Is The UFC Is Putting A Wedge Between Fighter’s and Managers?

According to a recent report on Sherdog, the UFC is cutting backstage access to certain managers and agents at live UFC events. What is interesting is the fact that this is not a general rule for agents and managers, but a cherry picking by the UFC to who’s representative has access to its fighters.

five separate fighter representatives and their firms that spoke to Sherdog.com, two said they were told that credentials would no longer be doled out to them shortly after UFC 94 on Jan. 31. These firms were also denied backstage access in person at UFC Fight Night 17, UFC 95 and UFC 96, as well as WEC 39, which took place March 1 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

One representative is quoted.

“You don’t ask questions of them. You know how that goes … They’re divisively trying to split management and fighters …. They’re trying to de-power the managers and agents to create a wedge between them. They give locker room bonuses and say, ‘This is from Dana [White] and the UFC — nobody else.’ They’re telling fighters they can go directly to them. They’re telling fighters they’ll be doing sponsorships themselves in the near future that will put the managers and agents out of business. They’re trying to minimize the managers’ and agents’ role in the fighter’s life so they can better control salaries.”

This is not the first underhanded thing the UFC has done in the past. I’m sure that if the UFC had its way, all fighter sponsorships would have to be brokered trough the UFC. Depending on fighter, the sponsorships could be as much as or more then their UFC salaries.

Good for the UFC. F*ck managers and blood sucking agents!!! The fewer hands in the cookie jar, the better for everyone.

  2. i dout that juan, agents try to get there fighters more money this seems like another move from the ufc to control there fighters.

    juan blanco?= dana white

  3. Hmmm i somewhat agree with both of you…you see the UFC wants less bodies around backstage wether or not this is a ploy to get rid of agents all together they did state that some agents wont be aloud backstage and some will…Meaning there just picking and choosing who they want backstage with the fighters…which honestly is up to them as they are putting on the show and fighter is fighting for them not there agent/manager. The UFC i believe wants to establish a seperate ops for managment of clients/fighters and become a great phenom for the MMA/sports world…i see it coming first the game rights, then the UFC gyms and now this..its only a matter of time before the managers are working for the UFC and single handingly marketing there own fighters in the UFC.

  4. thats the problem tim, yeah it would be great for the ufc and thats about it.

  5. Juan Blanco says:

The only reason agents try to get THEIR fighters more money is because it makes more money for the agents Roy. They don't give a damn how much the fighters make. Agents are responsible for Fedor not being in the UFC, and fighters thinking they can be models and movie stars instead of fighting.

Thanks for the compliment. Dana is DA MAN!

Plus, they aren't saying fighters can't have agents. They just don't want those douche bags in the locker room. I can't blaim them.

  6. Juan you are right about the agents making more money for themselves, however more money for the agent equals more money for the fighters. You are also correct that agents are keeping Fedor from fighting in the UFC, his agents are doing such a good job fighting in the UFC would be taking a pay cut. Fedor gets the maximum payout for his fights plus a percentage of PPV. Which equals far more than he can make with the UFC. I heard, & someone can correct me on this if I'm wrong, that when Fedor fought Sylvia in Affliction he made $500,00 plus the PPV % which took his earnings to over 3 million.

  7. i don't think this has anything to do with keeping them out of the back stage, if thats all it is than great but it appears to be more than that i gues we will see.

  8. PoppyNick says:

Dana is a fucking greedy puke….he forgets he was one of those fucking managers at one time over Chuck and Tito. His greed my ruin the UFC one day.

  9. I thought Fedor wasn't in UFC because dana white doesn't like him…oh well whatever
