Joe Riggs Leaves WEC For Strikeforce

By CagE | September 10, 2007

The Fight Network is reporting, Joe “Diesel” Riggs has asked WEC promoters to release him from the remainder of his contract, so he can pursue a better contract with Strikeforce. Apparently Riggs has signed a contract with Strikeforce to fight on the September 29, Playboy Manson Card. He will likely be fighting for the Strikeforce welterweight title against 41 year old Eugene Jackson.

“The seven-time UFC veteran says he recently asked promoters Zuffa LLC. to release him from a four-fight co-promotional contract with its sister organization World Extreme Cagefighting to pursue more lucrative offers that would entail less fights.”

Apparently Joe Riggs gets no respect from the WEC.

“They didn’t strip [featherweight champion] Urijah Faber or [light heavyweight champion] Doug Marshall, whoever he is, and then they let a fighter I already beat fight for my title,” says Riggs.”

“I feel like I’m the Rodney Dangerfield of this sport,” says Riggs. “I’ve beat Kendall Grove, Nick Diaz, and Chris Lytle, but all people can remember is me getting knocked out by Diego Sanchez. “
