judges taking some form of payment…and that's more realisitc and a whole other story. But I chalk these silly judging errors up to an unconsistent scoring method, some think the ground game is equally important where as others do not.

  18. Yup theyve been fixed before and your just plain dumb if you dont think so. If you think thats bull then tell me why. Check Herrings payday when he fought Noguiera on top of the fact that he was already set up to fight again a week later, but chose to take time off. Go watch that fight again and tell me it didnt look like a setup for Noguiera to win.

  19. "tell me it did'nt look like a setup"

your opinion and your a hippocrit for telling others they are just providing their opinion, provide facts for your story otherwise go back to bed lil girl.

  20. This site has to be getting the dumbasses that have been banned from MMA News or something because I haven't seen so many retards since that little white bus went by this morning. I will unbookmark this site and leave you children to your BS shannigans.

  21. Well, it would make sense. I hate to use him as an example, but check out CroCop. Won the 2006 Grand Prix in Pride.. only to come over and fight like shit. Look at Shogun. AMAZING fighter. He fought like trash. I think the UFC is paying fighters to fight like shit and lose so they will look like a better MMA org. Say what you want about Pride, but you can watch videos of the fighters when they were in pride and when they are in UFC. It's not that the UFC fighters are just that much better. See Rampage. They knew Chuck was wanting to retire. So, they stopped feeding him people he could beat easily.

  22. How about Rampage coming over and dominating the biggest star in the UFC. Or Anderson Silva destroying Rich Franklin twice. If the UFC was paying Pride guys to lose they would not have let two of their biggest names get dominated by Pride fighters. Bad calls and bad decisions, like Bisbing over Hamill and Ortiz over Griffin are a part of sports, always have been. That however does not mean the fights are fixed.

  23. How can you say the UFC fed Chuck fighters he could easily beat. Jeremy Horn and Tito Ortiz are not pushovers not to mention Chuck did beat Randy twice. Is Randy one of the easy fights they fed Chuck?

  24. I'll tell you what happened. Chuck was confident he could beat Rampage…he did it once he could do it again. He could have beat RAmpage but he decided to play into Ramps gameplan which was to get Chuck to stop counterpunching and start initiating the strikes. Then Ramp counterpunched and it was lights out. Juanito came with a good gameplan and Chuck fell into it, all it took was some taunting on Ramps part.

Same with Franklin. In Pride Anderson Silva was good, but he was not in his prime yet. He even got dominated by a smaller fighter in Chonan. He made a quick name for himself and Dana threw him at Rich thinking it would make him look like a guy to give up-and-commers a chance and also would make a good win for Rich. They didn't think Anderson was as good as he has shown.

One thing you have to know, when there is money and betting involved, there will be cheating and thrown fights. Baseball….steroids. Basketball…betting refs. Football…spies on the oponents sidelines. Boxing…Don King(Holyfield vs. Lewis I).

  25. Good points. The only think is Rampage won Liddell in their first fight too. Personally, I don't think Dana fixes fights. What I do think is that when he likes an up-and-comer, he will fix them with a few easy fights to get their name out. Dana must have a marketing degree or something because thats what he likes to do.

  26. matt hamill whooped bisbings ass bloody, thats all i have to say about that]

  27. this isnt a business….this is a sport and a way of life

  28. I don't like to think I am a conspiracy theorist, but anyone who EVER saw Shogun fight in pride has to wonder what was goin' on in the UFC. In all the fights I have ever seen, Shogun's cardio was never an issue. Please explain how he was so winded he looked drunk out there. Since Pride is essentially a round longer than UFC, why was he suddenly unable to go the distance? It just doesnt smell right.

  29. Yeah i heard some dumbass say that the nogueira and herring fight looked setup up because herring just let him stand back up…what the hell is this douche bag taking about, herring lands the kick, minotaro falls down, and herring tries as desperatly as he can to knock nogueria out, but he fails like every man that has tried to know him out before, in case you didnt know, nogueria has never been knocked out, or submitted, and he will destroy ANYTHING the vagina inlaid UFC has to offer. I wish my beloved pride fighters, didnt have to be disgraced, but steping in the homo octagon, thats all, FEDOR OWNS ALL! out

  30. Wow I didn't know Ryan Seacrest knew so much about MMA…oh wait, thats right, you don't know shit. OUT

  31. I don't believe so many people think there's so many fixed fights. Before you say I'm blind or stupid, or "Did you watch the ….fight?" Or "Have you seen……fight in Pride?"

Listen, these fighters are all human beings. Every once in a while (it's inevitable) they are going to give a bad performance. As you all know, There are many factors to be considered. As far as "set-up's," from time to time, some unsuccessful fighter or some washed up fighter looking for a quick payday might enter a fight and give a half assed effort and lose quickly before they acquire too much damage. But that's all in the decision of the individual fighter and really shouldn't be considered a fixed fight. Other than that, I think some of you are really over thinking things.

Ryan: I understand your allegiance to one venue. It sounds like you don't think much of the UFC, or should I say the "homo UFC." I'm not judging you (and maybe your a woman, I'm not sure) but unless you are a homo yourself, you'd know the term "Vagina inlaid" is actually a compliment. ;)

  32. To me it seemed like a setup but ryan does have a point saying that the guy may have just missed an opportunity. It happends, this isnt the WWE where things are scripted. I have heard from smaller organizations that the favorites are tipped to win by the higher ups, thats why I wouldnt assume not everything in fighting is totally up in the air. I hope the UFC is above that though, especially when I drop 50 dollars a month to watch their shows.

  33. Fedor is too stuborn. He's not thinking. No one will remember his name unless he joins the UFC. Lets face it UFC in the NFL superbowl of MMA. It's too bad cause the guy is good but we will only remeber the Couture's and the Lidelle's and the Rampage's. Sad but true.

  34. patrickgamil says:
