According to Sherdog, Antonio “Big Foot” Silva (10-1) will face Sergei Kharitonov (15-3) for the EliteXC heavyweight title at “EliteXC Unfinished Business” on July 26 from the Stockton Arena in Stockton, CA

The Russian Top Team fighter Kharitonov, is coming off an impressive win over Alistair Overeem last year at K-1 Hero’s Tournament Final (Video Below). Kharitonov has fought tough fighters like UFC heavyweight contender Fabricio Werdum, Pedro Rizzo, Alistair Overeem, Semmy Schilt and Michael Russow.

Sergei Kharitonov could be the one.

Brazilian behemoth Antonio Silva has verbally agreed to face the stoic Russian boxer for the vacant heavyweight crown at EliteXC’s July 26 “Saturday Night Fights” at the Stockton Arena in Stockton, Calif.

The bout is currently pending approval from the California State Athletic Commission, according to a rep from Silva’s American Top Team.

  1. Silva gots this

  2. sergei is no joke, he used to train with fedor and may still, if silva does beat him he is legit for sure. i think its going to be a tuff fight for both of them.

  3. After Silvas last fight I'm not so sure about him yet. That Sergei guy seems like he is the real thing. I'm glad they found a good HW contender.

  4. Kharitonov has an iron chin. Wonder what his ground game is like?

  5. Kharitonov has a weak groung game. Silva can control this fight via takedowns. I see him controling Sergei but Sergei has like realwun pointed out an iron chin. Antonio is just really big but I question his finishing skills. And Sergei has good punching power so it should be interesting.

  6. Kharitonov is brutal…. Check out his win over Semmy Shilt from the mount and his KO wins over Ninja Rua & Rizzo!!

  7. BAM BAM says:

Kharitonov has a sick ground game, he fought noguiera in pride, the whole match was on the ground and noguiera couldn't submit him, and kharitonov had a few chances to submit noguiera, he's a freak on the ground but he prefers the stand up game more, I will call this match a 2nd round win for Kharitonov via arm bar.

  8. to bad its not happening

Sergei Kharitonov will not be facing Antonio Silva on July 26 as had been previously been reported by Sherdog.com.

A source close to the situation has informed Fightline.com that the fight will not happen but that EliteXC did have conversations with Kharitonov and is interested in exploring a relationship with the popular fighter with the possibility having him participate in future events.

The source also claimed exclusively to Fightline.com that Silva already has an opponent lined up for July 26 and that an announcement is forthcoming.

  9. didi yall hear UFC 89 micheal vs chris will headline the show and well i am so happy for this fight and cant wait a min for it…

this is going to be a big test for them both.. chris can take a better punch and has better punching power and is a better wresler.. but Mike is faster and is better with the JJ and kicks.. in all its a great fight and well i cant wait to see it

  10. that should be a good one tom, i think bisping is the better striker but leben can take a punch and has power so he may take a beating for awhlie but will be able to end it at any time if he lands.

  11. first of all sucks if kharitonov isnt fighting after all of you pumped him up so much. i was starting to look foward to that. but leben vs. bisping? that sounds pretty good. i think bisping will take that one because he's not going to be in close enough to get lebens automatic counter punch.
